stJNES8: Of Empires

ahh you did... :/ but you didn't do my expansion to the north-east inwhich I asked on the first turn. You dont have to re-make the map again, but if you can approve the below one, that would be great. If not, its alright.

Spain.png

Spain's Current Orders
-Begin Wonder: Great Market of Madrid (+4 Economy).
-Increase army of Archers, two economies.
-Invade the Aragonese. Begin at night, when most are sleeping, raid them with our Chariots, use backups of 100 Spearmen infront of 50 Archers on a nearby hill (I know for a fact there are many hills up there) to back up the Chariots should thier Spearmen attack. Keep Chariots on the offensive when at night, though quickly retreat when thier Spearmen charge and them move in slowly with our Spearmen, backed up by Archers who kill them as they charge.

Do this for several nights until most of thier border villages are pillaged. Loot thier cities and gain as much economy as possible from them.

I know they will retaliate, which is why instead of keeping the cities, we burned them and looted them, keeping the citizens as slaves. Then we retreat to our land which has a bonus on defense.

When we see thier offensive is worn, we will strike again the same way, but instead with twice as much force last time.

Continue the cycle, until all troops and all military is called for which we will invade thier biggest city. Keep Spearmen flanks in front, Chariots in two flanks on both sides ready to attack thier weak flanks, and then the Archers as far way from the heat of battle though still in range to attack thier army.

Thats it. :)

Pheonicia
The First Galleys were build, the first Ships that the Pheonicians ever had. 10 medium ships that could move across the coast. Many knew this ships will widly help the Pheonicians to establish trades and far away towns.
But te ships were not all good... They could reach veryfar and were slow and undeveloped. The King decleared that somthing must be done! He called the Wise-Men to work hard on better ships. He even commited much money on a new better navy! The country Treasury was given to the wise-men to work on better faster ships that could go further. Maybe better galleys.

In Byblos the city rose to life. Immigrans from the far east continued to move across Phenicia usualy trought Byblos that was the most inland city. Many of the coming people were amazed by the Pheonician much advanced culture befor continuing southward. And they had what to be in awe of...

OOC All religious stuff made by me and nt real :) Nothing is real :p

When coming into Byblos the first thing you could sea was a huge building (for that time it was huge...) in honor of the Earth godess. The Mother of the living and plants. She was also the mother of lives on land. She was called Ullah.
Reaching the more western parts of Byblos you could see a small tower heading towards the great city Tyre. This was the Alter the the patron god of the Pheonicians. It was a law that atleast the 2 main gods will be woshiped and he was the most Important.
Agidor the name of the god was. Father and createre of the World and Universe. Father of all Living creatures. He was he god of the sea. And the sea was the most important thing to the Pheonicians.

The legends say that after Agidor created the world for his love Ullah she accepted him and went to live with him in their new home. In those time the world was all water and in their underwater home called Iydon (spelled Ay-Don) they saw the birth of the first world goddess. She was called Narika Goddes of beauty.
But not all was good in the world of those times. Agidor was not the most loving husband. One day he saw Tueleh Goddes of the sky bathing in his world and fell in love with her. He spent with her years when their baby was born. Turr god of war. In that time Agidor continued to see his own wife. But one day he hurried to meet Tueleh but is wife wanted to be with him. She tried to hold him but he pushed her and cursed her that they will never meet again. Ullah was ferius with Agidor, She took their doughter Iydon and cursed the sea to always be eaten by the land. That was the first time that land were in the World. They came out fast and Agidor Did not knew how to stop it! He called his new love Tueleh to aid him against this curse and she created storms of water. This was the first rain. When the rain reached Iydon Body is got to her eyes and light came out. Iydon gave birth to her twin son and doughter, Tikor god of thunder and Dravina goddes of lightingbults.
The joined work of Agidor and Tueleh stopped the land just in time. the water falling from the sky and the birth of Iydon children brought Ullah to understand both water and land are needed so she stopped with her curse and went under the lands to forever stay away from the world. Iydon gave her mother a bless that as long as the world is alive she will be alive and the opposite.
Not long after this Iydon saw Turr for the first time. Turr was already a grown-up and he was a beautifull god.

Here the first legends that are writen in the Agidor Altar of byblos end. The next chapter is found in Sidon. And there will be our next vist of the Pheoncian culture.

Nope!

The Songhai nation was growing at a miraculous pace. The recently established city of Gao, while not nearly so large or beautiful as Timbuktu, was quickly becoming an important port on the Niger, and attracting local nomads to the area with its culture. The economy was booming, having increased by fully itself again since the founding of the new city. The canals brought a sense of stability and security to the land, as the people could now count on having enough food to eat and enough water to drink. The remodeling of Timbuktu had made it the most beautiful city in the region, and people from the countryside traveled many miles to admire its graceful white buildings and its glittering golden statues.

As agriculture developed outside of the cities, the cities themselves slowly switched over to a merchant economy. Timuktu was no longer reknowned for its fertile fields (though it still had many), but rather for the markets in which the products from the farms in the country were sold. The artisan class continued to grow, and along with it the sophistication of Songhai art.

But ignorance still plagued the people. King Sonni Ali was shocked when one day, while touring the countryside, he observed the ignorance of the people. One of the small tributary canals that fed a farmer's field had collapsed, and the King watched as the man toiled to fix it. As he had no knowledge of engineering or building, the man could not make the earth stay out of the canal. As he worked to fix the damage, he only caused more and more of the canal to break down. Faced with the possibility that his crops could wither and die, the man fell to his knees and wept.

The King was touched by this event, and decided that he needed to bestow upon his people the gift of learning, so that even the commoners would know enough to be able to carry out routine maintenance on their canals. But even more than that, he was determined that his people would become wise, and that men of great intelligence would come to his court at Timbuktu and set down in writing great thoughts for all of history.

To accomplish these goals, Sonni Ali established the first school in the Songhai Kingdom, "The University." Here, wise people from all over the Songhai lands could come and increase their knowledge of the world. The school would have classes on engineering, geography, philosophy, music theory, art, economics, and theology. These scholars, thus educated the University, would then remain in Timbuktu and create great works of literature, art, music, and architecture, or else return to the countryside and procede to teach their knowledge to the Songhai youth.

The King also decreed that every large village in the nation have a school, at which the youth of the surrounding towns could come and learn about agriculture, metalworking, writing, mathematics, economics, and theology. These schools would provide future generations of Songhai men with the knowledge needed to create a thriving society.

Orders:
-Expand west along the Niger with 200 men, and east along the Niger with 200 men.
-Establish the cities of Mopti and Gaya on the Niger River (RL locations -- if I don't expand far enough to settle Gaya, don't worry about it.)
-Invest 2c on Education to found the University in Timbuktu, and to found schools in the major towns of each region.

To Banuba:
We suggest an Alliance between our to poeple so we can fight the enemies in the north.

Orders tommorow, no time.

Sweden, empire of the Vikings. Circa 2800bce. A annal of history by Rangar the writer.

By this time the southern portion of Sweden was under the firm control of the Vikiing tribe. From back in the myths of history when the Vikings first arose under Leif the Clever and he uniting them with the Sabine tribe, to the violent wars of Olaf the Cunning and now to regin of Erik the Stweard. Unlike his ancestors in the line of Viking Kings, Erik was the first that concerated on dosemitic matters and was given the title of Stweard. Erik was not the most violent King who wore the Crown of Thor but he was the most sensitive to the needs of his people. Swedens first only town was reaching a popluation of nearly 5 000 souls and the ancient city was beginnig to break due to the strain of so many. In the prevoius century, Olaf the second of the Great Vikings had expanded their rule over most the fertile land of Sweden but due to his spending most of the taxes on the army the fertile land lay undeveloped, this was one the biggest barriers facing Erik as he sought to expand the Viking Empire of Sweden.

It had been a sunny day when Erik had reached the new land under Viking rule. For as far as the eye could see, rivers flowing undamned or tapped, endless rolling feilds perfect for growing crops and supporting many souls and Viking people. All he need was people and money to get his dream off the ground.

On the jounery home, Erik made his descion, he wanted to live up to the title of Stweard and reward his people all the years of work be giving them the chance to have free land to farm in the new lands of Sweden, the Vikings had conquered.

He had reached the town of Stockholm captial of Sweden some days later when remembering his desicion on the road home, he called in the Chancellor in charge of farming and development to his chambers. All prevoius annals argee that the King and the advisor spent many hours in seroius talks, many farmers were called in to give advice to the King on how best to implent his dream of settling Swedens new land. On the next day the King emerged from his chambers and had the heralds call all the townspeople to the town square where all the festivals where held.

A copy of his speech has been kept and passed down first orally then in written form.

" Hail to you my Viking brothers. I believe that it is our god given right, mission and duty to spread our culture, gods and goverment throught the great land we live in, SWEDEN. As you know more and more land has come into our possesion. All beatuiful land and land that is empty! This land could support four Stockholms and many more people. The North, East and West of us lay many tribes, still primitive and uncultured and uneducated, it is our mission to bring these people the joy of Viking life and rule. I now come to main point of calling you here togother, the farms outside the city can only support a certain amount of people and Stockholm contiunes to grow and grow, as it should! But remember how I spoke of the empty land to the West? I am now offering to give the land to any man with a family for no cost, and the my goverment shall give you your tools and seeds, what is there to say no to my people? Will you take and conquer this untamed land? Will you do it for me, your King.

Spurred on by this address many people packed their possesions into small carts and left the only life they knew. THe people leaving to settle the new lands now known as the Outerlands left in the Spring as the snow began to melt, they reached the Outerlands about three weeks later and found the prisitne land just as the King had said it would be. Being the industroius Swedes they were they set to work clearing the forrests and using the wood to build log cabins and granries. They planted the first crop that late spring and harvested it in the summer.

Erik visited the Outerlands that harvestime. He declared the bountiful harvest a blessing of the gods. He declared that day would henceforth be known as the Festival of Sif who since then was known as the god of the harvest or the god of farmers etc.

Erik loved the Outerlands so much and the new farms, that he ordered a new town be built there to commerate the acheivemets that occured there.

The towns name? Bondgårdarstad.(modern city of Goteburg) Meaing city of the farms, With the excess food from all the farms the popluation would grow and more non farmers could be supported as well as more soldiers. As an advantge, the new city was on the sea and Eric hoped some day a harbour would be built be it was not to be as he died only a few years after seeing his city built. He according to his wishes was buried on a hill overlooking his city.

Orders:
Use an economy to pay for the new city and farms in the story
Use an economy to build marketplaces in Stockholm to sell the new produce form the farms as well constructing a cartpath connecting the two citys.
USe the army to take control of any unoccupied land North along the Batlic coast then go inland. Use our superior tactics and equipement crush any enemies.
If we encounter any settled tribes, send emissaries to them bring them to Bondgårdarstad and Stockholm, dazzle them with the wonders of our cities then ask if they want to join the empire. If not conquere there tribr.

Rome

stJNES_8_Italy_flavor_map_2.jpg

Expansion was going well, the new city of Napolis in the south was doin well as a local sub capital, and cities Roman cities and town were startign to dot the region, though more importantlly, previouslly unallied city states were joining Rome.

more over, two new peoples, the Carthaginians, and the macedonians had been found out about, an dwere looked upon by Rome as welcomed guests when envoys, deligates arrived, and were treated warmlly- but no too warmlly, after all, these were new peoples- similer to the citizens in southern Italy- born well tanned (Roman citizens were usually born pale, but time in the sun would bronze them up, or, alternatlley, give them a bad sun burn, eventually leading to what the Roman call "sun block", with an SPF factor of 1, to help allieveiate the occursed "sun-burn")

but all this was admisndt mix news- the Etruscans were were welcomed into the Roman league and state, and many had indeed come, such as mantua and Felsinii in the far north, and Tarquini in the south- but the other Etruscan states, while now peaceful, for the msot part at least, with Rome remained indipendent, not yet convinced of what glories coudl be achived, or rather, as Prince Aeneas thought, because they were afriaid they would loose thier royal beinifits as the princes and kings of thier lands...

it was thus that the prince concived of an idea- all the royals and nobility of each city would get to retian their effective postitions, while being under the rule of Rome, to help entice it, they would all also form a council to advise the High King at Rome, and even make common law in Roman lands, and perhaps even have limited right of veto over the king of Rome proper, as thier was always an unfortunate rule of some semi insane of perverse king that afflicted every ones lands at least once...

Rome would be entiering a time of reform, so as to unfiy the remaindr of italy- once again would diplomats and envoys set out to the many cities of Itallia, to show the cities what could be done under rule of Rome, and to show them that they could have thier cake and eat it to, all while being part of somthing even greater then they could be as part of thier lone city states...

Though elsewhere, in Roman territory, a great road, the Via Appia had been built to Neapolis, and had inspired the people to build thier own, unofficial roads to Rome as well, roads that would indeed aid Rome infrasturucture by being able to have goods travel between cites far faster and far easyer then ever before, but the REAL achvenemts out side the Road works was the megalithic temple of Jupiter coming up in Rome itself, a huge temple, dedicated to the greatest of the Gods was being erected, of pure marble, making use of architectual wonders such as the three types of columns, and the magnificent dome and archways developed by roman architects, it was to be a master piece, somthing to inspire awe and glory in the Roman populace, and to inspire national Pride for all Romans, and who hailed themselves as Romans, a place for weddings, and preperartion for war, it was ot be a magnicent sight once completed
Orders
1)reform government to Oligarchy

2)again send out diplomats t the etruscans and unallied cities of Itallia, and show thier rulers the benifits of being abke to retian thier technical positions in their own cities, while being a part of mighty Rome as well

3)build some ships

4)use ships to establish colony of Syracuse on Sicilly

5)if possible, (IE, my econ isnt taken up by prvious activites) spend it on incresing the infrasturcute of Rome, by making officalthe road ways of Rome and thus incresing trade and what nit(not needed ot be shown on the map)

6)in additon to allpreivous orders, continue expansion

EDIT-
7)cant belive I forgot not to continue great wonder, so since I did it before the update haend, please continue it ;)

*note, if Saturnia joines Rome, please make it a major City like Neapolis is in Italy

Amirsan, no one expanded on the first update.

To Bantu
From Banuba

We will consider it.

Edit: Constantine, I enjoy the Viking stories - dont get many of them here at cfc.

EDIT2: TO ALL:

In the past I have been saying dams. This is incorrect. Why I was saying dams I have no idea. What I was referring to were reseviors, where some water is taken from a river via a small canal and then the water would fill up an artificial lake. I sorry for the confusion.

One last thing: I do plan on updating tomorrow at the same time I updated this morning (maybe even tonight if I get the orders in), so get your orders in. Remember, I want to do as many as I can before school hits.

I haven't got enough time for a story, but I will try to get one sometime...:(

Orders:

1) Send 250 spearmen to try an clear a way through the Numidians. Be fair, and allow any tribes which surrender to Carthage to live with minimal casualties. Make this march as "stealthy" as can be mustered in this day and age, as well.

2) The remaining spearmen are to garrison themselves as defenses for Carthaginian territory.

3) Increase the army with whatever soldiers can be mustered.

OOC:
"I have updated the industry section on the front page – turns out there is bronze-age industry J. "

Jason unless I have lost it, there are no changes to that section on the front page.

OOC: Remember that I have (2/1), not (1/1), as you told me over AIM. :D
Anyways, IC:
German orders:
*SECRET*Continue wonder. (2/8)
Invest an economy into increasing the defense rating by building forts against the Teutonic Order.
Put 100 Militia Spearmen on the border w/ Teutonic, to defend against any possible attacks.

The Book of Kadi
Chapter I: Creation

In the beginning there was darkness. Then there was an explosion of light, a tapestry of brilliant color that cut though the darkness with wicked intensity. A light so bright that it filled the empty void with every color on the spectrum. From this all was created. The light dimmed and began to subside. The light concentrated its great power into orbs to protect all that it had created.

The light created the gods to protect over its children. In the world of the orb called Daja four gods took form. The first was Azuzi, god of conflict. Second was Zachni, the god of leisure and joy. The third was Gandua was the god of light and order. Finally Indeanua the god of nature.

Each god embodied a trait from his or her own world. When the gods of Daja first stepped on the dark rich soil of the world they saw the animals living in peace.

It wasn’t long until an Elephant, Rino, and Hippo approached Gandua and said
“Great god Gandua, We would want to be big so we can take the best grass for our selves. We are tired of being beaten off by the others.”
Gandua replied, “I will grant you your wish if you obey one rule. You must maintain law and order among the other animals.” They agreed.

The next day Lion, Cheetah, and Jaguar came to Azuzi in anger. “The Elephants kicked my kind out of our valley and left us to die,” exclaimed the Lion.
“The same happened to us,” shouted the Cheetah, “only it was the Hippos that committed the crime.”
The Jaguar agreed, “Rhinos did the same to us.”
Azuzi sat in silence for a few seconds and said, “I can help you. You won’t need to eat the grass any longer, nor be bullied around by any other animals. There is a price to pay, you will have to kill to get your meals.” The three animals though it was a good deal and quickly agreed to Azuzi’s solution.

Soon the Zebra, Gazelle, and Buffalo appealed to Indeanua. “Help! The Lions, Cheetahs, and Jaguars are eating us at their will. We have no way to defend ourselves when they come,’ they said in unison.
Indeanua replied, “I will give you speed so you may escape the creatures the pray upon you. Your legs will carry you to safety.”

Humans, who so far had asked none of the gods for a thing, approached Azuzi. “Us Humans have nothing to defend ourselves with. How can we compete with the elephant’s size, or the lion’s power? How is it possible for us to catch up with the swift Gazelle on the plain? We are left with nothing.” Explained the Human.
Azuzi answered, “I shall give you the wisdom to craft weapons and tools to protect yourself and to defend against predators. Now go and teach your people what I have taught you.”
The Man Nodded and walked away.

Again the man came to a god, this time Gandeanua. He exclaimed, “How are we to sleep at night with out safety of the light? How are we to find our way home with out the glorious shine from Daja?”
Gandeanua replied, “If the dark nights are what frighten you then I shall teach you how to make the light shine forever. I shall teach you how to create flames to guide your people home at night and to warm you when the darkness envelops you.”

A third time the man appealed to a god, “Zachni, we work all the time. How can we relax with all the work that needs to be done?”
Zachni began to laugh and said, “You creatures crack me up. All you do is work and work, never looking for the easy way out. I like you, and because of that I will give you incredible intelligence. Now you will have time to spare to do what ever you want.”

The man left and returned to his people. From there on Mankind has always had an edge on the animals.
