WORLD NEWS UPDATE 2 - SEPTEMBER 1900
GDANSK DIVIDED
After a showdown, frantic negotiations yielded a compromise between the Swedes and the Poles, forestalling a total war.
The city would be divided between Poland and Sweden into West and East Gdansk, respectively, with a wall built to prevent vigilante attacks between the two sides.
As the wall began to be built, however, chaos ensued on both sides in the form of extreme political repression.
In West Gdansk, the Polish Army convinced the Polish Patriot Union components in command of the West Gdansk Army to join the Polish Imperial Army and to end the Communist dictatorship that formed just a few months earlier. The Polish Army, augmented by the PPU-controlled West Gdansk troops, stormed the offices and assembly halls of the Revolutionary Worker's Council to destroy the leftist government and, with it, any hopes Communists all over Poland may have of ever taking over. The Councillors were interrogated and then slaughtered on the spot. The interrogations were mainly carried out to find out the whereabouts of Rosa Luxemburg, the leader of the Gdansk Communist Party, and her inner circle since they were not present during the raid. Throughout the rest of West Gdansk, the proletarian districts were searched and brutal repression and terror began. 200 more Communists or ex-members were found out and also killed in the day-and-night raids on the homes of the citizens of West Gdansk. The PPU itself was then purged and cleansed of the "undesirables" (ie, democrats and socialists).
In East Gdansk, the Swedish troops also initiated their own repression and rooted out many socialists (some social-democratic and some communist) and killed them. The majority of the Swedish Nationalist Party itself, which secured East Gdansk for the Swedish Emperor, was also massacred. Other smaller parties were also purged and the proletarian districts of East Gdansk continue to endure occupation by the Swedish troops while the repression in the bourgeois areas of the city have for the most part returned to their normal lives.
The whereabouts of Luxemburg and her inner circle - several important socialists of Polish, Swedish, and Jewish descent - remain unknown. Several rumors begin to circulate - one that they managed to sneak onto a ship and have left for East Prussia; another that they boarded the last train out of West Gdansk directly into Poland itself. Both the Swedish and Polish authorities begin preparing a search in their own countries.
In Sweden, a Bill of Rights has been introduced outlining several key freedoms:
1. No Citizen of Sweden can be detained without a reason, and on a whim of a ruler or government official.
2. All inhabitants of Sweden has the right of speech, and press. They cannot be arrested for defying or saying things against the Central Government.
3. All citizens are entitled to a jury trial.
4. No house, business center and etc may be searched and raided by the police without a warrant issued.
5. These rights can only be canceled in a state of emergency in a specific area.
That, and the establishment of a free press (which has until now been state-controlled) seem to be clear signs of reform and possible democratization in Sweden, and people have taken to the streets to demonstrate not only in favor of the Emperor's reforms but also to encourage further reforms, including an elected parliament.
Norway occupied
Norway, abandoned by her "ally" Britain, has been completely occupied by the Swedish armies which overpowered the scant Norwegian Army. The Norwegian King did manage to flee on a small ferry right out of Bergen. The port administrators refused to surrender the knowledge and whereabouts of the King and his destinations, burning or throwing into water the documents that had the ferry's registration and destination. Meanwhile, resistance forms against the Swedish occupation throughout the country. The hubs of the so-called "Norwegian Freedom Army" have not been discovered yet. The first evidence of the resistance's existence are several sniper-shootings against occupying troops and some Swedish settlers from the Oslo rooftops and scattered guerilla fights throughout the mountains and the countryside.
Jutland is occupied and annexed by Denmark. The Danes face some resistance since there are about 900 troops in Jutland, but, though they get their own casualties, the Danish troops destroy the Norwegians.
Norway - 600,000; Sweden - 6,000 troops; Denmark - 1,000
Unions occur in Southern Asia
In southern Asia, two unions occur - the first being the union of Afghanistan and Persia into the Dual Empire of Persia-Afghanistan and the second being the union of India and Siam.
The Dual Empire of Persia-Afghanistan grants autonomous privileges to the Persian and Afghani Kingdoms, respectively, within the Dual Empire. Culturally and socially, the two will remain extensively separate, but in terms of military and foreign affairs, Persia and Afghanistan will act as one entity.
Some troops in each Army, however, opposed the fusion of the armed forces and thus resigned from their posts in protest. The union also elicited strongly negative reaction among Pakistanis who, longing for more autonomy of their own, believe that they were overlooked and ignored by not only the Afghan government but also the Persian diplomats arranging the unification.
To the east, India and Siam also joined together into a federation, with more central power being wielded from Delhi. As in Afghanistan and Persia, diplomacy and military actions will be handled by the central government, but the Siamese King must be consulted on political and military decisions. Vietnamese nationalists have begun protesting the Siamese domination of their country and have sent their own emissaries to Delhi to convince the Emperor to get the Siamese King to withdraw from Vietnam.
In both cases, however, other than the mentioned minority issues, the unions generated increased pride in the nations' power.

The Bosnian Army occupies Byzantium and imprisons the leaders of the City Council, ending the Byzantine proto-insurrection.
French Socialist Republic established
The French Socialist Republic is formally established by the National Revolutionary Council Congress as a Communist Dictatorship. The first action of the Congress is selling the Cuba-Caribbean Colony to Italy for 2 economies. However, the economies never made it to the government as a counterrevolutionary group supposedly attacked the couriers carrying the payment and stole the money.
Caribbean War begins
Before Italian ships make it to the Caribbean, the Iroquois Armies and Navy overrun the Colony, completely occupying and slaughtering the 200,000-strong Colonial Army. Italian ships and troops, seeing that the attack streamed out of Miami, turned away from Cuba - which was already lost - and attacked Miami instead, occupying the capital. The Emperor fled but the city is occupied by Italian troops. A telegraph was sent through the Emperor's private line from Sender "Italian General Giovanni Mussolini" saying, "Hate to say I told ya so", to the secondary headquarters in northern Florida. Seminole resistance is pretty stiff against the Italian occupation.
A huge wave of Italian troops, however, has not missed the Caribbeans, as 2 million troops have crowded into the Caribbean Islands and have retaken the Islands from the Iroquois.
Meanwhile, near Bermuda, other Italian and Iroquois fleets engaged in battle near Bermuda and the Italian ships managed to overpower the Iroquois ships that were sent to take the island. Italy has asserted control of Bermuda and thus has a small outpost from which to launch a direct assault on Iroquois coasts.
Italy - 200,000 Cuba-Caribbean Colonial troops, 3,000 troops, 100 ships; Iroquois - 600,000 troops, 50 ships; Seminole Empire - 2,000 troops
Ural War continues
In another offensive, the Mongol Artilleries led the troops ahead against the retreating Russian armies and straight into the high Ural Mountains. The mountain terrain, however, proved to be one challenge that the strong Mongol Artillery cannons could not handle and overcome and as the Artilleries were pushed upward, some of them rolled back down, crushing a few Mongol troops and smashed down the sides of the mountains.
The few roads across the mountains were not very adequate for Artillery transport, either, and some more Artilleries rolled forward and slammed into the ground, damaged beyond repair. Those roads were also often sites of scatered but strong surprise ambushes by Russian regimens that were strategically left behind.
Only a few Artillery cannons survived the trek across the Mountains. The Mongolian troops, exhausted by the struggle to keep the Artilleries intact and to get them safely across the mountains. When the Mongols made it past the Urals, the Russian armies hiding there struck relentlessly and took care of many of the advance Mongol armies, prompting those that were lucky enough to be in the back of the invading forces to hastily retreat back toward the mountains to find caves or some Ural Tatar villages to hide in.
The Russian forces on the Ural front have been augmented by 1 million Polish troops who have sworn to protect Europe from the spawn of the barbaric Huns.
Meanwhile, the Russian troops have invaded far into Kazakhstan and have attracted many people to assisting them with promise of freedoms not known under the Kazakh Emperor.
Chinese troops have invaded the Altay provinces of Mongolia to liberate the Altay peoples from years of Mongol tyranny, with significant success as the locals have never been extremely supportive of Mongolia in the first place.
Russia - 200,000 troops; Mongolia - 15 Artilleries, 700,000 troops; Kazakhstan - 5 Artilleries, 600,000 troops

South German troops attack along the Prusso-Bohemian border!
The South German troops, thinking that Prussia seeks to annex Bohemia, have attacked along Bohemia's Prussian border, but find no Prussian troops there at all and instead accidentally kill a few local villagers, eliciting cries of outrage among the Bohemians.
The South German generals have tried to explain that it was just a mistake and that the intention was to prevent the Prussians from occupying their country, but the Bohemians have refused. The Parliament has declared that the South German Kaiser no longer has the Bohemian Crown and that a new monarch will be chosen from among the Bohemian nobility.
The South German Generals leading the troops that caused the controversy have stepped down from their posts and have apologized to their Kaiser for being so overzealous in the mission to stop the Prussians.
During this sporadic attack along the Prusso-Bohemian border, the South Germans have also destroyed a few Prussian Artilleries.

1. When someone marks orders as secret on the thread, they are secret. Sheep2, I am addressing this to you because in your orders there was mention of stalin's orders which were marked secret on the thread. And in case you're wondering, the mix-up w/ your troops attackign the Bohemians instead of Prussians was a) something that stalin did in secret orders and b) something to mildly punish you for disregarding the "secret" tag that was on stalin's orders on the thread. This is not me being biased against you at all. There was something in stalin's orders (the ones on the thread were decoy).
2. Which brings me to point 2: I've viewed a few other NESs while I was updating and in few or none did I see people doing orders on the thread and have done something completely else in the update. So from now on, no more decoy orders - only ONE set of orders will be permitted.
I probably shouldn't have allowed this in the first place and should have said it in rules when I started it, but I wasn't thinking of it, I guess, so I apologize for my lapse of judgmet.
And Sheep, you were only midly punished because while those WERE simply false orders, they were marked secret nonetheless.
3. If you're late with orders, next time, just wait till after update - the nation will be NPC for that one turn and it will do what it will do. Do not IM me the orders because if I happen to forget and close the AIM box, then you're screwed, and I will NOT take responsibility for it. When you've had that much time to do orders, you should have taken advantage of that time. If I post "update in 15 minutes. last call for orders" and you post them within 15 minutes of that post, then I will still take those orders.
