StKNES4: Battle Scars

Yay! This is not dead!

I'm going to start update tonight, I just gotta look back to see where we left off.

Don't forget that Free Trade Agreement I made with dozens of other nations. That should have a bit of an impact.

IN THE NEWS: JANUARY-JUNE 1914

Toronto Times - January 7th
At a grand conference of representatives of just over 20 nations, ranging from fascist, to royal, to republican, to communist, in our grand capital, the Canadian Prime Minister has hosted the inauguation of the worldwide, nonpartisan, International Free Trade Agreement (IFTA). There has been some animosity between several communist and several fascist delegates, and a fistfight nearly broke out between the Mauritanian and Spanish representatives after the former insulted the Spanish Nation "for being one of the lowest of the Communist scum" as a French ally.
Nevertheless, the IFTA treaty was signed, despite the apprehensions. It is not yet clear whether this will boost all the participants' economies, but it is obvious that the effects would not be immediate.
Optimism is in the air on this day in Canada.

Warsaw Reporter - January 8th
As the Canadians celebrate the IFTA ratification across the ocean, we find ourselves in dire straits. The civil war has increased in bloodshed. Bankers and aristocrats have been flooding into central Poland since the first outbreak of the Communist uprisings. According to accounts from recently-arrived refugees, the Archbishops of the Catholic Church in both Poznan and Wroclaw have been hung by the rebels for "collaborating with the counter-revolution". Meanwhile, local police forces in this city, as well as the rest of Free Poland, have occupied and instated martial law and curfew in worker districts and have placed many farmers in the countryside under close watch for insurrectionist activity.
On the front, the Government forces, supported by the Fascists, have been able to liberate part of Silesia. Unfortunately, as our army marched into rebel areas in the south, the Communists managed to occupy Gdansk. Civilians have been caught in the crossfire at the hands of both sides, unfortunately. The bastard rebels massacred entire villages, however. On the other hand, our brave men only killed those they had to - collaborationists.

New York Times - January 13th
The Bohemians and Slovaks have declared independence from Poland and proclaimed themselves as independent republics! In Bohemia, an election has already been called within 2 weeks, and the parties that existed prior to the Polish invasion have already set up campaigns, proving that Bohemia is able to maintain an active and stable political life.
In Slovakia, however, it is a different story. With no real Slovak political party prior to the Civil War, there are only a precious few who can organize a provisional government and elections, most of them aristocrats, whom the Slovak peasants have come to detest. Though the few Slovak bourgeois and aristocratic politicians have managed to form a Provisional Government and slated elections for February, our analysts are pessimistic about success of democracy in a land where the institutions of democracy were based entirely on that of the larger state it was part of (ie, Poland) and minimally autonomous, generating pessimism that the Slovak Republic will be incorporated into one of its neighbors or simply fall apart.

New York Times - February 5th
The elections in Bohemia went off without a hitch. The liberal parties managed to pull together the majority of votes and control the Bohemian Parliament. The new prime minister spoke to an audience in Prague's Independence Square about pulling the country back into power in the troubled region and ensuring safety from either communism or fascism.
In the Slovak Republic, however, chaos has broken out. 15 different parties jockeyed for power in the Parliament, and, obviously, not one of them has been able to gain the prescribed 2/3 majority in the Parliament. Parties with similar goals have formed blocs but even those are not enough to gain majority. The President of the Republic, who was chosen by the Provisional Government to continue for the first term, was assassinated by a Hungarian nationalist. In Bratislava, street fighting has broken out among the people, who are outraged at the assassination, or are angered by the lack of cohesion in the government, or are simply angered by the elections themselves for being so insecure. In parts of the countryside and smaller towns, farmers have burned down mansions of aristocrats and declared revolutionary councils. In other parts, the aristocrats have re-asserted control and have reverted to local mini-monarchies. In southern Slovakia, the Hungarian nationalists on the other hand, have formed their own Senate and declared intention to unite with Austria-Hungary.
While Bohemia has once again re-asserted control over its own independence, Slovakia's fate remains up for grabs, but Poland remains distracted by the Communist uprising in its western provinces, so a reversion into the Polish realms is highly doubtful. Our analysts now say that it is likely that Slovakia will be annexed by either Austria-Hungary or Bohemia, or partitioned by both.

Jerusalem Times - February 11th
Abyssinia has attacked the Persians! The vast majority of the Persian Navy (they had some ships in the Caspian Sea) has been crippled and destroyed. The ports have been bombed out by the Abyssinians!

Jerusalem Times - February 13th
After the success of the sudden attack on Persia, the Abyssinian Command has issued the following:
Abyssinian Declaration
War has been declared on the evil Persian regime. We have thrown our entire arsenal at them in an attempt to topple this oppressive regime which seeks to control the entire Middle East through sneaky vassalships and denies the true autonomy that it promised!
They mightve been able to trick most of the world, but Abyssinia will not stand for this. We call for those under the yoke of Persian imperialism to join us in taking down Persia! Do this and you wont have any master to call to other than your own, and no debts to be owed to anyone.
We also ask the other members of the Islamic alliance to join us.
Persia struck the hammer down on Arabia for an illegal invasion, but Persia has done the same. They just disguised it better.
The Governments of Oman, Arabia, Iraq, and Egypt have all declared sympathy with Abyssinia and attacks have begun on Persian troops stationed all over the Middle East!

Jerusalem Times - March 2nd
Our Turkish Government has declared war on Persia and has entered Iraq to force the Persian troops there out!
Kuwaiti nationalists, meanwhile, have staged a coup and overthrown the Persian-controlled Parliament, creating their own National Assembly, declaring the FULL independence of Kuwait.
In Abyssinia, support for the government has increased after these 2 brilliant campaigns.

Vienna Times - March 20th
The German Republican government has entered the country. Its ministers have been offered places within the Austro-Hungarian government.

Korean People's News - March 21st
The Korean Democratic Republic is no more! Internal economic stagnation frustrated the people, who had been rioting for several weeks for the government to negotiate with the Chinese. The failure of capitalism in our country has brought the glorious Revolution, supported by the efforts of the Chinese. The Revolutionary Republic has been proclaimed, and it will last for ever with the Chinese troops that are securing our government! LONG LIVE THE REVOLUTIONARY REPUBLIC!

Chicago Tribune - March 25th
An earthquake has devastated the California areas and parts of the FRCA. It is the biggest earthquake ever in the region, where small ground shifts are common but not severe. Death toll has not yet been estimated, but is expected to be high as more than half of Los Angeles has been leveled.

Chicago Tribune - March 30th
Death Toll in California Earthquake: 1,000 dead; 235 missing. The region has been a major tourist spot until the quake hit. Now, its demise may hurt the USNA economy, and devastate the economy of the FRCA.

Warsaw Reporter - April 14th
Our troops have managed to liberate Gliwice and Wroclaw from the Communists! On the northern front, Gdansk remains in Communist hands, but the Government forces managed to surround the city. The Imperial Navy is also bombarding the city from within the harbor itself. The Revolution looks like it's faltering here in our glorious country!

New York Times - April 17th
Austro-Hungarian troops have marched into South Slovakia, occupying the territory in which Hungarian minority resided. The Hungarian delegates in the Slovak Parliament, after supposedly bribing members of the Liberal and Radical coalitions, managed to secure 2/3 vote to ratify the annexation of South Slovakia into Austria-Hungary. Immediately after the vote, the Hungarian parties left the chamber.
The situation in the rest of Slovakia continues to degenerate. Except for the ratification of Austria-Hungary's annexation, the Parliament has absolutely no control of what goes on in the provinces. The militias of the Communists, as well as the Fascists, and the Aristocrats, clash with each other constantly.
The Bohemian Prime Minister has offered to meet with the Speaker of the Slovak Parliament, in hopes of restoring peace to the troubled country.

Lwow Times - May 1st
The Russian and Ukrainian governments have finally settled down to negotiate a peace treaty after the war had drained too much Russian resources. The delegates are weary on both sides, but determined to come to terms. Will the negotiations last?

Toronto Times - May 6th
The IFTA has managed to bring up the economies of most members by a bit. The first trade route within the "free trade zone" has yet to be opened, however, but economists remain optimistic. Canada has experienced the greatest boost. The IFTA has helped FRCA and USNA recover from the devastation of the earthquake, but the FRCA remains financially unstable.

New York Times - May 18th
Our coverage of the Slovak Crisis continues, and perhaps ends. We've received report that the leaders of Bohemia, Slovakia, and Austria-Hungary have met in Prague and negotiated a settlement, in which Austria-Hungary keeps South Slovakia, and Slovakia unites with Bohemia. Slovak nationalists have already reacted, with fuming rage, and at least one of the Deputies who approved of the treaty has been murdered. Bohemian troops are expected to collaborate with the Austro-Hungarian troops in pacifying the unruly provinces.

Miami World News - May 22nd
The Inca Empire has joined the fascist fold. The Prime Minister, not wanting to split the country into civil war, finally surrendered to the Fascists' demands. If not for the IFTA, the country would have gone completely into bankruptcy by now, however, as a recession had been gripping the Inca realm.

Moscow Times - May 25th
In an effort to calm the recent uprisings, the Mongolian Republic has united with Russia completely. The unification may centralize power more and calm the Mongolian areas.

Tashkent Times - June 14th
Negotiations have brough an end to the war. Central Asia has been separated.

New York Times - June 28th
Slovakia has been pacified; the Crisis ends, for now, anyway. Minor ethnic clashes have occurred between Bohemian and Slovak nationalists. The religious divide does not help, either. It remains to be seen whether the Prague Government will allow Slovakia to break away once it is "properly educated" and "politicized".

JosefStalinator - come to check in for Russia
fantasmo - same for Poland
DONE. Now, Notes:

On map, the fact that Germany is back to its old color does not mean the Government won - it just means it's under one control again; the Government fled to Austria-Hungary.
In Middle East, the yellow does not mean JUST Abyssinian troops... it means Abyssinian and allied. (well, in Yemen it's Abyssinian only)
and... stories, people? i was looking back and only saw like one or two stories! what's up?

Toteone, check your PM box. I sent you a PM.

RULE CHANGE: As always, the Trade rule changes again
Anyways, the current system lets you get rich... too fast. Can't have that. within only 3 turns, it would have boosted you up by at least 3 entire levels. Too much. No. Back to old fashioned way.
The nation pays TWO economies to start the trade, and gets ONE economy PER TURN after the trade route has begun.
If you're in a free trade agreement (such as the giant IFTA), you can get economy bonuses once in a while, if other members of the agreement have already strong economies. However, if other members economies drop, yours probably will also.

EVERYONE READ THIS:
RULE NOTIFICATION: DO YOUR STATS IN YOUR ORDERS! I HAD ONE PERSON STILL NOT FOLLOW THAT RULE AND IT PI**ED ME OFF, BECAUSE HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO REPEAT MYSELF! FOR EVERYONE, IF YOU STILL CHOOSE TO IGNORE ME, I WILL SIMPLY DISREGARD WHATEVER YOUR ORDERS ARE. BECAUSE IT IS RIDICULOUS THAT I REPEAT MYSELF OVER AND OVER AND STILL SOMEONE MANAGES TO IGNORE, AND I AM TELLING YOU RIGHT NOW THAT I AM SICK AND TIRED OF HAVING TO REPEAT IT EVERY DAMN TIME ONLY TO HAVE PEOPLE IGNORE ME. IF YOU DON'T LIKE MY RULES, GET OUT RIGHT NOW. DO NOT WASTE MY TIME AND NERVES!

Mongolian rebels threaten the stability of Northern China and Manchuria. Do something about it or we will.

Here is our peace offer. You recognize the new governments of Egypt, Arabia, Kuwait, and Oman aswell as both of you withdrawing from Iraq while we make thier new country official aswell. The Islamic Alliance will be reformed, without the need for a Fundamentalist regime at the head, but more for the advancement of the cause of Islam. What do you say to these terms?

We demand you recognize the communists as head of the Egyptian government. Failure to do so will result in intervention.

With all due respect, this is a Middle Eastern issue; You're in the Far East. Please mind your own business.

We liberated Iraq, as well as Kuwait. It was OUR military action that overthrew the old regime in Arabia and ended that war. It was OUR military action that gave independence back to the Azerbaijanis.
The government of Iraq was supportive of us and grateful for our action, and thus we retain rights to that country. Any treaty that does not restore the pre-war government policies of Iraq (OOC: basically, restore Iraq as a full puppet of Persia) will be rejected by us.

Ahem, sorry, our now-fired typist mustve accidentally added you to the enemy parties...our mistake.

You have no room to make demands. You are alone in this venture, and you can choose whether to cling to Iraq and have your empire destroyed or let us restore Iraq as an independant nation, rather than your puppet, and keep your empire.
