StKNES5: A New Lease on NES

From Dacia
To Byzantium:
We agree to trade, our southern friends.

With the addition of the Scottish coast, it has become necesary to develop quicker means of transportation and communications between the islands. Faolán, inspired by the gods, has created the Trans-Isle Project, which includes two parts: the harbors, and the roads.

The Harbors
A harbor will be constructed in Dublin, Belfast, Stranraer, and Cork, for a total of four harbors. The harbor of Cork will be the smallest, consisting of a small berthing area for fishing vessels and a small local shipwright, no foreign or outer-corkian ships are aloud to dock in the harbor. The harbors of Belfast and Stranraer are nearly identical, both are designed with a fishing berth, a ferrie dock, and a domestic dock for ships from Dublin. The ferries will operate every other day with no charge to its passengers or cargo, all charges will be paid by the clan tribunal. In addition, no foreign ships may dock. The harbor of Dublin will be the largest, with a fishing berth, domestic dock, and a large dock for foreign trade. All foreign trade will flow in through the harbor so that it may be accounted for and distributed throughout the clans. The harbor will also have a Lighthouse constructed on the southern point of the bay to guide ships in on foggy days.

The Roads
To make travel easier, roads will be constructed to connect Belfast to Dublin, and Dublin to Cork. As well, a road will be constructed in Scotland once troops arrive, leading from Stranraer and heading southeast. The roads will be composed of crushed limestone from the quarries of Eire, and will be leveled to prevent mishaps by wagon carts. Where no quarries are available for use, the road will simply be a cleared and leveled dirt path. For now, no charges will be put on traveling the roads in order to increase domestic trade.

Effects of the Inter-Isle Project
Increase in population by 3,000
Increase in economy by 1 level

On the map below:
1 = Cork (village of 600)
2 = Belfast (village of 500)
3 = Stranraer (village of 300)

OOC: I felt really bad for not writing a story  , Im not much of a writer mind you so yeah sorry if its bad or doesnt make sense

Didier Ravalomanana stared at the massive size of the harbor, it had barely begun construction and yet it was still massive, hundreds of markets already lined the boardwalk, Didier’s fascination of his project was interrupted by one of his chiefs, “Master, the workers are complaining of hunger and refuse to work such long hours unless they receive more food, what shall we do?” Didier spat in frustration, “Hang one of them, if they still refuse to work, burn one, they’ll get the picture.” Imagine!workers believing themselves to be equals! No, thought Didier, this project will go without a flaw, and it will serve the Malagasy nation for many centuries to come.

Don't worry, Giio, what I care for is that basically you do something instead of JUST doing orders and not even attempting something creative. Story contributions make it more fun and may get me to sometimes evolve content in someone's story into a more wideranging regional or even eventually global event. Just do your thing.

Meanwhile I have 5 out of 12 orders. Come on people I wanna update tomorrow - don't know if I'll be free on Thursday and I definitely can't do it Friday.

Yeah, the due date was given early. To hell with folks that didn't pay attention to it! :p

I think it would help kam a lot if we could do our own army increase value in our orders each turn. Just multiply your population by .05 :)

Yes, you can only spend 1 econ point into education at the moment. It will change, though, so that you can spend more on it, in the near future.

Yes, .05 is the same as 5%.

Lookin like update will be tonight.

Update 4 - 2100 BCE

Several more nations have formed:
Europe - France and Slovakia
Asia - Tataria and Georgia
Africa - Nubia

As those nations begin their empires, one already-existing nation... well... no longer exists. Tatar tribes have completely overrun Ulan Ude, slaughtering half of its inhabitants, and have destroyed the Mongol Confederacy. However, this hardly means that there is any real solid understanding between the Tatar warlords who have occupied the Mongol areas. In fact, the Tatars have returned to quarreling with each other - tension between the Western Tatars and Eastern Tatars coming to boiling points yet again. On the other hand, the demise of Mongolia and resulting bickering between the Eastern and Western Tatars has contributed to rise of the Khanate of Tataria by Genghis Khan, an Eastern Tatar clan leader. Many Eastern Tatars have pledged allegiance to the Ulan Bataar leader. But will Tataria thrive in the midst of the tension amongst its own bloodbrothers, or will it suffer the same fate as the Mongol Confederacy?

At Aswan, Nubian tribes have coalesced together into a loose confederation, stopping Mameluke expansion along the bountiful Nile dead in its tracks. However, its clear that the Nubians do not want to fight the Mamelukes and have no ill wills towards their northern neighbor. How will the Mamelukes react to the reports of this new nation that is impairing their apparent dream to dominate the entire Nile River, no matter how long or short it may be?

Just a bit north of the city of Yerevan, populated by Armenians but controlled by Babylonians, an Armenian tribe called the Georgians have come to fruition as a more centralized nation, at Tbilisi. The Georgian Emperor, to the dismay of his soldiers but joy of the non-militant subjects has declared his intention to gain peace with the Babylonians, "even if it means surrendering Yerevan forever." It is unknown if his dynasty will last, as Yerevan is considered by Armenians to be their birthplace, and many refer to it as "Armenia Proper".
In related events, riots in Yerevan and the rest of "Armenia Proper" (controlled by Babylononia) have successfully impeded efforts to send more troops and supplies, especially food, to the front, resulting in the halt of the offensive against the Armenians. This may buy Georgia the time to get itself prepared in case the Babylonians reject their overtures for peace.

Portuguese have landed in North Africa, landing on a coast full of Berber tribesmen. The Berbers have not resisted one bit, and seem to have welcomed the strangers.

Beginning of Byzantine reforms have caused neighboring tribes to flock to join the Byzantine Empire. The most ardent of the new subjects seem to be the Macedonians who even named their largest town Leopolis, in honor of Emperor Leo I, who inaugurated the reforms.

Dacian expansionism has split the West Slavs. The Dacian thrust occurred a year before the rise of Slovakia, of the West Slavs who remained north of the "Dacian Divide", and thus the South Slavs have not gained any inspiration to settle down and centralize on their own. This at the same time effectively makes the less-numerous South Slavs more vulnerable to attack by the Slavophobic Dacians, as the Slovaks sure will not know or care enough to actually come to the aid of a bunch of lost waywards.

The first clash between Sydney and Brisbane troops has occurred. Both armies fought savagely, making the barbarians who were near the site of the battle wonder if these two large rivals are any different than they are, other than the fact that they are simply larger and a bit more organized than the ordinary Aborigine barbarian tribe.
SYDNEY: -200 troops
BRISBANE: -150 troops

The Muscovites have done it! After not hearing a reply from Sinimustvalge Karjal about Karjalgrad - regarded as not only a "no" but also as an insult - the Muscovites have decided on another way to bring their "wayward brothers" into their own "honest sheltering arms": force. 500 Muscovite troops crossed the frontier and attacked Karjalgrad, seizing the city despite a fierce resistance by the Karjalians.
SINIMUSTVALGE KARJAL: -150 troops
MUSCOVY: -200 troops

A Benghazi fleet attacked Mamelukes near the Nile Delta. Neither really won the battle. It was a Mutually-Assured-Destructive battle.
BENGHAZI: -15 ships
MAMELUKES: -13 ships

From Georgia
To Babylononia:
We wish to negotiate a peace between your nation and our people. We speak for all Armenians.

From Muscovy
To Sinimustvalge Karjal:
Now that we have Karjalgrad, we are satisfied. Peace at current borders?

From Persia
To Babylononia:
NAP?

From Nubia
To Mamelukes:
NAP?

OOC
Yeah from now on, when you increase army and navy, I would appreciate if you would do the calculation yourself (remember: 1 econ point spent on army = increase by 5% of pre-update population; i econ point spen on navy = increase by 1% of pre-update population).

No orders from Kejixu, Reno, and Amon Savag. Inca and Fudge Pakistan will be NPC-ed next update.

And the thing about only spend 1 econ per turn on education will end soon. When the "rise of nations" period ends in two or three updates, you will be able to spend as much points as you want on it.

hey kam, since i obviously understood the rules wrong, can I spend the other 3 econ on something else that couldn't be spent on education?

To: Fuzhou
From: Nihon

Greetings, would the government of Fuzhou agree to a NAP? Also, we are interested in establishing a trade port on the island of Taiwan. We are interested as to whether the Fuzhou government would be interested in negotiating a price for such a proposition.

To: Shanghai
From: Nihon

Would the people of Shanghai agree to a NAP?

OOC:
Yes, you can only spend 1 econ point into education at the moment. It will change, though, so that you can spend more on it, in the near future.
Since I spent 2 econ points on education already, will I just start increasing once I reach the next level? If not, can I have one of the points turned into Troops instead?

Also, nobody made it to Hokkaido?

To Nihon
From Fuzhou

We will agree to a NAP with Nihon. However we must decline your request in establishing a trade port in Taiwan, our land cannot be brought at any price.

You didn't spent 2 econ. I noted the mistake myself and increased education only once, so you never spent that other econ point.
As for Hokkaido, another mistake of mine. You have the western half of that island.
So once this rise of nation period passes, you will NOT automatically get a +1 point in education as reimbursement because there is nothing to reimburse. Sorry.

From: Mameluke Egypt
To: Honorable Nubians

We will accept your NAP if you lend us some soldiers to fight the despicable Benghazi.

From Nubia
To Kingdom of the Mamelukes:
We can afford to send 100 troops. The rest we need for self-defense.
