BTW, thanks for the Get Well Soon earlier. I never mentioned that.

But without further delay, a story. Should be done soon.

The First Three Kings of Kalar

According to legend, at the very beginning of the Kalar race the tribe was ruled by an oligarchy. This served well for many generations, but as Kalar grew from a tribe to a nation, the oligarchy became more and more cumbersome. As more people came into positions of power, the actual power of those positions diminished to near worthlessness.

Finally, one senior member of the Oligarchy decided to put an end to the ineffectual government once and for all. With the often grudging support of many other members of the Oligarchy, a great series of tests were prepared to choose one leader to lead the Kalari people. A test of Aratran faith was prepared, in the form of weeks of fasting and meditation. Tests of wisdom and philosophy took place, and a test of tactics came in the form of a great hunt on the plains. A test of political statesmanship was performed before the massed populations of Kalar.

With every test, fewer people remained in the running. And after the test of statesmanship, only two were left.

One of them was the man who had first had the idea of the trials. His name was Molocos. He was a strongly built, brash middle-aged man The other, a man named Vestor, was wise and mysterious, but quiet and humble.

The final competition would test their devotion to their nation at the greatest possible cost- their own lives. The two men would battle for the control of Kalar, as had been the tradition for settling disputes in the barbarian times before the Kalari even existed.

A dagger and shield were the chosen weapons of Molocos. Two spears were what Vestor took. A small clear space in the center of their city was the arena. Molocos was the first one to attack. He charged at Vestor, but his opponent was able to redirect him with a well-held spear. Again and again Molocos charged, but he couldn't get past Vestor's spear.

But gradually, Molocos developed a plan. Charging again at his adversary, he jumped just before Vestor jabbed out his spear, and knocked his enemy's weapon to the ground as he landed.

With a victorious shout, Molocos raced forward, dagger extended. And just a split second before Molocos contacted, Vestor pulled his second spear up from the grass, impaling Molocos. The man died instantly.

Vestor was crowned shortly after his rival's burial later that day. During his reign, he expanded the Kalari nation greatly in all directions, and made contact with numerous nations on the outside. He also did great deals for the promotion of Aratra, making it the state religion of Kalar. Vestor did not marry and have children until very late in his life, and when he died of natural causes after several decades of rule, his son was still an infant. An Aratran Record Keeper, Mojamos, was chosen to rule while Vestor II was young.

This man would later become infamous for starting the Armodi war.

Mojamos was a very religious man, and never made plans to usurp the throne from his young charge. But he was not without flaws. Mojamos took himself and his religion far too seriously, although no one would say it to him.

When the Armodi people refused to convert to Aratra, Mojamos was enraged. For several months, he prepared an army, then launched an attack on Armodos to convert them by force. The invasion went well at first, but soon the better armed and trained Armodi began to push back Kalari forces. Before long, everything north of the river save the capital itself was lost.

At this dark moment, Vestor II came of age and took over the control of Kalar's armies. While the public wanted Mojamos executed, Vestor II couldn't be brought to slay him, so he secretly had Mojamos banished then claimed to have 'executed him in private'. Mojamos wandered off to parts unknown, presumably spreading Aratra until the day he died.

Vestor II had an immediate problem on his hands. His capital was weak, and his armies were poorly trained. He largely solved this problem by creating the Narada legions, elite soldiers armed with the same deadly spears that Vestor II's father had fought with many decades earlier. With these deadly new soldiers, Vestor II began to push the Armodi back, rapidly gaining momentum. Before long, Armodos was reduced back to its own homelands. Massing his forces for a final strike, Vestor II raced into Armodos, defeating their reeling armies.

With the campaign finished and only mop-up remaining, Vestor II returned back to his beloved home and focused on raising his family. His oldest son, named Vestor after his father, became strongly attached to the Aratran religion and spent much of his time studying it.

His second son, Tyrus, was more like his father, a skilled thinker and philosopher. As he grew up, his skill with weapons earned him a high rank in the Narada divisions.

Vestor II's third and last child was a daughter, named Nara. Her mother died in childbirth, and Vestor II never really recovered from the blow. His health and spirits declined, and he eventually passed away at the tragically young age of 42.

His oldest son was crowned Vestor III. Vestor III was very peaceful and religious, almost a mirror image of his brother, who had by then risen to the level of general. Vestor III immediately began many religious projects, such as the construction of great temples and the slow conversion of the Armodi to Aratra.

His reign is going well so far. But the recent barbarian activity to the south is likely to become a problem soon. But in the hands of General Tyrus, the mighty Narada are going to create a strong frontier indeed.

As Kalar strides into an uncertain future, it appears that its fate is in good hands.

You guys hit a luck streak. I will be without intraweb tomorrow. See vacation thread.

Punish the slackers!!!

BTW, what did you think of my story? I think it's my best historical styled one yet.

Yeah, I also made up a story to give me a casus belly to start the war against Gorin in LINES2 after the update. :D Of course, otherwise I would've given myself away and lost the element of surprise. It didn't do me any good anyway, so it was kinda wasted, I guess. :p

u look familiar...... have i seen you in that secret place that only elites get to go to? (i had a chii avatar!)

Chuchki is one of the people from the mysterious outside who occasionally appears for a NES.
