SOUTH SECEDES! AND DECLARES WAR ON THE NORTH!
At least Five States have seceded to form the Confederate States of America! Maryland, Virginia, Carolina, Georgia, and Mississippi! Senator Dawes of Carolina is their President.
They then declared war on the North following two prominent assassinations, that of Thomas Jefferson (this will be shown in a later column), and that of Governor McInley (of which the accused assassins were Pennsylvanian), and invaded the North. The Washington capital was found to be unoccupied, and they took it easily. Maryland, nervous at having a massive Confederate army on their lands, declared for the Confederacy.
They then marched on to Pennsylvania, and met heavy resistance. The only particular place that they made much progress was capturing Philadelphia, but this has outraged Pennsylvania citizens so much that many are fighting as guerrillas behind enemy lines.
In the meantime, West Virginia, too, has seceded, but they from the state of Virginia. The reason they were able to secede was an attack by Ohio militia into Virginia, following their declaration for the union.
The Federal Government is now in New York City, and no laws were passed due to the chaos.
CONNECTICUT SECEDES!
Governor Duder's remarks, "The recent assassination of Adams by anti-Federalist loons, defeat of the Free Northwest Bill, re-institution of slavery in NH, alliances with forces of the excesses of the French Revolution, and the creation of war with Britain by belligerent Massachusetts' sailors, has given the people of Connecticut no other choice than to seek their destiny without the medling of other states. The Free White Protestant Man will live on in Connecticut no matter other degraded course is chosen by the other states. We seek no harm to other states in our secession, only to be left alone and in peace. From this day forth we shall be known as the Free Republic of Connecticut. May we live in Peace." [edited for spelling]
It is not known how others will react.
PRESIDENT JEFFERSON RESIGNS, AND THEN IS MURDERED!
ANOTHER DASTARDLY ACT AGAINST THE HIGHEST OFFICE IN THE UNITED STATES! Southern agents are suspected, though New Yorker mercenaries were the ones who did the deed (they were shot soon after).
President Jefferson had earlier that same day given his farewell address.
It is with great sadness that I leave the nation in its darkest hour. But I am torn. Should I return to my Virginia of Birth, or should I fight for the Union I always believed in? I could not take one or the other in good conscience, knowing that in neither can I perform to the best of my abilities. This nation is entering its darkest hour, and I can only pray to God that we get through safely.
Please, men of the states, have sense! Do not quarrel when the beast that is Britain looms over us! Have sense, and choose wisely. That is my last word of advice as President. I hereby step down from the office of the Presidency.
John Marshall, Adams Secretary of State, is now the President of the United States.
BRITISH WAR CONTINUES
In Massachusetts, New York, New Hampshire, and Michigan, the invaders are driven back. However, soon it becomes apparent why, as ships flying the Union Jack waltz in and seize New Orleans from the French! It is unknown what now will happen. Casualties were small, and few engagements occurred at sea.
OOC: Wow. I can only hope that was of decent quality, because the orders were very difficult to slog through.
