Strange Words

Have you ever concentrated on a word and for some reason, the word begins to seem strange and alien to you? I was sitting today in Chemistry class listening to a lecture about the half-life of radioactive substances when it suddenly occurred to me how strange the word "half" was. After a while this strange feeling passed and the word "half" seem normal again. This has happened before with the word "food". Does this ever happen to you? Do you know how to explain what causes this to happen?

No, but sometimes I find a word that I like and will try to fit it into conversation wherever I can. Like Milquetoast.

Yeah, happens to me periodically. It has for a long time - I remember once falling asleep listening to a CD with a story on it, and one of the characters was named Tom. I remember waking up thinking what a weird name Tom was. But even today sometimes I look at a word, and it seems really strange or unfamiliar, or I'm suddenly unsure if I'm using the right word, or spelling it correctly. It goes away, though.

You forget the meaning as you repeat the word, and only hear a "weird" series of sounds.

Happens to me on occasion, and it kinda weirds me out. I know its not English but just today i was typing "Santa Cruz." Even though Cruz wasn't underlined in red i had to double check to make sure it actually existed in that form.

It happened to me today with the word coffee, I am at a loss to explain why though.

I'm surprised that this is so common. I didn't expect that so many people experience this. Its pretty weird.

It's obviously some word that marks a neural imprint in your mind. The kind that allows someone to control your behaviour. That's what subliminal stuff is all about.

Sometimes you realise it in a vague manner like this. It's a baby step towards realising who and what you really are, but few are able to grasp it.

Happens to me fairly often. It's whenever I'm thinking about a (usually) short and common word for any length of time. I guess it's that I normally don't conciously look at them - on the rare occasions I conciously read the word it looks weird. Kind of like when I've spelt something wrong but I'm not sure how, only that it doesn't look right.
