stSBNES3: A Place in the Shade

on the front page there is now a map of the population's political ideologies. It will take a lot to change them, and unless they change a lot I will not post this map with every updage, but I will take notes. Also, if you are Germany look at the mpa and do not go for a conservative government. If you are Russia or China, do not try to institute Communism. Got it?

To France
From Swiss Confederacy

Switzerland respects the sovereign France's decision to wait until joining a full European economic community. Could it be assumed, though, that France is not against the possibility of a French-Swiss economic agreement?

From Chmn., Swiss Bank, Zürich.

The Swiss Bank wishes to underwrite factories in the new SSM. However, protocol requires an inspection of stability. Is such an inspection possible? Thank you.

To Britian
From Indian Liberation Front

No. We demand nothing less than complete independence. As for war we are not attempting that at this time. For the time being this will be a peaceful independence movement. But if you provoke us it will turn bloody.

To Indian Liberation Front
From Swiss Confederacy

The Swiss Confederacy will not officially recognize India as a state until the UK gives full independence.

Vallabhai Patel stood in the village square surrounded by the villagers. Behind him stood soldiers of the Indian Liberation Front. “People of India” he said, “We suffer under the tyrants heel. The heel of Britain! They occupy our country, loot our land, take our riches, they oppress us! Well I say no more!” He roared
“We must turn the British Imperialists out or they will ruin us all! No matter what religion, caste creed, tribe or color we are we must all rise up and tell the British no more! Hindu, Sikh, Muslim, Jew, Jain, Buddhist, Christian, Parsee, the British will ruin us all!
Join me brothers in liberating our country and our people!”
Cheers broke out. Finally India had said no more. Finally India would be free.

Will you agree to a treaty of Dominionship? You will have your own armed forces, but you will still follow English foriegn policy, also, all ships will remain ours.

This is acceptable for now, however, we expect a gradual devolution of powers to us, and we expect the right to build ships for AUSTRALIA, not Britain.

The Swiss Confederacy
sz-flag.gif

As you might know, the Swiss Confederacy (“Switzerland”) has developed a new and peculiar form of government. First off, the government recognizes four political parties: the Free Democratic Party (FDD) (left), the Social Democratic Party (SDP) (socialist), the Christian Democratic Party (CDP) (centrist), and the Swiss People’s Party (SPP) (right).

Instead of electing a prime minister or chief of state, the voters elect representatives based on those four parties to the House of Parliament, whose members approve the Federal Council. The Federal Council is basically what Americans refer to as the Cabinet. There is:

Minister of Foreign Affairs - SDP
Minister of Home Affairs - FDD
Minister of Justice & Police - SPP
Minister of Defence, Civil Protection, & Sports - SPP
Minister of Finance - FDD
Minister of Economic Affairs - CDP
Minister of Transportation, Communication, & Energy - SDP

Now, three of the four aforementioned political parties get two members to be ministers, and the fourth, the CDP, only gets one, because of its weak membership, compared to the other three. The chief of state and vice chief of state are selected on a rotating basis, drawing from the Federal Council. For example, the current PM is also concurrently the Minister of Economic Affairs.

This system is incredibly stable, because each political party--as long as they do not get an extreme amount of the vote higher than the other parties--has roughly the same control of the government. Also, it is guaranteed that a member of their party will become head of state eventually.

OOC:
In RL, this system is referred to by the Swiss as “the magic formula.” No joke.

To: UK
From: Swiss Confederacy

The Swiss Confederacy is astounded at such rumours, as they are wholly untrue. *cough* Furthermore, the Swiss Confederacy cannot possible hide such monetary support to any group without Parliamentary approval and oversight. Now, there are many Banks in Switzerland, but they are autonomous of the Swiss Confederacy. However, if it will restore diplomatic channels, the Swiss Ministry of Justice will open an investigation into the matter. Is such an investigation desired?

The Swiss Confederacy regretfully retracts its offer for a trade agreement.

-------------------------------------------
The House of Parliament, in a late-night session (we know it was late at night because of the accuracy of our Swatches), rejected a proposal by Minister of Finance Deiss to open a trade agreement with the UK. Speculations abound, but overall, the feeling among the MPs was that of rejection and distrust on the part of the UK, who question the neutrality of the Swiss government. "He [UK envoy] questioned our neutrality towards the issue of Indian sovereignity. Even when the Swiss government refused to acknowledge India neutral without the OK of the British government!" argued MP Vermisse. Minister of Finance Deiss was disappointed with the vote of no-confidence in the UK trade envoy, but hoped that the Parliament would be more sympathetic when the issue will be debated again in the next session.

there was no turkish-russian war

Yes there was - three years before the first NES begun, from what I remember.

Btw, I understand about not having communism, but can I some day establish a pseudo-fascist dictatorship with the Tsar as a figurehead? ;) (ala Seventh Part of Darkness) Not right now, ofcourse.

Reading history now...
