Student accused of "creating a monster"!

The degree of the financial drain matters. I wouldn't try to press criminal charges on someone who nicked a penny I dropped, which is what this is equivalent to if this company isn't run by mongoloids (and if it is - in other words, if the cost of 3 traffic cones is a serious financial burden to it - its existence isn't "benefiting the overall economic health of NC" and it deserves to go down in flames, just as some people deserve to have their windows shot out.)

He did nothing different than someone driving by and shooting someone's window out.
Except this was funny, so it is different :p

Of course he should still face punishment and stuff but that doesn't make it not funny

Quite serious.

Why would he have enough left to celebrate? Do you actually think criminals should profit from their crimes?

He did nothing different than someone driving by and shooting someone's window out. It imposed a financial drain on someone else that he had not right to impose.

I feel sorry for you. If you seriously can't see the difference between a college boy's prank meant to amuse people and an act of violence like shooting out a window, then you're missing something in life.
Stop thinking in black and white and acknowledge the grays - not everyone who breaks the law in a minor way is a 'criminal'... geez.

If I were the judge, he'd have to pay for the damages and a token 20$ fine, and that would be it.

It's rather sad that he will likely always have a criminal record for a simple college prank which likely cost the taxpayers less than $50 - at least until you factor in the cost of his prosecution...

Its record i'd be proud to have to explain.

If he had gone out and bought his own barrels, I would think it was funny. The thing was kind of cool looking, after all. But he didn't do that, did he? He figured he wanted to do something so by golly he had the right to do it and screw any laws he might break and just brush aside any thought to the fact that they weren't his barrels.

If I were the judge, I'd force him to pay for the barrels and then give the company 1 month of full time work at the very least.

Well, we agree he was breaking the law and has to pay the damages, plus he needs a slap on the wrist so he won't repeat it - but let's tone down the stigmatizing as a 'criminal' a bit, shall we?
I don't feel I'm a criminal when I go over the speed limit, either, but I'll pay the fine if I'm caught.

*looks at culprit's photo*

I can see why he'd have time to make this.

Those would be infractions, not necessarily crimes... I don't think you can go to jail for speeding. :)

The problem is you won't even get a chance in most situations, especially if it had been a felony. And even if you do get your chance, you are going to piss off most of the law and order crowd. They will always wonder what act of insurrection you are planning next. Good luck getting them to hire you.

In regards to the thread, this just goes to show that bureaucrats and anyone who supports the punishment of this kid has no joy in their hearts. Live a little, jeezus.

How would you like it if I stole your mailbox to make a fortress in the middle of the town? I think what he did was neat, but it's still someone else's property.

If I were the judge, I'd force him to pay for the barrels
Enough.

and then give the company 1 month of full time work at the very least.

Too much.

Because he doesn't have a girlfriend, as evidenced by his Ted Kaczynski-like level of personal hygiene.

LOL

Lots of chicks dig facial hair.

Less than half, maybe less than a quarter. But some of them like it.

Side note: I am in the process of growing an awesome mustache :king:

As far as his picture is concerned it seems that media personnel always search for the absolute worst, most creepy looking picture of a suspect or perpetrator before publishing an article about them.

You dont know this. Does the state allow the expungement of such offenses? If so, and he doesnt do anything else silly, he could probably get it expunged off his record in a few years.

Secondly, was it indeed a criminal offense or a civil one? The story isnt exactly clear on that...

While I agree, I also possess a sense of humour. He's on the hook for finical losses incurred by the company, and a fine to pay his court fees. Beyond that, I like the guy.
