  1. More emphasis on social skills (near zero from what I remember)
  2. Dealing with emotional issues
  3. Choosing a romantic partner
  4. Childrearing (again, learned zero about this)
  5. Deciding what work/hobbies/projects will make you happy
  6. Managing money (nothing on this that I recall)

Just off the topic of my head, I'll add more if I think of them.

I was in school (mostly public & some weird boarding schools) from the 80's to mid 90's so maybe they do focus more on these important matters nowadays.

The only thing I would agree with from the above is managing money. I don't necessarily mean making a budget but there are a lot of finance related things that I don't understand such as taxes, social security, investing, insurance and all that. These are facts that you could actually teach someone.

Childrearing, choosing a partner, dealing with emotion, I think a lot of these are just based on experience and theoretical ideas which can vary greatly depending on what certain experts think.

There should be an entire semester class on car loans and mortgages and the related specific math.

I feel like they'd only screw that stuff up just like they screw up history and English.

I wish they would focus less on the stuff for getting into real elite universities and more on practical stuff. As not everyone's college material.

One of the first things we did for new soldiers back in the early 90s was a check writing class on how to manage a checking account and balance funds. I could see how something similar would be beneficial to high school juniors or seniors.

Austrian economics. But like Dachs said, they'd probably screw it up and use Paul Krugman as the textbook.

none of these would actually be helpful when taught in a school environment

Do this instead of trig, trig is freakin' useless:p

(Waits for Paradigmshifter to tear me apart, remember not everyone is in a Math related career.)

Compound interest? You can learn that in minutes. It's just a geometric series.

Very. Especially in 3d graphics.

Ok, Mr. balliatic missiles

So you want to ensure that the next generation will be delusional.

Considering that everything taught between grades 1-8 was exactly the same, I'd say, teach something other than the same thing in those grades.
