OOC: Update, update, update!

By the way, I take it new nations will appear out of the white territory and so on, like in all NESes.

IC:

From: Visigoths
To: Ostrogoths

Excellent! Next turn, we will attack with all forces. I will personally command our armed forces. Good?

To: Brittania
From: Scandinaves
Do not feel threatend by our raids of the Pictish lands, we mean you no harm and wish for nothing but peace between our two nations. But should you interfere with us we will answer with force. You should join me in my quest against theese filthy Picts whom befould lands that rightfully belong to you. You can have all their lands for all we care, we just want a friendly harbour to resuply our ships for when we seek to explore the vast oceans. Do we have a deal?
Much love and many kisses, Sven

Brittania to the Scandinaves (A secret envoy) :

We have no interest in capturing the barbarian lands of the Picts at the moment, holding them down would be more trouble than its worth. So long as you do not pirate our shores, we foresee no need for emnity between us.

Desist! For Roxilani has now united with Alani, who is allied with me, who is part of the Roman League! Should the Roxolani call upon the Alani, and should the Alani call upon me, I will not be responsible for bloodshed! I'm not declaring war upon you, but if my ally calls upon me, I'm obliged to hear that call!

update will tonight, not sure what time though

hwy. we roxis are close to the Alans and all, but we wouldnt go as far as to say we're unified :p

Well... You have a daughter and son married... That's ALMOST like unification...

From: Visigoths
To: Eastern Roman Empire

Unification? What unification? Also, how come is a people who don't quite know what latin is becoems a part of the "Latin League"? We do not consider them a part of the "Latin League", and neither do we consider Alans.

Also, who exactly is spying for you?

It's the ROMAN league. A loose federation consisted of the territories of the unified Roman Empire, sworn to defend each others' interests. The Alans are not allied with the Roman League, but I am, and I'm part of that league.

Unification - Eldest Alani son married a Roxolani daughter. Not exactly unification, but o well.

You think I'd tell you if there's spying? Pah!

OOC: Sorry Xen, I accidentally set two sets of orders. Please use the later, more detailed ones.

I only have one set of orders from you

(and yes, this means i have, tentivlly, started the update, best to get an early start on it, because what will take longest in filling in some nation stats for both new players, and some NPC's that need doing

however that said, i plan to take many breaks, includng one for cooking dinner, as its my turn to do that tonight

Well, I'm thorougly confused. Unless what I believed to be the first set of orders was actually my old orders... I don't know. Whatever, you ought to have orders about building the Great Mosque and increasing my army with Dervishes.

yep those arethe orders that i have (on another note, the update is nearlly done- I'm about halfway done with the current naitons stats, then I have to do the stats for the new join-ups, which will be hard, they may have to wait a turn for a UU... I have no idea abotu the NPC nations, I'll put a few up, like the Roxoliani for example., but I doubt more then one or two tonight

Western Europe

Western Roman Empire
It was a mighty time- for the first time in three centuries, a Roman amry crossed the Rhine to do battlle, not for one of the many puntive campaigns of punishment and general destruction, but to do somthing undone since the time of Caesar, to conqoure the land beyond the Rhine.

It was a major military movement, involving aspects of the entire western Roman forces, though the first step in this new found domination over the germans was to have mercenaries lead an assult, and retreat to territory favorable to legions...

Unfortunatelly, even with the lacking Frankish leadership. the mercenaries were cut down to a man, as the Franks used thier trademark troops to lead an assult on the mercenaries on thier hometurf, in which thier was no contest the Mercenaries, despite being raised in such conditions, could counter.
Losses= W. Rome- 500 Mercenaries Franks- 25 UU, 200 Warband

However, despite the setbacks in the franklands forrests, the Roman army dose make progress in the flat lands of the area, leading with the legions, who grow in skill and tact to somthing more readilly recognizeable as a true legionary, they and the Auxilla Palantina, the standard infantry, mop up the disorginzed frankish forces, the only obsticle being a last ditch effort by a contingetn of Frankish cavalry at a counter attack...
Losses= W. Rome- 20 UU, 130 Infantry Franks- 175 UU, 200 Warband, 200 Cavalry

The great Victories, despite the losses, and a great fesitval to Sol Invictus (Mithras), the protector god of the W. Empire, inspires great confidence in the troops,a nd futher reforms the roman military machine, and the society of W. Rome...

Though thats not the end of W. Roman ambition- encouraged by the increse of treasury by the awesome kegger thrown, the empror further focuses on the economy, eventually decideing on opening up full official trade with the Eastern Roman Empire- however- because the emperor could not focus his attention on the economy, and open up a trade rout the same turn, it was chosen to go with increseing the econoym of the empire- though despite this, in a quirk of the Gods,it was the Eastern Empire who was the one with the real current financial crisis...

perhaps the most intriuging event in W.Rome was how it dealt with the frankish settlers- leding a contingent of cavalry, a local general presented an ultimatum- they coudl join the empire as free-men (the general refused to caryy out the emperors order of citizenship- these were after all the same people he had been fighting his entire career), or slavery- given the choice, most of the franks choose to go with the freeman status, and although they had set off for north italy, things soon deteriated, and the general, who had little wish to escourt the Franks anyware other then across the rhine by the tip of a spear, or into shackels, and on to his villa, and given the franks ill manners, and ill treatment by the cavalry, soon wete down in the middle of Gual, which had been, several decades past, been depopulated by by an outbreake of plague- in relitive solitude, the franks, were able to estbalish themselves peacefully, and within a few years had even began the process of Romanization, particurlly spured onby the much apprent blending of local gallic and roman culture for the past 3 centuries- the result is a weak federate nation inside Roman borders.. what action the emperor will take when he hears the news is unkown...

Franks
Disaster seems to loom for the franks, who, so lacking in leadership, seem to have abandoned all hoped- the wise men fo the nation predict that if the Franks do not soon pcik up th emantle of leadership, that the Frankish nation will bo lost in less then 10 years time... however, they do throw a kegger.

Britannia
Britannia watches, seemiglly mutelly to the happenign of chaos all around them, the seeming reversing of fortunes in the W. Roman Empire, the great decline of the frankish nation, its leaders lacking somwhat, the raids on the barbarians to thier north... Bu tunder the surface, a war machine brews... The great King-general Ambrosius has orderd his lands to preapre, with a fine new contingent of ships, calling th eport of noviomagus home, the, along with the other ships of the fleet patrol thier homewaters avidlly- moreover, the refurnishing of forces contius, with 1000 new infantry men freshlly added to the ranks, and out on patrol- defence seems to be what on the mind of the british, and should enemy attack, what defenders they will be!

Central Europe

Teutons
The tuetons seive theInitiative, and begin setteling thier lands for, what is for them at least, a mighty capital city, adn while becoming the benchmark of germanic culture in the area, most diplomats from other nations such as the Goths, and Romans can only comment on “what culture?”

However, the now centrlized settlement fo rthe germanic court has resulted in a better ability to command the forces of his nation, and have greatlyl expanded east, and wer ein the process of doing so, until a new peoples cam on the scen, the so called “Pruss”...

Otherwise things are rather quiet for the teutons, ther calls for allaince being rebuffed by thier fellow germanics, until the need for it arises, or the Tuetons can prove that they are a capeble leader- the Germans dont think eithe ri slikelly ,w hich is why they gave those conditions- as such, the tuetonic king dom now itches for a chance to prooveitself

Eastern Europe

Alans
The Alan forces grow in migth and number, as they re-infoce thier mighty armies of horse archers with the recruits from the newlly inducted Alani tribes- moreover, engineers from the civlized land sof the south come, and now aid the Alans in a great project- a huge market place for he trader sof the region to gather at, and will, hopefulyl be noteable to he yearly fairs it hosts, will be built, styled in function, to a Greek Agroa or Roman merchants forum- the project is rather humble, though still grand by anyone, particurley the Alans standards...

However, the most noteable news of the nation comes from the Alans contiue policy of envoys, in this case almost exclusivlly to the region of the eastern Caspain sea, the nomads on the Persian border- which soon leads to conflict with a persian advance in the region... the end result is a unpreapred battle, where the Alan cavalry, surprised b the Perisan offenisve, and the perisan, ready to fight any one on horseback they comeacorss fight it out on the plains..
Losses- Alans- 200 cavalry Persians- 300 Infantry

The Alans, while failing at a diplomatic mission, do however seend the wants to establish a nation in the nomads, and moreover, teches them how to fight more effectivlly...
though on the Other end of the kingdom, many a horseman is seen galloping into the domain of the Roxiolanii people, welcomed, offically, be the locals as brothers, as the great celibration of a wedding between the royal familly of the Alans, and the most promiant famiilies daughter of the Roxiolani people commences- and while the marrige dose not unfiy the two lands, it dose draw them much closer together

Eastern Roman Empire
The eastern Roman Empire is going through hard times, as the emperor cannot seem to grasp the fact that if he works to have the nation improve the economy, he cannot have the empire spend the economy it is earning, and so while the economy of the empire is improving, the advisors to the emperor are hesitant to say that he the empire still dose not have the proper funding to create a trade rout with the Alan tribes of the Caucases- however, because the god of a far distant kingdom, the great Xen, gawd of awesomeness was lenint to the the emperos blunders in the economy department, he make sup strategically by initiating a a great revival along similer lines as the W. Romans, but instead of reforming to a prior time of military and sociality, he seeks to simply try to improve the lot of the Eastern Empire- the project is ambitious, and to get the desired results, even the most optimistic of imperial advisors say that it will be quite a wait...

Visigoths
The Gothic kings seem to have choosen to reflect towards the culture of thier nation, for with the begiining of a great work, the Kings of the Gothic nations have begun to amaglimate a great deal of knowledge and ,ore from all sources, be the roman, germanic, or others from far away, on mistical and magical potions and rituals, the offical reason winning over the men of the kingdoms over completelly, for the kings have announced they look for the fabeld and legendary elixir of beer! weather or not they find the mythic recipe for it, it dose go a long way toward establishing a unique Gothic culture...

In other apsects of the Gothic kingdoms, horsemen are raised, most from the ostrogothic lands, for thier proximity to the steppe has resulted in a superior cavalryman over thier visigothic brethren, however, not all is good fo rthe combined Gothic nation- weary Border gurds grudginlly let Gothic diplomats into the eastern roman empire, and even then, a heavy escourt prevents the Goths from seeing much of anything the Eastern romans dont want them to see, and while the journey dose teach the Goths a thing or two about coutesy, and how the Eastern Romans are lacking in it, and give them an appreciation for E. Roman administration skills, they dont learn much. This combined with the luke warm results of trying to send scouts of 100 strong warbands out to find if thier are any real threats from as yet unknown nomads isnt successful, as so many armed men coming into Roxolnai territory are met only as invaders, and so are repulesd, with minor casualties for the Goths... this leads to the ostrogoths, who already want to proove thier skills to those of the visigths who are christian, to show them who the real gods of the goths are, to want to go to war with the Roxoliani... (it is onyl the promise thatthey will eventually get to do this soon that is keeping many an ostrogothic chiefe from rebelling from the Visigoths, who they feel betrayed by)
Losses- 100 warband

Northern Europe

Scandinaves
The Scandinaves embark in a mission of expansion in their homearea, as lands to thir north are conqoured, as well as severl islans in the baltic sea itself, but the real bulk of Scandinave events is a botheced raid on Edinburg- while well planed and co-ordinated, the horde of wariors sent to raid the city when they came upon the iste they found, to thier dismay, they city did not, infact, exist yet. However, they did go about raiding the countryside, and so another economy was added to thier treasury- but the Highlanders were MUCH more weary this time around, and inflicted losses upon the scandinave raiders...
Losses- Scandinaves- 300 Warband Picts- 50 Clansmen

Middle East and India

Persia
In Persia, times are focused, offically, on the economy- but in the north, reinfocements ot the already significant garriosn arrive, and contineu thier push along the caspian- soon meeting up with emerates from the Alan kingdom, and, lookign so much liek the nomads they fight weeklly, the Perians give battle- and while causaltyies ot both sides are rather light, it seems assured that the Alans are going to attepmt to move in on the area, as they make it very well known to the populace how they will differ from the rPersians in thier rule... and while few tribes actually join the alans, the local have benifited from Alan troops in how to fight Perisa...
Losses- Alans- 200 cavalry Persians- 300 Infantry

Hedjaz
the armie sof hedjaz are greatlly, and under the command of thier self proclaimed prophet, expand across the deserts and onto the borders of E.Roman syria...
Losses- 100 Dervishes

But that is notall the great prophet of the desert dictates- he soon orders a a wonder built upon the ruins of the temple of the areas old religion, to be deidicated to his god- moreover, it is to complete the people of his lands conversion to his faith- and with that proclaimed, the far northern and sourthern regiosn of his realm immdeatlly rebell- they would at least liek a choice in the matte,r though local traditiosn prevailing, they wouldnt convert unless forced to...

Gupta
The Gupta Kingdom is now marked by firm leadership, and the maharaja takes firm command of his forces, having them move south to the coast- unimpeeded fo rthe most part, they make significant gains, and soon reach the port city of Tamralipti.

The Far East
War rages is China!

While not the first in the series of evwnts, th emost notable is certianlyl the huge battle that took place in the northern border of the Wu Kingdom, where the forces that had initially pentrated, and thier reinfocemnts, looking to go on an offensive met up iwht a Wu counter offensiv- the batle was a bloody massacre, featuring thousands of soldires, and while it was the Wu who had the advatage of number,s the notoriuos two brothers of the emperor of Shu, along with the emperor himself were decisive in the battle for inspireing thier troops, and desicive strategy offered- cavalry and infantry charges ranged across the battle feild, as the colourful banners, and uniforms made the feilds alive with color- but in the deadly contest none could claim true victory, as hevey losses on both sides, and limited gians for the Wu, and limited losses territorially for the Shu meant that in the north, unless a skilled strategy was thought upon, a slow slugging fest between the two kingdoms would ensue...

Losses- Wu-1050 Infantry, 450 cavalry Shu-1000 Infantry, 500 Cavalry

However, in the other areas of the front, it is decidelly the Wu who have taken the initiative- pulling most of thier troops out of Taiwan, and massivlly re-inforceing thier armies, the great river barges of Wu patrol the rivers, while huge offensives take place along the central border- thier most cunnign stratgy was to attempt to ruse the Shu into taking a surrenderd city, but Shu forces had left the area, as they had all gone to reinforce the Shu armies in the north, to attmept to lead a path of conquest from that quater...

but with thousands of troops, and thie rbarges to thier back, the Wu armies landed in, and havesuccessful started a campaign of conques tin Shu territory! overjoyed at the chance to turn the tables on the Shu, the army moral soars for the Wu armies, though the hard determined Shu put up a hard fight for the Wu armies, the results are a large fott hold into Shu lands, but any more expnasion is forseen to be slow and hard fought.
Losses- Wu- 600 Infantry, 300 cavalry Shu- 1000 Archers, 150 cavalry, 150 UU

The Wei in the North still stare mutelly onthier southern brothers, as the border nomads have resolved thier conflict, and, while at peace now, could at any moment be preapring for a strike on the Wei, now that they are semi unfied under one banner- however, the lossers f the civil war, if even by the narrow margin of faulty leadership, as the teo oppnets fighting skills are much the same, have been ejected entirelly from the Mongolio-Turkic lands, and these nomads ar emakign thier way into the uncharted lands of the west, into exile, or who knows what other threats, wonders, and oppertunities...

Yamato
The Yamato enter into a period of new found leadership, and choose to focus on thier economy

Silla
The Silla, liek there counter parts in the Yamato kingdom, have also found great new leaderhsip- they als choose to expand thier economic interests- however, they also rally the troops, prepareing for battle, weather that batlle be for defence or expansion, onyl they know...

FunanThe Kingdom of Funan enters into promiance, as it comes into its own, and notifes the empires closest to it ,that it has a good deal of control overthe areas of Cambondia and Thailand- they, liek the many other empires around the east, choose to expand thier economic ventures

Mohammed watched as his countrymen and brothers-in-faith labored on the Great Mosque in Mecca. Ever since the first stone had been laid by his own hand, Mohammed had visited the site daily, inspiring the thousands of workers. But now he was needed elsewhere in Hedjaz; other issues demanded his attention.

In the far north and south, the troublesome infidels -- a word Mohammed had coined, after hearing it in a dream -- were not only clinging to their old and flawed ways, but had now entered into open rebellion against his (and therefore Allah's) rule. This could not be allowed. But the great Prophet had a solution.

As God had commanded him to take up the sword against the idolatrous shrine of Mecca, so too would he and his followers take up the sword to spread the True Faith. If the pagans of the north and south refused to accept Allah and His Prophet, they would be made to accept them. If they did not believe, they would be made to believe, by force. Such was Mohammed's command to his men.

Mounting his horse, the Prophet set out to lead his most elite infantry corps into battle in the north to subdue and convert the resisting pagans. He gave command of his southern corps of Dervishes to his most trusted follower, Ali Hassan al-Aqabah. Each man would lead a force of some 1200 Dervishes, supported by 200 skilled desert horsemen, into battle against the enemies of the Faith. By defeating His foes, Mohammed and his followers would bring Allah's favor and glory upon their nation.

To Eastern Roman Empire:
Greetings, neighbors. We have heard much of your great culture, rich lands, and ancient traditions. We have also heard that you are People of the Book, worshipping a single almighty God as we do. Therefore, we extend to you our warmest greatings. Know that we wish for the best of relations with the Eastern Empire, and that Christians in the rebelling lands will be spared the wrath of Allah's blades, as they are honorable people, unlike the pagan infidels.
