Subdued Animals in C2C discussions

Ill create that button but I think we need one, universal button for placing animals. IMO we dont need icon for each animal.

DH helped me make a chart for animal spawning codinates. Here it is ...

There is only one mission and all herd animals can use it, so there is only one button needed. The problem is that sometimes you are placing something that will become a herd and pasture while others will become a hunting preserve.

The Great Farmer is something else again. By its nature it requires one button for each.

Personally I think it would be great if it could have one button and a popup like spy missions have. Is that not possible?

Possible but would take a bit of setup and I think DH wants to go another direction with the GF eventually anyhow.

Not the way the Great Farmer is coded. It would need to be totally reworked.

Note: the animal putting itself as a herd has all sorts of restrictions based on your tech level and terrains. The Great Farmer does not have these restrictions - otherwise it would not be a great farmer.

Art is already in core for
  • Barredowl
  • Booby
  • Btapir
  • Caiman
  • Caracal
  • Cuscus
  • EthiopianWolf
  • Fennec Wolf
  • Fruitbat
  • Mtapir
  • Mttapir
  • Numbat
  • Opposum
  • Sea eagle
  • Secretarybird
  • Tree Sloth

The only change you need to all your are defines is to get rid of the sea serpent sounds.

I have coded but not tested the template for the myth and stories in Mtapir. I will update the SVN when I have and give some details here.

@ DH

dont know what is going on here (pic 1), it says i can put a resource on a plot but it has a different btn (cow/wolf)? then i tried it and all that happened was the cow got deleted is all, no resource put on plot??

Because you only have 50% success chance of putting a cow resource on the plot.

Cheers

As BG says. The chance of success is shown in the hover over, you only get a message on success. Having better techs increases the chance of success eg domestication of that animal.

Thx, i dont read hardly anything in the game, i dont even use any of the pedia stuff.

This now applies to subduing too doesn't it? At least my new game started tonight seems to reflect that. Once I get better techs for domestication i seem to be able to have a better chance at subdue. 1st part of preh era up to Tribalism my subdue rate was 1 in 10-15. Birds and lynx/jaguar seemed to be the easiest. Bison, horse, onager, camel, and moose seem to be much harder to subdue.

I have not made any changes. As far as I have seen, if you really really want a particular animal you wont subdue one:D

Huh???:confused::confused::confused:

He's just echoing thoughts I've had too... The game engine doesn't change any but irony plays out strong while playing it and you'd think there's some kind of programming in the structure to make that happen. Like you lose your best units on 99% chance battles etc...

In his case, like I've seen many times over it's like: Ooooh a horse! I NEED a horse! Send in my BEST hunter who has the greatest possible chance to capture it and... ugh... the hunter who just captured the last 7 animals in a row just killed this damned horse!

I think things have gotten a bit carried away as far as animals go. I understand that there is a big difference between a black bear and a brown bear, but what really does it matter for the game? I think there should only be "bear" to cover all bears. For birds, you can have bird of prey, scavenger bird, and exotic bird. Why need all the others? Even in the version I last played, v33, it was over done. I didn't see the need for so many types of birds, bears, or snakes. Snakes can be poison snakes or non-poison snakes. Then you also have lizards. When it doesn't affect the game mechanics why have 3 or 4 versions of an animal that do largely the same thing? Really animals just give early GP's that give culture and science in the early game. They can stand in the way of progression into the real game. Lets streamline the animals into the categories that matter and give the diversity to religion, civics, languages, and culture. This is a Civilization simulation after all, not a hunting simulation.

Before there was a Caveman2Cosmos game there was the Prehistoric NWA with DH's Hunting mod. Hunting has been part of this since the beginning. We are also lucky enough to have access to animal models from the Zoo Tycoon 2 community which have expanded our animals types greatly.

I remember the old days when all you could hunt was like lions, bears, wolves, tigers and eagles. It got very boring in what creatures you found. Now we have a wide variety of species to choose from as well as regions of the globe that actually look different.

Before every land had lions and tiger and bears. Now we have corners of the map with their own unique animals. Before you would not know where the heck you were on the planet, now just by looking that what animals you have around you can tell where you are on the globe. See kangaroos and koalas? Guess your in Australia. See Jaguars, Tapirs and Macaws? Guess your in South America.

Also its fun to try to find the rare species like Pandas. There is a lot more we could be doing with this. And I cannot wait to see how this part of the mod evolves.

Lastly this is C2C for goodness sakes, where "more is more"! What did you expect? :groucho:

Yea, I was thinking that some of the subdued animals should be necessary for cultures.

We already have some subdued animals influencing religions and I have ideas for taking it even further.
