Subdued Animals in C2C discussions

@Dancing Hoskuld

Here is a Flamingo for you. They live in Africa and the Americas. This is oen animal that actually lives in the Salt Flats (as well as swamps and freshwater).

You will need to find the right size for it. I tried to make it bigger. Also I could not fold the wings so I made it flying instead.

The button/icon is also included. Enjoy! :goodjob:

Shouldn't the Sea Otter be a "Sea Animal" Unit and not a normal "Animal" Unit?

It is, you will only find it in the sea. It does have the wrong unit combat class so it will be able to get land promotions but not sea ones. Minor problem that will get fixed in the fullness of time.;)

Here is a snow leopard. They live in Asia. I am thinking it should be on Peaks and maybe even Permafrost or Ice too. Note that live in the Himalayas and not the Arctic so its a weird combo of being adapted to the cold but not a "polar" animal.

Like the others there is a button and you will need to re-size it since I have not tested it in game. I did make the model a bit bigger and fixed the tail not to look so weird.

I'm thinking the "tamed animals" could use some tweaking. As they stand now they aren't very effective fighting units, far too many +'s vs. animals in the early game so wimpy units slaughter them en masse. They are, however, incredibly overpowered for spreading dancing bears, bear cages, big cat cages, and wolf cages to every city in the empire for a huge +12:culture: (not to mention the :)) for very little outlay, it puts many a wonder to shame. They might be more reasonable as a non-combat unit that costs far more to construct.
While I'm on the topic. Does anyone ever build the tamed lion, ever, for any reason? I ask because the tamed panther has the same strength, same abilities, same :hammers: cost, plus movement of 2 vs. the lions 1.

I was thinking maybe we could have a Dolphin Trainer building in the modern era where you could have a special dolphin spy unit that would act like a Stealth Submarine and could spy upon your enemy or maybe even have them get a Kamikaze promotion and explode ships/subs.

Note we could just use the subdued dolphin graphic already in the game and even have subdued dolphins upgrade into them.

We could also possibly do the same for sea lions (which they have) or even other marine mammals like orcas or belugas.

Hm. If so, then we should also make kamikaze torpedos (the Japanese planned on using those in WWII but never did). The whole idea of one-use units is something I don't think has been discussed much.

Well in a way they did, it was well known to the Japanese fighters if they were going down, to do the Kamikaze and honorable thing to do, run your plane into a ship.

Yes, they used Kamikaze aircraft, but they were planning on using piloted suicide torpedoes against US landing craft in the event of an invasion, which never happened, so the torpedoes were never used.

@Hydro it is the snow leopard I can't get to work. There is something wrong with the graphics that stops the game starting. :( I'll be working on the flamingo when I can. I need to test the Chimp but it looks like it is working.

@Dancing Hoskuld

I have been playing a game where my civ started in the southern hemisphere. While I see lots of Aussie creatures I have not seen one penguin despite having tons of tundra, permafrost and ice around. Could you possibly increase the Penguin and Rockhopper Penguin appearance rate? Also could you chnage the name of the "Penguin" to "Emperor Penguin"? Thanks!

Rockhoppers I have seen a bunch of in every southern start game I've had. The other one though I've not seen for 6 or 7 versions I think.

Cheers

Reminds me of the dolphins from Red Alert 2 :D

Yeah the Giant Eagle gets its it too, which looks very cool. Perhaps a special "Thunderbird" Myth should be made for it.

On a side note one of the origins of the Firebird myth is crows/ravens picking up shiny objects or even embers and placing them on flammable roofs (such as thatched roofs) which in turn catch on fire.

No, it should be a Thunderbrd myth. :D
