Subdued Animals in C2C discussions

I was going to look through some of that but you did bring up some further points to consider. I'll make sure to give it a thorough ai review but for some of the more complex applications of ai code, I may just point out to you where I've noted you might want to take a look so I don't cause damage.

Personally, I feel that it is best to leave the definition of (barbarian) animal as it is. If we need some other behaviour for some other critters then we just define them differently.

The point is that I would leave it as is, but give us the ability to add a notation to the animal unit or to a promotion that the animal unit could get, that eliminates the border restriction. In an eventual situation where for example: deer, doves, pheasants, turkeys, etc... don't really attack people but wander in where people exist anyhow, and snakes slither in without giving a rats ass about the humans being there, that a beaver terrorizing people is rabid, you have a few good reasons for SOME animals and conditions for animals, may be enabled to enter borders.

@Dancing Hoskuld

So are you back or still away? Because after the freeze it would be great if you could finally add the other animals I posted for you.

- Sea Otter
- Alligator
- Nile Crocodile
- Giant Panda (Replacement model)
- Black Bear
- Grizzly
- Spectacled Bear
- Sloth Bear
- Sun Bear
- Moon Bear

Thanks! :goodjob:

I am back but I should not be:mischief:. You want the animals, space and mars terrains, fossils as a resource, and perhaps soy as a resource. I have agreed to do a detailed evaluation of CivPlayer8's civics and I want to get Sevo's Gods mod in to v25. Plus I need to figure out how to make an account on the ideas tracker so I can assign some stuff to me and finish it off also.

I think I need a holiday!:lol: I definately need :coffee:

ahaha oh my goodness, you make my dang day all the time DH ;)

Yeah i just read your comments in the modmod area, thx for doing that on the "civics" i believe in as you know, the more the better.

I'd say that the space and mars terrains are more of a priority, as Koshling is about a week from adding Viewports. I don't envy your task load though. :lol:

@Dancing Hoskuld

Well adding the animals would get one thing checked off your huge TODO list :p

I was just worried it was getting burred in this thread. Also I think if they are added we can finally claim we have 100+ animals to hunt.

We really need to clone DH. :worship:

EDIT: Looks like ls612 already did the Panda. Thanks dude!

Heck, if someone else on the team is capable of making animals, perhaps that task can be switched over to leave DH more time to work on things only he can do...

That would be up to DH. He is the one who invented the whole subdue animals stuff. So it is his baby in how the animals get incorporated into that.

They are all about three quarters done. I need to change the spawning locations on the current bears and decide if I a going to have which of the existing crocodiles represent the remaining unrepresented ones. Then I need to test which is the slow bit. I also want to play a game. I understood we are in the freeze before v24 so I was going to do them early after its release.

As far as subdued animals go I also need to add in the option for guiding subdued animals home and how to have a reduced set or sets for people who either don't like subdued animals or have machines which can't support the number of different unit graphics we have (like me ;)).

Have you altered northern tundra spawns since v23? Because it spawns only Caribou and rarely musk ox, leading to deer herds in every city if you have access to a decent sized northern tundra, and thus unbalancing things like the butcher's guild. On the other hand, southern tundra doesn't spawn much of use apart for the occasional penguin.

I'd recommend increasing (polar) bear and wolf spawns on the tundra tiles, and possibly allowing penguins to spawn in the north as well, and caribou in the south.

@MaX,
Do you use the same type map all the time? Or do you try different ones?

Seems the Type of Map you use makes a big difference in what animals show up when and where.

At least that's what I've eXperienced.

JosEPh :)

Yeah, I use an unmodified C2C_PerfectWorld2f with pangaeas allowed. The Ice/Permafrost/Tundra area is about 5-10 tiles wide on a large map, although it can extend further in places due to mountain ranges. So it's not like it's a large portion of the total map.

Here are 2 NEW dogs if you want something different:

I have looked at these, not sure how useful the black one is but the brown one looks OK.

There has been no change to caribou or musk ox spawns since v23 was released.

If we had seals then they would spawn in the antarctic. Spawns are currently based on Earth rather than ecosystems. Earth is divided into North/South and three East-West regions, Americas, Europe and Africa, and Asia and Oceania. Changing it requires changes elsewhere some of which may happen anyway.

I wonder if we could use that one for a unit with invisible/camo status? or something like that in mind, just thinking out loud. . . .
