SuBI1 - Masters of the high seas

Yep, very likely. I'm betting that the Dutch will want to double the gpt price from 18 to 30's ish. This surely will anger the King and he'll want to go war with the Dutch

Now about the Forbidden Palace. The most ideal city for FP would be on river, bonus food tiles, and some mountains/hills.

The ideal FP cities I see are Taejon, Inch'On, and SpikeIt's home.

1) Taejon is already rank 1 and has minimal corruption, so FP is better off somewhere else.

2) Inch'On doesn't have enough mountains/hills nearby.

3) SpikeIt's Home is the actual city I would vote to have the honor to build the FP. I know it's full of jungles. But it has some food bonus (the bananas), and it has some mountains around. It'll take a while for that city to build a FP. We can bring groups of workers to clear out the jungles. I believe it's 24 turns to clear jungles. So, if we bring 4 workers to clear each jungle tile, it will be 6 turns, and that's enough to complete before the FP is finished.

4) And you're right, Trebizond is another ideal place. It's 66% corrupted, though. It has plenty of mountain (one with gold bonus), and a game bonus 2SW of it. Like SpikeIt's home, it'll need a lot of remodeling.

So, guys, what do you think: Trebizond or SpikeIt's Home?

P.S. After playing around for a bit, I realized we can demand around 5gp from each of these three weak civilizations (Vikings, Carthaginians, and Portugueses). It doesn't matter what they think of us, they're very annoyed with us since we broke two deals so far. (I broke the deal of exporting the spice to Byzantines, and Bast broke the Military Alliance Vs. Byzantines with the Dutch). That explains why the rest of the world is annoyed with the Korean :p I thought it would be nice to net extra 15 gpt. What do you think?

Yeah, sorry about that as I forgot we had a MA with Dutch. Ah well, they'll all be dead soon anyway...

You know, I was wondering why everyone was so mad at us... Oh well. Our rep may be tarnished, but nothing really, really bad, as trades for GPT still seem okay. Liz really hates our aggressive city over near her though.

As for the FP, I would hope Trebizond would work out a little better only because it might have a greater affect on the conquered Byzantine cities to the north and it has more potential production available to it. Plus I believe its coastal so it may pull in a little bit more gold.

I would choose Inch'on over SpikeIt's Home (blasphemy!) since putting the FP there would likely make SpikeIt's home relatively uncorrupt while still being a bit more northern to pull in the Byz cities.

GoHorsieGO! doesn't even look like a bad choice as its largely worked already and it has some mountains and hills for production.

I can't really look at the relative corruption rates currently, so I'll just speculate my order of preference:

1) Go Horsie GO! - Decent production possibilties, already largely worked land, but will need irrigation. Corruption likely an issue. Should help with northern and eastern conquests.
2) Inch'on - Production isn't great, but with grassland, will be productive with specialist in the future. Less initial corruption and will prove very beneficial to surrounding cities which can be strong.
3) Trebizond - decent potential production, but relatively corrupt currently. Needs a lot of work, irrigation, swamp clearing. Would strengthen north.
4) SpikeIt's Home - home sweet home. A lot of work to get going. Okay production potential. May have weakest effect on other holdings since farthest west and south of potential sites.

Anyways, I believe any of the above would help out. Inch'on and SpikeIt's could probably build it straight away. Go Horsie or Trebizond could probably benefit from a MGL to build our FP.

Actually isn't Gogf up next? Is he still around?

Remember what you said before, FP doesn't reduce the corruption of its surrounding city, only to increase the Optimal City Number and reduce the corruption due to the distance. If we build FP at Trebizond or other city, the corruption will be same around Inch'On. (ha ha ha, I just thought of a good brand-name for itching medicine "Itch-OFF!" )

Hmmm. I seem to talk in circles a lot. Anyone dizzy yet? :D

I guess what I meant and from what I understand, the new corruption model doesn't produce a full fledged 2nd core around the FP city. But it does reduce corruption to an extent. The FP won't change the rank of the cities, but will reduce rank corruption minimally in all cities because the OCN is boosted. The FP does reduce corruption due to distance in the surrounding cities, as the FP acts like a new palace in regards to distance. So cities around the FP should benefit somewhat because the FP in located nearby. I guess I just don't know how great this extent is. But we do know the FP city itself will have minimal corruption.

Because of all this, I still stand by my preferences. Inch'on may be a bit of a gamble, since it won't be terribly productive itself. It really depends how great an effect the FP has on distance corruption. Anybody with a lot of experience?

I'm here.

There are however three people before me who I think should be given the chance to rule.

Yeah, I'm here too and eagerly waiting for someone to pick this up. Given the game has been available since the last turn ended on the 17th, I say we skip Gogf and let SuperBeaver and Oblivion fight it out to go next. If neither picks it up in the next 24, I say Balastulin should take his turn. At least we can try to keep the game moving and hope they join back in. We haven't had a post from any of the them in quite a while.

By 'whole continent' I presume you mean the one which the Dutch are sitting on?

:hammer:

Gogf,

Welcome back! It seemed we were losing the team here. If you're ready, why don't you grab the game. You were up, and we were going to skip you, but since SuperBeaver and Oblivion haven't grabbed it either, its still fair game.

Right now our strategy is to finish off the Byzantines if possible on our continent. We are currently at war.

Be aware, we have a lux deal with the Dutch that will expire in two turns. Its going to cost an arm and a leg to renew, so check around for the best option to reduce the cost. But we really need those two luxuries. After the Byzantines, the Dutch are probably still next on our hit list. They have our Lighthouse after all.

Additionally we've had a lot of discussion about our FP. Check back a page or two in the thread and take your pick if you decide to start the build.

Good luck!
