The Story of Wang Kon
---------------------------------------

Wang Kon had a dream. It was of a vast blue body of water. he dreamed of reaching out and touching it, and of sailing magestically over its calm waters. His village had no ocean. Just a small pond, much to small to sail on. He dreamed of reaching this grand ocean. He told his fellow villagers about what he had dreamt, and the crowd buzzed with excitement. Could such a magnificent thing really exist? Wang Kon talked of a grand voyage to find this place, if it really existed. The villagers gave it no second thought. They were all for it.

The next morning, at the crack of dawn, the village was already awakened. They had spent the entire night gathering their things, preparing to migrate to a new land, in search of the ocean. By noon of that very morning, the village had been taken apart, and the journey had begun. Over hilltops, through valleys, across rivers, and among forests, they searched and searched, yet could find nothing. Frustrated, the people set up camp for the night. Wang Kon decided he needed some time to himself. He climbed up a nearby hill, and upon reaching the crest, he was shocked at what he saw. A vast field of blue, stretching as far as the eyes could see. In an excited frenzy, he rushed down the hill, yelling and screaming, awakening all the other villagers. He told them he had seen it, the ocean. A cry of excitement filled the air. They partyed the entire night, and well into the morning, as this was a truly momentus occation.

The next morning, Wang Kon, and a small group of village elders meet. They discussed the fate of the small group of Korean settlers. After much debate, it was decided that this would be their new home, and they would call it Seoul. They would build their city on this site, and when time came to build a new city once this one became crowded, a settling party would be sent to the coast to construct a new site, named Pyongyang, where the citizens could fish and play in the ocean all day long. Wang Kon’s dream had been fulfilled, he had found the ocean.

Found Seoul, it wouln’t be on the coast, as the site is better where it is.

On to Pyongyang!

You're up -0blivion-.

Great starting position and good choice to build Seoul inland. Once that granary is finished that should be a good settler factory.

Pyongyang site? S or SW? I don't have any particular thoughts on it either way, my only desire is to grab that chokepoint. This in all probability will mean a waste of the whales, but that's too good a spot to miss.

All in, nice start. Shame about the huts though. Might we consider upping the science to 100%. If we go writing -> philosophy, chances are we'd be able to get Map Making as the free tech. Mind you, our current rules say beeline to MM, so I'll have to overrule myself :crazyeye:

Here is what I think for early settling.

dmap.jpg

The red square has the potential to be a good production city. While the blue site will clog the chokepoint and if there is a civ in the south, then it would stop if from settling too far north.

Also, we must research Map Making after we finish Writing, even before Philosophy. Luckily we started off with Bronze Working and Alphabet, as those two both have seafaring connections, allowing us to start on Pottery and get a settler factory going.

The starting position is very good, we'll easily claim the whole island fast.

Be sure to irrigate the that wheat, because we want to be able
to grow 5 food per turn for our settler factory.

Also, I think we should have cities packed togther tightly, because given that this map is mostly island, we are given limited land amount.

So, I say we should move the red dot up 1 north,
and the blue dot 2NW.

I thought about moving the choke dot too but then remembered that having the city there would enable ships to get from E to W sides of the continent through the city there. I would highly recommend settling the 1 tile choke for your variant.

Oooh, that's right. I totally forgot about the "Panama Canal" city.
Forget what I said about moving the blue dot. It's a great spot.
Maybe we can build another city between the captial and the blue dot, because it'll have about 2-3 grasslands free.

I was thinking about this kind of map. Because we don't know how big our island is, I think it kinda important to pack the cities quite tightly.

I don't have any grand plans for the chokepoint other than that it serves as a Panama City.

Here is one I made with a tight build.

Moved the red dot up one, the purple dot gives us access to whales, blue gives us a canal, and cyan uses the free grassland

I like the look of that one, because, as I said, it's not a problem if the Choke point is overlapped heavily by other cities, since its primary use is that of Panama City.

And the majority of the tiles are plains and coasts. Only one grassland. This city isn't designed to be a really productive one.

Fellow Koreans,

just a thought, but, since we're Koreans AND will soon be Lords of the Ocean, a nice flavour thing would be to use the excellent Oriental ship graphics, available here:

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=55082

This is specifically the address for the Treasure Ship, but on Post#7 there are links to the other oriental ship graphics available.

Junk -> Galley

Korean Turtle Ship (Yippee!) -> Caravel

Treasure Ship -> Galleon

Tongkang -> Frigate

No unit for Curraghs though.

:lol: You are really getting into this Balastulin. I am downloading them right now. :D

What can I say? I'm Industrious and Scientific :D

On the junk download there's a good tutorial on how to put these graphics into your system (though Gogf might not need help on this one.)

Thanks to Aaglo, pdescobar, TVA22 and Embryodead for their beautiful graphics :goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob:

Another city that looks good to settle is NW of our capital.
It'll include the banana jungle, a gold mountain, and two bonus grassland. It's also a coastal city! Who knows, we might be lucky enought to find a nearby fish bonus!

We desperately need to explore to discover what lies east of our capital, because it'll probably be another good spot to settle on.

Just a note, there is a barb fortified near those bananas.

Also, Gogf isn't the only one who knows how to mod. :p
