SuBI1 - Masters of the high seas

I say we use the red dot on my dotmap on the previous page as the worker factory. It has plenty of food, 2 BG for production, and it is close to the capital, so it has less corruption.

Temples are 80 shields :(

In Monarchy, we have 2 contents citizens, 2 MP. Now, we can have size 4 city without bickering. I'm thinking we can raise the luxury 20% temporarily to produce 2 happy faces. But after the settler is created, it'll drop back down to 4. We won't be needing the luxury anymore. We can raise/drop luxury rate back and forth.

It would be pointless, whipping would cause an unhappy person. Then the temple would then counter that. We already have a palace generating 2 culture per turn.

Each pop is 20 shields (it's not 40 shield for the 1st pop anymore in Conquest). Personally, I think whipping has its uses on badly corrupted cities on floodplains.

Just my thoughts.

(I've almost never whipped anyone other than badly corrupted cites on floodplains in my game)

I have a feeling it only lasts until the person is replaced, i.e. a new citizen grows, which wouldn't be a problem with Seoul...

Anyways, I reckon a nice 4turn settler factory either with MP's or temple would be a great boon for our great nation.

Per shoguntaka's comments, don't we get a shield in the city square? That would give us 2 per bg, 2 for the cow and 1 for the city for 7 total. On growth we get 2 extra from the forest I believe. That gives us the 4-turn I think.

As for the Lighthouse. Should we build that in Pyongyang or in Wonsan? Pyongyang is a lousy production location at least until we get out of Despotism or it grows. Wonsan (if we assume Wonsan is the location east of Seoul) at least has a couple BG's and some woods, which will help speed us toward the Lighthouse.

I think that Wonsan should pursue the Lighthouse, while Pyongyang works on the military, and Seoul is our settler factory.

SpikeIt:

Yes, we do get a shield from the city radius.

But we want to grow 5 food per turn,
meaning that we will have to use the irrigated wheatland (it offers no shield).

You are correct. The effect from whipping lasts for 20 turns.
Now, get back to building Imperial Master Wang Kon's palace! :whipped::whipped::whipped:;)

I've done some testing -- It seems that, in Depotism, the maximum population you can whip is 2. Meaning if you want to whip the temple, you would have to build 20 shields prior to that.

I could be wrong.

Good thinking re: Lighthouse. Get Wonsan on the case. Pyongyang is renowned as a rough and tumble kind of place full of vagabonds and ne'erdowells. Hardly the kind of people we want building the beacon of hope for our fair race.

Wow, I missed a lot... I couldn't come on the computer yestarday afternoon for more than about ten minutes (sorry), did I miss anything important?

shoguntaka:

Right. 5 food. Correct me if I'm calculating incorrectly. At size 4:
2 mined bgs - 4 shields
1 mined cow - 2 shield, +1 excess food
1 irrigated wheat - +2 excess food
city square - 1 shield, +2 excess food
-------
7 shields, 5 food

Turn 2 - growing to size 5 at turn end:
2 mined bgs - 4 shields
1 mined cow - 2 shield, +1 excess food
1 irrigated wheat - +2 excess food
city square - 1 shield, +2 excess food
Growth put to work forest for +2 shields
--------------
9 shields (16 total) 10 food total

Turn 3 (size 5) - move cit from forest to grass
2 mined bgs - 4 shields
1 mined cow - 2 shield, +1 excess food
1 irrigated wheat - +2 excess food
1 grass - nada
city square - 1 shield, +2 excess food
7 shields (total 23), 15 total food.

Turn 4( size 5 - grow and pop settler at end)
2 mined bgs - 4 shields
1 mined cow - 2 shield, +1 excess food
1 irrigated wheat - +2 excess food
1 grass - nada
city square - 1 shield, +2 excess food
forest on growth - +2 shields
----------------------------
9 shields (32 total), 20 food - pop settler and start again.

I think this is right if I'm reading Bamspeady's article correctly in the war academy. :D

Yes, yes, SuperBeaver. A fine shag carpet should please Imperial Master Kon, yes? Probably tonight....

SpikeIt:

Wow.

I never knew that when a new citizen is is added and is working on the forest, it gives you 2 "free" shields.

But, I'm concerned about that article, it was for the old vanilla Civlization III. Maybe it has been changed in Conquests? Let me know if it still gives you 2 "free" shield.

shoguntaka:
Yeah, kind of bizarre, but I doubt its changed in Conquests. Anyhow, I didn't get a chance to put this into practice because of potential unrest, and our bonus grass had yet to be mined. That will be for the next ruler...

Warrior SpikeIt, serving as the lone garrison in Seoul, decided to check what was brewing in the stone palace Wang Kon had built. SpikeIt wasn't happy with its shoddy construction or obvious lack of sea worthiness, but still respected it as the seat of power. Expecting to see Wang Kon and Admiral Balastulin drafting plans for the expansion of the Korean empire (if only the Korean people knew how to write), SpikeIt instead was greeted by an empty hall. SpikeIt, being bored that nothing ever happens in Seoul, decided to sneak into the hall and sit in the granite chair that
symbolized the leader and power of the Korean people. Just for a quick moment, he thought.

A few moments later, one of Wang Kon's advisors appeared from a back entrance and approached SpikeIt. "What shall you have us do my master?" SpikeIt, confused as to why this fellow was asking him, and half expecting a garrison to rush in and take him away suddenly realized that he was the garrison. Deciding to respond quickly before this advisor woke out of his obviously drunken stupor, SpikeIt began issuing commands. ..

[0] 2550BC Well okay, SpikeIt took few decades to warm to the task. Nada going on...
[1] 2510BC Slow growth in Seoul a bit. Granary in 1.
[2] 2470BC Granary completed in Seoul. Start settler.
[3] 2430BC Worker completes road, starts to mine bonus grass. Explorer shows some land jutting to the east.
[4] 2390BC Explorer sees land only jut out a tile or two. A couple fish in range though. Have to increase lux rate to keep Seoul happy as its size 4. Pyongyang is using wheat currently.
[5] 2350 BC Hmmm. Nope.
[6] 2310 BC Pyongyang growth and Curragh in 1.
[7] 2270 BC Pyongyang completes Curragh. Starts warrior. Up lux again to keep Pyongyang happy, but tech unaffected now. Settler and growth due in 1 in Seoul. Curragh exploring.
[8] 2230 BC Settler produced will move to place Wonsan. Decide to produce worker first in Seoul. We need another, then will start settler. Lux rate dialed back.
[9] 2190 BC Mine completed. Seoul will grow and push worker next turn.
[10] 2150 BC Seoul completes worker -> settler. Our settler moves onto red dot site and... more land to the east! Worker completes mine, moves to mine other bg. New worker heads to mine bg next to Wonsan site. Pyongyang is still on hold for growth, with a tax collector in place. Leaving lux rate at zero. Curragh explores north.

A few centuries later, SpikeIt, fat and happy is suddenly surprised when Wang Kon walks through the great hall's front entrance. Expecting the worst, SpikeIt stands suddenly. But Wang just nervously smiles sweatly and idles around to his throne. Afterall, SpikeIt is the only person with a pointy stick. SpikeIt comes to attention for his lord and master, and then promptly leaves to halls to see what's playing at the local cinema.

Oh yeah, A Korean Tale
