SuBI1 - Masters of the high seas

Alright, I got it.

The Story of Wang Kon - Chapter 5 - The Colossus
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wang Kon wanted to build something to commerate his peoples rise to greatness. Something grand. Something unique. That night he drew up plans for a wonderous monument. It was 55 meters tall, made of bronze, and would stand over the harbour of Pyongyang. The next morning, he sent his plans to the mayor of Pyongyang, and ordered him to begin contruction immediatly. Wang Kon was pleased when he realized that yet another dream would be fulfilled...or would it. That night, Wang Kon had another dream. But this dream didn't tell of a wonderous event in the history of the great Korean people. Instead it was an omen. He had a dream of strange people, dressed in clothes that he did not recongnize as a local tribe. They were building something. They were building his grand monument! He awoke, and immediately dispatched orders to the mayor of Pyongyang, to halt production. He told him that this monument was not fit for the Korean people, as it had to be unique. As puzzling as this sounded to the mayor, he was forced to comply, unless he wanted to join SpikeIt clearing the marshes. Instead, he was to build something new, he was to build a giant lighthouse, that would loom over the city.

Wow, you guys have another 1 tile choke point / panama city over ther to rule the seas with! Lucky map for this variant.

Looks like a lot of workers will be needed too.

Yes very lucky, except for the jungle.

Dang! I was sort of hoping I could get some help clearing out this mosquito infested swamp! :p

Nice turns. How dare the Portuguese take our Collosus! It took two techs including writing to get the wheel? Ouch. A bit pricey for a first tier tech. And even worse, there are no horses to be found! But, what is that I spy in my swamps? I see spices! Woohoo. Some lux at last. Maybe a city spot on the west coast just south of the next banana north of Pusan. On growth it will nab some spices and the fish. Sure its in the swamps and jungle, but its coastal. Heck, I'd even be willing to let it be called "SpikeIt's Home".

Anyways, good job. Now we just have to figure out how we are going to build our lighthouse, with minimal production cities. This could be tough.

Pyongyang is prebuilding for the Lighthouse with a temple. Map Making should finish 3 turns before the Temple.

Also, the settler is currently heading towards the spices. I was thinking of having it settle one tile north of them, so that it has direct access to spices and bananas. And calling it SpikeIt's Home sounds like a good idea. And don't worry, I am sure that someone will eventually join you in the marshlands. If we don't get the Lighthouse, then I'll send Pyongyang's mayor to help you.

-0blivion-: Make sure you micromanage Pyongyang to make sure that the Temple does not finish. Map Making will probably only beat it by a turn or two, so good micromanagement is essential if we want those shields for the Lighthouse.

Looks good -0blivion-. I could have sworn I already traded for the Wheel.

Wow! Two wheels! Now we can make a bike. Whee! :crazyeye:

Nice trade for Map Making. :goodjob: Hopefully we made the rounds with the other civs to see if they had anything to grab with it too. Well, its out there now. Hopefully Pyongyang can out race the other civs to the Lighthouse. The good thing about Conquests it seems, is that if you are building for a wonder, even if its taken, you are bound to pick up another in the Ancient Age. And then we would just have to go take our Lighthouse. :hammer:

So, what are the chances we can grab Philosophy first for the extra tech?

I think we have a decent chance of researchin the Philosophy first. But it's a possibility that the Spanish might discover it before us.

I'm thinking about launching a sea invasion on the Byzantines. We want the whole island to ourself. If we got the Lighthouse and galleys. Then the galleys will move 4 tiles a turn, and that's even faster than roaded tiles. And I'm positive that Constantinople (the capital of Byzantine) will be coastal city. We can, one turn, unload about 16 units right next to Constantinople.

Also, we can try to claim that free dye near those spanish cities.

Seafaring civs always start next to the ocean.

1200 End of turn.

Things I've noticed. We have three cities which are not on the coast. Hyangsan I can understand because of the jungles, etc, but Jeju should have been placed on the coast. I apologise hence, but am building a settler to move Jeju one square East. and place the current settler in the middle.

Got it. I probably won't be able to play until tomorrow night, so everyone chime in on our position and on Balastulins moves. I don't have time to comment right now. Maybe I'll get some free time tonight to look at this and maybe play it...

This is a truly novel idea, I think it will turn out to be a very exciting game, and outpacing all those seafaring civs on their own territory will be a challenge.

Okay, I'm unsure of what anyone else is thinking, but I think we are investing a bit too much effort in settling and clearing marsh and jungle. We are trying to settle a lot of cities in land that won't be usable for many, many centuries, and not much of it is very productive. I'll settle the settler Balastulin set in motion at the double deer spot, but beyond that, I'm holding off settling any more for a bit. We are opening ourselves up for disease, and we are tight on workers. I can't imagine the Byz settling the jungle except for possibly the double spice location.

As for iron island, I'll try and make it, but the galley is a bit roughed up. That's going to be a tough spot to hold being so far north and within striking distance of both the Byzantines and the Dutch. Not to mention its basically a tundra rock. I think we should look to settle our southern tip a bit because 1) the land is a bit more productive - hills! and 2) we don't want someone else settling there giving us a couple fronts. Plus we can get the land working faster as there is no swamp! Clearing swamp has made SpikeIt grumpy. We do need to get some irrigation to The Korean Panama so we can bring it south. Also, I think we need to settle the island to our east with the iron, horses, etc. Not a bad location, despite the lack of rivers.

Any other thoughts. I may get started tonight, but will definitely not finish until tomorrow night, so opinions are encouraged!
