Suggestions and Requests

Yeah, I noticed too that they are too weak now.

Is it possible to make the copper at Kalhu appear only after the Persian spawn? For human controlled Persia it is impossible to conquer Babylonia with any spearmen or light swordsmen. It seems pointless to me that the human player needs to roll new starts every time they plays as Persia.

Did unique units that replace mounted units get adapted to the new changes?

By the way, I got an idea: The same way there are random events that could create free Academies, there should be some that could create Museums, Manufactories, and Stock Exchanges.

I think not, Chang Suek Thai UU is still 10:strength: as lancer replacement. Overall I think that some changes to UU are necessary since new tech tree.

Yes, all UUs have been adjusted. Chang Suek never had the lower strength or open terrain modifier deal.

Huh, but that means it gains 2:strength:, +50% vs heavy cav, +50% attack vs arquebus and musket for price of only +25% open terrain attack. Isn't that bit to powerful?

It did not gain these benefits just now. That has always been their ability.

I think extending Argentine's UP and making ggs act like great statesman would be a nice change, and would be more versatile. I think juntas actual purpose better fits for rapid civic changing or ending anarchy, rather than starting golden ages.

...No? It was previously Knight replacement in 1.14. Knight was 10:strength: so was Chang Suek. In current build lancer is knight equivalent and its 8:strength: while Thai UU is still 10:strength:.

Initially, Lancer had strength 10, so had Chang Suek. It also had all of its current additional abilities. When I changed Lancers to strength 8 plus open terrain attack (which has been reverted now), I kept Chang Suek at strength 10 without open terrain attack because there's not a lot of open terrain in Thailand to benefit from, and being an elephant it didn't make a lot of sense. So they didn't make the change and consequently weren't affection by its reversion.

Why does Frankfurt flip to Prussia on spawn? Shouldn't Southern Germany remain in the Austrian sphere of influence? Prussia already starts w pretty substantial army and is super advanced. I think it should have to defeat Austria in order to unite Germany.

Yes, I want to change that at some point. But not before release.

If Prussia only get Berlin and Konigsburg in 1700, it will be too weak. In fact France also didn't get New Orleans in 1700ad, it was built in 1718ad.

New ability for great statesman: Making claim on a city. Effect: Making the city go into celebration and the tile turns historical for the civilization.

That sounds really cool, though there's an argument to be had in it making SE even stronger than it already is compared to CE.

Would you stop making everything about SE vs CE already? I can understand the rationale behind general specialists stuff, but this would be a really trivial buff.

Actually I've only been saying this stuff because I know there's a specific other person who'll say it if I don't. I don't care at all how powerful SE is compared to CE. All I want is for trade to become an economy

EDIT: You know, I think this is a case of Poe's Law.

I feel like the soundtrack and diplomacy music could be improved in several cases.

The most obvious instance to me is Macdonald and Trudeau, which for some reason use the Viking diplomusic. Not only is it un-Canadian, it is also rather unpleasant to the ear. (Isn't it?) I suggest replacing it with the Canadian national anthem, of which there is a rather good (and public domain) version here.

Speaking of the Viking diplomusic, I think it is also inappropriate for later Scandinavian leaders (Gustav Vasa and Gerhardsen). I suggest replacing it with the praeludium from Grieg's Holberg Suite (first 2:30 or 2:40 of the complete suite, depending on the recording; ignore the recorder ensemble version, it's rather weird).

There are a couple more things I would change in the diplomacy music, but I want to move on to my main suggestion: Add a new soundtrack for the Global Era. As of now, both the Global and the Digital Eras use the same original Civ IV soundtrack made of John Adams' minimalist music (which I love, by the way). However, this music has a futuristic feel to it that doesn't quite fit the early 20th century; moreover, Adams composed it mostly in the 1970s-80s, which would correspond to the early Digital Era. I also think that changes in soundtrack are the most salient way in which the game indicates passage to a new age (provided you play with sound on), and considering that the Global and Digital era lack aesthetic differences in general, music would be a good distinguishing feature.

I propose that we create a new soundtrack using music by post-Romantic classical composers from the early 20th century. One issue is copyright status, as some of the composers that would be worthy of inclusion are off-limits due to dying after 1947. But that leaves quite a few who did die early enough. I'm thinking Debussy, Ravel, Gershwin, Respighi, Satie, Bartók, Rachmaninoff, Holst.

The best way to do this would probably be to update the optional soundtrack module. (The diplomusic suggestions above should probably be in the base mod, though.)

I am willing to do research into finding appropriate tracks, and I can start a thread to collect and discuss suggestions. Eventually I can prepare a pull request (though I will most likely need a bit of technical help regarding which files to edit, etc.). However, I first need to know if Leoreth thinks it's a good idea. And if so, what are your criteria for the inclusion of a track, in terms of copyright status (is creative commons ok?), length, and aesthetic qualities?

...Great person actions have nothing to do with economy. You do understand that in civ4 economy means specific way that you gain :science:/:gold:?

A specialist economy uses specialists. Specialists lead to Great Whatevers. Buffing Great Whatevers thus buffs specialist economies.

Though personally, I would largely ignore this consideration.
