Suggestions and Requests

...Great person actions have nothing to do with economy. You do understand that in civ4 economy means specific way that you gain :science:/:gold:?
Either way I don't care if it makes sense, if it involves specialists I'm memeing.

It would be a rather weak use of great person anyway, if it were to get implemented at all.

I am willing to do research into finding appropriate tracks, and I can start a thread to collect and discuss suggestions. Eventually I can prepare a pull request (though I will most likely need a bit of technical help regarding which files to edit, etc.). However, I first need to know if Leoreth thinks it's a good idea. And if so, what are your criteria for the inclusion of a track, in terms of copyright status (is creative commons ok?), length, and aesthetic qualities?
I definitely think this is a good idea. The main obstacle here is that I usually don't prioritise spending time to select music and put it into the mod. So any help here would speed this up significantly. Suggestions for music are already most of the way there. I don't really have specifications on the music itself, you know how the game currently uses music and how to fit into that I think. Of course you should not use anything that is currently still under copyright, but national anthems or early 20th century compositions should be clear of that.

You can choose whatever mechanism for including music you prefer. I can give you guidance on including it into the mod directly, but it's also not too much work for me to do it myself if you provide MP3s.

Should there be barbarian attacks in the eastern Med area to represent the sea people invasions that occurred between 1200-900 BC. These attacks had a significant impact in Greece, Crete, Turkey, Cyprus, the Levant and Egypt. A large amount of cities were destroyed and it may have contributed to the collapse of the Mycenae, Minoan and Hittite civilizations as well as significantly affecting the Phoenicians and Egyptians.

Honestly, the Global Era should probably composers like John Philip Sousa, and other marching band type things - that was the main style of classical musc from the time, although the earlier parts of the era should also include some late Romantic stuff like "Vesti la Giubba" by Leoncavallo. Beautiful aria.

Yeah the classical music from that period was terrible, which is why I actually really like the decision to use modern classical music.

By the way is Shostakovich in the public domain already?

Bc of US/USSR relations and the initial lack of recognition of Russian copyright by the US, for a long time Shostakovich was available in the public domain, but I am still very unsure as to whether any of his music is now is now after a quick google search. I would absolutely love if his music could be included though, it would make my day

Also another unrelated suggestion, but do the Mongols still spawn with bombards in the latest version? That always has bothered me, as the Mongols didn't use advanced siege technology until their initial failed attempts at battling the Khwarazmian Empire, after which they would have had torsion trebuchets (as opposed to Chinese traction trebuchets which I couldn't find if they used). They also deported siege engineers (among other scientists and such) to Karakorum as they expanded.

The Mongols still have bombards. I think with how combat works in the game it would hurt them to much not to have them, even with the UP.

I'm also willing to replace the digital era soundtrack if we can by the way. Something in the vein of the Offworld Trading Company soundtrack would be great.

Shostakovich is copyrighted and this is a fact that makes me sad.

The Offworld Trading Company soundtrack is great, but I would keep the John Adams soundtrack for the Digital Era—because it's really good, because the progression of classical music styles across eras is something I enjoy a lot, and because it might be hard to find non-copyrighted contemporary music.

I'll make a new thread so that the discussion can move there.

Too bad about Shostakovich. But yes, please go ahead with a new thread.

Capitalism is a cancer that ruins everything it touches.
It has touched you, and it has touched communism, and it has touched Marx, and Lenin, and Trotsky, and indeed, without capitalism, My Little Pony would probably have never existed.

Gaze into the abyss and come undone, capitalist-imperialist Knoedel.

Do I have to repeat myself in every thread? I don't think the optimal societal mode of production is immediately relevant to the topic at hand.

I do particularly like the Adams piece from Nixon In China, and I think it fits epic, world scale gameplay fairly well

It is getting hard to build a good infrastructure and have highly populated cities at the same time.

I build cities with 18 - 20 population, but corporations spread, unhealth from buildings is added, then those cities get reduced to 15 - 17 population, and there is no way to counter arrest that unhealthiness.

I know it is meant to represent pollution but gameplay-wise it is very counterproductive. In real life, many of the most populated cities are very polluted.
