RE Varietas, I'll check now - just read something about them not working with the SVN so hadn't tried, but if you've done Polynesia I'll give it a go.

That's just general advice of caution that you shouldn't expect it to work, because I can't always pay attention to everything that can break compatibility and so I'm safe when people complain

Canada and Polynesia were obvious points where compatibility needed to be restored and the fix was easy, so I quickly adjusted the module each time.

I tried this myself before, France usually tries to invade it. Even if it's heavily defended they will usually throw a large number of troops at it at some point.

Would that be a problem or a feature in your opinion? It could be historical terrain for Spain and HRE and yes France or even England will attack, too. But I think it would be nice to have anything else to fight for except Italy in Medieval/Renaissance.

I think the current SVN/Varietas problem is related to the new Great Statesmen tags.

Set a previous SVN revision, before the introduction of statesman, install VD, then update. I had the same issue when I tried to reinstall the mod with VD feature few days ago.

Given that I've been running VD since base 1.12, and I haven't had any compatibility issues since the patches for the addition of Canada and Polynesia were created, I'm going to assume that it works.

I think we should add more minimalist music to the modern era/future era. Maybe we could add some Philip Glass or Steve Reich to the Future Era to differentiate them?

Also, we should add Venice.

It would be nice if there were more medieval wars in Europe, and having an independent Amsterdam would be interesting. It would be hard to make it so that it didn't just become another city for France, though.

Being part of the HRE would not be historically inaccurate, but they don't exactly lack land right now.

If it would be independent, it would often become part of the HRE or France. (As written before I would say historic for HRE and Spain.) But I think it would be no problem at all. HRE never lacks powerful enemies (Vikings, Russia, France, Turks) and France could need a boost to be up to its historic role. I rarley see a strong France building a real colonial empire. One of the reasons I suggested adding Brest (see some posts above).

The other Reason for adding Brest would be to drag England in medieval/renaissance wars. But as long as the AI rarely uses naval transports to attack another landmass, this will be hard.

For England the vikings should be more involved with them. At least with 600 AD the vikings have a preference for invading Germany, probably due to the proximity of Denmark.
