Suggestions and Requests

Why? Not that it doesn't sound original, but what would that be emulating, exactly?
Just a little something for you to chew on.

Ah... :)

I think it's time to head to the dessert table.

Wouldn't it make sense for newly founded cities to get a religion automatically if the city they were built in had it and/or it's the state religion? Like when Russia makes a major landgrab in Siberia, am I supposed to believe that it was exclusively pagans and/or atheists/agnostics who colonized it?

FFH2 can assign religions to units. Maybe do that with settlers?

Why stop there?

Assign religions to every unit. Units are more likely to desert if the spawning civ has their religion as state religion. Maybe units should get combat boni for fighting units of a different faith and combat mali for fighting units of the same faith.

...

Logic. How does it work?

Headbutt the nearest wall a few times. It'll boot up.

Historically, I don't think soldiers have had any trouble fighting against people of the same religion as them. Sometimes it has made the civilians of their nations unhappy, however.

I think that the spreading of religion by missionaries represents the active effort to bring organized religion, religious social structure, religious law, etc to new cities. While historically settlers may have been individually religious they were often cut off from the religious institutions and communities of the homeland. They also often formed syncretic religious traditions with the local populations which weren't strictly connected to the main branch of religion. Sure religion institutions could develop naturally without much input from the religious center but it takes time without a concerted effort. I think this is well-reflected in the current structure of the game.

EDIT: That said, I am intrigued by the idea of assigning religions to settlers or maybe other units. Depending on how much influence a certain religion has in your civilization settlers could come out one religion or another by chance which would greatly influence the future religion of the newly settled territory without the influence of missionaries. Many of the settlers in the New World belonged to persecuted religious groups. Jewish and Muslims in Iberia, Protestants in Northern Europe, etc.

Yeah, even though I wasn't serious, it would be a cool effect for a late game wonder.

make pagan religions and its wonder tied. i'm tired of seeing the babylon built the oracle or pyramid all the time

There are no Pagan religions.

There are no Pagan religions.
To clarify, pagan religions do not function as religions in the game. Don't know why Leoreth didn't say that.

They are purely flavour, and function at the level of the civilization. The suggestion could be accomplished by limiting religions to civs, but that seems very restrictive, and doesn't solve the cause of the problem.

No, there just aren't pagan religions in the game. All we have are civ specific names and art for having no state religion.

Thanks, tried to look some up but didn't get very far. I'll include them in the turks branch for simplicity.
