Not to long ago I remember reading the newspaper "The Observer"; In the newspaper there was a piece about Black Americans suing the American governments and companies that were around 150 years ago for the Slave trade. I can't remember the amount, but it was huge figure. I also read to my amazement that the same group who want to sue in America might try to sue other former slave owning nations; Like Britain, Portugal, Spain, France, etc.. I think this was supported by the racist organisation, "The Nation of Islam".
I found absolutely a dreadful idea, as it opens a whole pandora's box of law. Giving that every nation/civilisation/empire has practiced slavery in some shape or form. The word "slave" actually comes from the word "Slav", as before the African slaves, Eastern Europe was a common place for slaves to come from.
I also found it stupid as ultimately the tax payer will have to pay. Giving that every legal national/civilian/subject has to pay tax ultimately they're taxing themselves. Also what about people recently moved there after slavery was abolished? What about people who's ancestors were exclusively Working Class, so they couldn't afford to own slaves?
Another reason I found it stupid was, that if the Nation of Islam was supporting the legal action then it is a little hypocritical as it took the British to abolish slavery in their holy land in 1919. Before then the Imam's of Arabia were supporting slavery.
Is this stupid, STUPID idea still going ahead?
