Suleiman's Harem

I liked the A-Team! It was a cult classic!

I couldn't stand it, but my roommates loved it. So, I ended up laughing and making fun of the interspersed WW2 footage and utterly-obvious stunt doubles.

I'm more of a Battlestar Galactica fan now...not the old show, but the new one. It's the only television series that I have followed in awhile. Besides the Daily Show and Colbert Report.

Crikey, those stunt doubles were obvious weren't they?

I don't really watch TV that much anymore... but I do make a point of watching Prison Break when its on. :D

Wow! I know it's late, but I just found this thread thanks to someone's signature (who knew sigs were actually useful?). Bravo! Not only did I laugh my BLEEP off, but I even learned a thing or two. Thanks for doing this!

Signatures are always useful, sometimes it's like with Wiki, you'll never know where you'll find yourself. ;)

You should add links in yours, RTC87. Do not hesitate to ask (via pm if you want) if you don't know how...

Anybody know where he found all his little cartoon leaders?
He drew them, if I understood correctly.
ROFL. How did you create those drawings of the Leaders? :groucho:

Yes, I draw them.
How?
First, I pencil sketch them, then, I ink the drawings.
The Gilgamesh' Court drawings were inkied with a Staedtler Mars Graphic 3000 Duo fat brush-tip pen (which explains the less detailed fatter lines), and the Suleiman's Harem drawings were inked with a Pigma Micron 03 & Pigma Micron 005 graphic pens, and a Faber-Castell brush-tip pen (that I am now in love with), thus explaining the greater detail.
The original size of all drawings is roughly 5 inches tall X 3 inches wide.
Finally, they're scanned and rapidly colored in Photoshop. I don't bother shading them since they end up being resized so small. Furthermore, I'd have to raise the gif resolutions of said drawings if they were shaded.

I started a few games since Suleiman's Harem, though I didn't finish any of them. Most ended up too similar to either one of the two previous stories for my tastes.

I almost had something when my best friend visited for the week-end (he lives 3 hours away).
We played a hot-seat game and took plenty of screenshots, however, we didn't have the time to finish it.
He, with WvO (he's a Financial whore) not only had a superb starting location, but he greatly stunted his two neighbor's (Louis & Gilgamesh) growth with strategic city placings, rapidly letting him dominate the game in terms of power and score.
As for myself, as Pacal II, I got stuck in tundra to the south. I did end up having one flood plains city for commerce, but I barly had any production tile anywhere. That enabled one neighbor of mine (Zara) to spam the continent to Toku and Justinian's dismay, as well as my own. My production was so bad that even if all I was building were military stuff, Toku or Zara could still wipe me off the map easily. I was fine with the situation since everyone loves an underdog story, lol.
But unfortunately, we ran out of time somewhere in the middle-ages and couldn't finish the game. Besides, it felt like we were cheating since we could always maintain an easy tech lead by splitting research duties.

So, in an attempt to do things differently, I have decided that the next game/story will not be played in advance.
I'll lose power of hindsight, which has enabled me to set-up a few jokes in previous games/stories. However, it'll add extra interactivity, something many have been wishing for.

Your posts have been simply fantastic. In fact, I wish I could download them. Looking forward to being part of the peanut gallery on your next posted game.

Faber-Castell brush-tip pen (that I am now in love with)

First, lemme say that I love your stories. Second, Lemme comment on this. I'm an artist too, and I have a set of four F-C brush tip pens, and really haven't found them that great. I usually use my Rapidiograph pens for my ink drawings (Which are few and far between now that I fell in love with Oil paint!) and when I want a bold line I usually go for a old school dip pen. So, long question short, I'm curious about why you love the Faber-Castells. Any particular reason?

If it sounded like I'm being a jack-a$$ I don't mean too, just curious.

BTW, THE NEW STORY IS GREAT!!

Maybe it's a drawing-style thing.
I enjoy the F-C brush-tips for the line width control. Now granted, the F-C pens are pretty small, so the width differences are pretty subtle, and I still use finer Pigma Microns for smaller details.
However, I had major problems with just about all other brush-tip pens I ever tried, most especially Pigma Micron (they split after a few seconds of usage and suck very quickly, while the Staedtlers offer little control and don't last too long either).
On the other hand, using an actual brush and ink pretty much requires another technique - can't use those the same way you'd handle a pencil, otherwise you'll make something really fugly. I could learn, but I'm the type of dog that doesn't like new tricks.
So, to me, the F-C work great for all the rough inking job. Fine details, of course require anything from a 0.3 to a 0.05 pen. But for the main inking work, the F-C's have proved to be immense time savers for me. They handle similarly to a regular pen, and they last much, much longer.

It all depends on what you use it for, I guess. If you aim to ink with a lot of lines for shading, for instance, I really don't think it's appropriate. Rapidographs would do a much better job for sure.

Just preference I guess. I like putting alot of detail into a drawing so my rapidographs work great. Either way, your pictures are great, and I love the stories, keep it up man.

I have a question. In some of the screenshots that are shown, the workers and a few other units look different from the regular ones. Is this a mod or is it in Beyond the Sword:confused:  :D

Great story, you've added what I'm sure most of the men do and some of the females, the ogleling of the Female charaters, even if they are only cartoons..lol.......but the reloading of the game when a bad outcome ocurrs...

Though we try to play pure...yeah sure..

Funny story......especially loved the Nuking at the end and the rampant tech/money trading......

Good to see a story based on a level a lot more reverlent to most peoples playing level.

Nail bitting at the end, could you achieve that time victory, or gain that space race win......

Loved the charatures you did of the icons and personalities........lol

Very imformative about the Mayan culture....Nice to hear an informed voice, Look forward to reading Pacal's ball court..

Beyond the Sword.

Thanks for the info. The only bad thing is:

NOW I REALLY, REALLY WANT BEYOND THE SWORD:cry:      :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash:

Btw Flouzemaker. Best story so far. Although I aren't completely up to date on Pacal's (balls) court. That one could turn out to be better. Please update soon on that one.

I'm going to go comment on that thread (Wanders off wondering what to say)
