Oh, and I've never actually started a torrent seed before, but if anyone wants to start one, go right ahead.

Blast. The site's still down, and I haven't seen parts 4 through 7. Any idea when it'll be back up, Sulla?

If you get a chance, I would like to test the performance of a new web hosting company that offers 6x the bandwidth of the previous site. I FTP'd Sullla's HTML files to this new site. The URL is:

http://www.civ4info.com/Sullla/

By the way, the site is case sensitive. So, that has to be a capital S. Sorry.

Umm, wow. Wow. So, corwin is like, the man. :)

He paid some of his own money to upgrade his hosting to a much more robust server, then moved ALL of the files over there himself. That saved me an enormous amount of time. And now... the Walkthrough is back up at a new location. Without me doing squat!

As I said before - corwin is the man. Someone buy him a drink.

Updating the first post and my sig with the correct links now. (Also, I plan to move about half of the pictures in the Walkthrough over to the CivFanatics server to cut down on the bandwidth usage. You guys reading it won't notice any difference, but it will spread the traffic around so that the should shouldn't crash again. :D)

Here corwin have a drink on me  Great to see sulla's files back up. Thanks to you both!!

Just love your civ3 chronicles sulla me old chum, i'm learning so much from them :goodjob: ...

Thanks for the great work!!

edit: sorry... everything is fine... i just understood my error!

Now that we have the walkthrough posted again, how about creating another :-)

I'd love to see another game of yours presented in the same way. Perhaps this time even as detailed as a little table tracking build order for each city and research order throughout the game.

aaaargh! just realized you havn't put back the civ3 chronicles yet! must have skimmed over it too quickly ,oh well you can still have the drink :)

If you guys want, I can host it on my site civ4central.com. I don't have to pay any bandwidth bill as I work for the company that hosts the server. I guess it pays to work for a colo / hosting provider and every employee gets to hosts as many boxes as he/she likes.

Why don't you just ask him for his address and then go over and watch him play?
I've got an even better idea. How about he just gets the game himself. :D

Great article, Sulla! Incredibally helpful and informative :)!

I do have a question though. You said that you can have an unlimited number of golden ages, yet it needs to be triggered by at first two different types of great people, then three, etc. Doesn't that mean that you are limited by the number of different types of great people?

Back on 27 Oct Siran, while while clarifying some discussion on the pyramid wonder, brought forward some points on government civics. The note on Hereditary Rule vs Representation has me a little confused.

* Representation Happiness is redundant with Hereditary Rule (HR can actually be better), so it's only the research -- and if you have less than a few specialists, you lose more in Civics Upkeep than you make in science!

I understand that early in the game the research bonus is largely wasted. I'm confused as to his statement about upkeep costs. In my current game I have 5 cities. Rather then settle more cities I want to develop these 5 core cities as much as possible. So in my case, as I understand it I'm better off with Representation.

Representation
- low up keep
- +3 happiness in 5 largest cities (I only have 5)
- +3 science per specialist (which we agree is of limited value in the early game)

HR
- medium up keep
- military units increase happiness

So my read, pertaining to my 5 cities game is that it will cost me less to have more happiness in my 5 cities by going the Representation route, then by going the HR route.

I realise that Siran's statement was in the general sense of the game, and that in my particular case it may not apply. But the Civpedia, and the manual are rather vague on all of the + and - of the civics, and when someone of Siran's experience questions the value of representation, it makes me wonder if I made a mistake with my own line of thinking.

This walkthrough is great. Wish I'd read it before I tried a game. This is much more useful than the Tutorial in game or the Manual...

Representation has Low civics cost? Hmm. Then I was wrong on that point. (I still have a lot of clutter in my head as far as what I remember from various stages of development vs what is in the final release. I will get a few of the little details wrong now and then. :) )

At Low maintenance (not High) it's a better deal. ... Ah, I see that Police State is now the High maintenance Govt Civic. Well, don't take my word for anything, anyway. Check it for yourself. You may not always agree with my perspective.

Hey, I remember when Representation had "High" upkeep cost. It, um, also had a completely different function at that time too. Sirian is suffering from another "horse archer withdraw" moment here (to reference another issue that no one here will understand). :)
