Your name is Sultan Saladin, and you scratch your head.
What happened here..did we drink so much wine yesterday?
You walked through the streets of Ul'dah this morning, and everything feels..smaller.

You walk over to Al 'Kabor, your loyal Camel Rider Captain and companion.
He's sitting by a fireplace, looking tired.
yawmun sa ʾīd, friend. Hard work today?
Al'Kabor nods. We finished building a fine ship this morning, Freewind Rider.
I hope we can get contact with more traders via the river west.

You stare into the fire for some time, not talking much.
Are we still trading with Mr. Washington?
Al'Kabor shakes his head. He will not tell us where he gets his goods from.
We are in contact, but we need new routes. I think he will cooperate thou.

Take a look at this map, Sultan.
I marked some important locations, our scouts have been busy.
Blood..you have some vague memories of confrontations with wild tribes in the East.
Send no more scouts into this direction, Al'Kabor.
We have lost enough scouts, trying to understand those wild beastmen.

He nods. We also found a steep mountain path, but i did not send men there yet.
I thought it's more important scouting our close lands for useful resources.
You agree. War will come soon enough, i fear..you keep staring into the fire.
We need more friends. I hope we can find that "desert rose" you keep talking about.
Al'Kabor laughs.

Are you in the mood for something..unusual?
Then i have just the right map for you :)
Might be a bit too hard for you guys..but you can proof me wrong :D

There are some surprises, unusual "starting techs" + units and let's say adjusted AIs. Can you lead Sultan Sally out of his desert, or will the blazing sun be too much?

Nice! 5 more days and then I'll probably play this. :whew:

I wanted to play a game with Saladin in any case as I was shocked to see him listed as one of the worst leaders in the game in some other thread. Now I won't have to make a thread of my own. :)

Gmorning, i noticed Camel Archers are too strong at start..
i should really playtest maps under real conditions :)

Here's a new starting save, sorry if you already tried the old one.
This should proof more challenging.

(of course i would still be happy to see what you did with the old save, if you have a game already ;)
i did take it off now thou)

Yeah, SPI leader with Solid UB and not starting with fishing. Can't really go worse...

Serious Edit:
But if you are not familiar with diplomacy in Civ4, then SPI is useless indeed.

to turn 51:

Spoiler :

Sent the camel to toku's southern territory planning to try to harass him if he wanted to settle his gems. He finally sent down a settler guarded by a crossbow and i declared war on him and won at 89% odds. I figure there's not much risk in declaring on him since we're naturally -5 so its only a matter of time before he sends a stack my way...

I scouted his city early and all i saw was a super promoted drill samurai unit and a few archers... I'm pretty sure my one combat II camel archer will have good odds vs that in the field, since he's immune to first strikes... will whip more soon. Not sure what techs he has, but he has machinery and iron working at least...

i pillaged his iron, not sure if he has another iron...

too bad hatty won't trade me math yet...

ok then (turn 64):

Spoiler :

I don't have enough camels for this :D ... maybe he has other cities that will be easier to take...

lol Nate
Spoiler :
i should have known "blood" only encourages peoples..Tokuuu you disappoint me.
(He also had C3 Samurai at start) Maybe my other surprises will give you more scares..;)

turn 65:

Spoiler :

Fippy, you're clever making these maps, but the AI is too stupid to implement your cleverness. :D Time for an epic battle...

(Results of battle: Camels: 3 victories. Samurais: 1 victories. Ties: 1 (camel withdrew). )

update 225 bc:

Spoiler :

I'm completely bogged down, LOL. he has tooooo many units. At this rate by the time i take kyoto hatty will have won a cultural victory. Might have to restart and try to not get into a war until construction...

@nate
Spoiler :
If you sent your missionary to Hatty she wiuld have been Friendly. In my game I also captured 2 cities fron Toku and gave them to Hatty and those were safe havens for camel archer who got to march promotion and non stop harass and pillage. Anyway Toku never saw ADs. Plan is the conquest.

yeah -

Spoiler :
I attacked Toku very early and used him as worker and XP farm. Snipe his metals and then kill off all the advanced unit as he will move them around. oh, and pillage gold, ofc

ugh..great idea to feed those cities to Hatty. why didn't i think of that instead of razing them.

the morale promos on those Sams/Berzerks were the most annoying (evil My ;) )

I will pick somebody more capable than Toku next time
But it's not thought as map for super players like Shaka only :)

My thought was (read if you met more AIs, you would know who ;))
Spoiler :
If Toku and Rags hold well, super Isa and Justi could become a real problem with their better Riders. In my test games they took the barb city around turn 80, with nice stacks already

Finished! Capping everyone required a bit of creativity. :)

LOL, I'm about to get punished for my hubris.

Spoiler :

I really focused on setting up my own economy and all early on in this one. I did capture two of Toku's southern cities and razed another, but i didn't try to go all-out Camel Archer war on him. Eventually i took peace for a couple tech and some gold. He peace vassaled to Ragnar shortly after that...

I just got MT Lib around 500 AD but Ragnar had been plotting for awhile and there really wasn't much i could do except hope he waited a little longer. He didn't. He declared the same turn i got Lib, I'm 4T away from GP and he has a stack at one of my captured Japanese cities that has like 1 billion cats and trebs in it (only a slight exaggeration).

I'm basically just going to have to abandon both of those cities and evacuate as many units/workers as possible. I think i have 10 or so CAs and ~4 workers over there. The real problem is that i was about to settle the iron over there... I don't access to my save file atm, but when i get home i need to see if i can trade for some iron for a few turns until i get this sorted out. It's going to be interesting. Things were going so well too... game was feeling wayyyy too easy.

Bit surpised nobody mentions the other surprise i built in lol, in my test games esp. with Izuul mentioning 500AD already i had other troubles coming ;)

I guess you can never rely on AIs doing what you want :)
I gave nice help (what you probably mean with easy) cause i did count on that part a bit.

It's okay overall thou, my next map can be something really difficult.
We do not have many active deity players (those who win 80% or even more) here atm thou, so not sure there is much demand?
