Summer 2017 Patch Notes Discussion

LOL I'm at 1050BC and Gandhi tells me Nuclear Weaponry is the future. This is beyond silly Firaxis, I never got this before the patch.
I just got this from Cyrus in 2250 BC. What is that all about?

EDIT: AND I have a -6 relationship penalty with Persia as the dislike civs who proliferate nuclear weapons... in 1900 BCE!

Some people have to actually go in and unsubscribe rather than just disable. Others have to actually find and delete the cache.
They have no responsibility for third party mods, but they are responsible for whatever bug prevents the "disable" setting from actually disabling all effects of a mod.
which specific mods required to unsubscribe rather than just disable ?

AFAIK there was only one (maybe a few other, but less than 5) because it was changing the main menu lua file and preventing access to the page where you can disable it.

I know for sure that none of my mods require to be unsubscribed, disabling them is enough (and AFAIK most are compatible anyway, or at least don't break the game), so I'm curious.

While I agree that there are some problems in the way Firaxis handle the modding part of the game, that specific issue couldn't be anticipated on their end, unless they limit some of the modding capabilities of the game, which noone want I hope.

I had to unsubscribe from CQUI; disabling it was not enough. Details below for the curious.

After the patch, I first tried a game doing nothing (defaulting to a handful of mods), and there were a variety of in-game issues (no surprise). So I disabled all mods, started a new game, and found that clicking on the notification sphere in the lower right did nothing. I don't recall if there were other issues. That wasn't a big deal (e.g., I could open the tech tree on my own to pick a new tech, click on the city to choose production, etc.) until I captured a city and couldn't choose whether to keep or raze. So I couldn't proceed to the next turn.

After reading that some mods required unsubscribing, I unsubscribed from CQUI on steam, loaded the stuck game, and it worked fine - clicking on the sphere brought up the box allowing me to choose whether to keep or raze the city. And since then, the button has worked as it's supposed to for all other actions, too. I'm now well on my way to the luftaballoons achievement with that game (finally having spied the continent of Nena).

Is anyone else not getting popups for tech and civic discoveries? I'm beginning to miss Sean Bean's voice.

I apologise if this was discussed later but I've only read the first ~ten pages.

What's with not getting pop ups for tech and civic discoveries?

Really annoying that you miss the chance to change policies.

I'm not sure if you were running into the issue I had, I didn't mention it on this thread. I had no mods running (and I don't get mods through steam so unsubscribe is not an issue for me), but in my previous conquest game I did have a few times where the option to keep or raze the city initially did not pop up, but when I hit the escape button, the greyed out screen went away, and the lit up game screen came back and I was able to choose to raze or keep the city. I haven't had any issues with that my current game, but I did delete that mods file mentioned earlier in this thread.

I'm actually running yet another map pack mod again since it was updated with Nubia's starting location. This doesn't seem to be causing any issues.

edit: QUESTION: Is anyone else noticing antiquity sites only seem to show up on unimproved tiles now? Is this something that was changed in the patch?

Another possible change with the patch (is it documented?), my religious victories over enemy apostle units don't seem to influence my neighbor (in this case Poland) with a religious drop and increase of my religion in his cities. She certainly seems to be within 10 tiles.

So I'm curious about this and the antiquity sites I mentioned in the above post. This seems different post patch. I actually feel I screwed myself out of some antiquity sites by improving most of my land, I'm actually going for a cultural victory this game with France.

I only disabled CQUI. Didn't seem to be any trouble except once for some reason 2 infantry got stuck on the same tile and I couldn't move them. After hitting a lot of zzzzzzzz eventually the game went on and I briefly "stacked" units. For context one of them embarked from sea on to the tile where I also moved an infantry there by accident.

Was she running Monastic Isolation?

Was she running Monastic Isolation?

I'm not sure. England is the same way. I'm not sure how to check their policy cards. Our cities are crammed pretty close together being it's Europe (though this particular world map has a larger Europe), and I'm playing the religious warfare game. Though I'm starting to get bored of it. It seems easier just to ignore enemy apostles and build inquisitors to clean everything up. But sometimes I take joy out of destroying the enemy's expensive apostles. Though I had 1 enemy apostle destroy 2 of mine, damn them when they take debater.

You can check for Monastic Isolation on the religion screen, though if England is resisting the effect too, then it does sound more like its a bug.

The file is AI_govtpo0liucies.csv in the log file. It's a bit messy if you have not done it before because you need to know what civ number England is, then filter the CSV fiile in excel on their civ number and the keyword 'Slot Policy'... when I get near a PC I'll have a nose. One you have done it a couple of times it only takes a minute

You can get the player number from the player_stats.csv... you are player 0 and then each player is listed in order of their player number after you

I don't think I have excel since I don't have microsoft office package, but that's okay. edit: I just realized it's a founder belief, not a policy cards (honestly I never use that belief, and I never pay attention to the theocracy policy cards since I never use them, so I'm not familiar with every Civ6 concept). Doesn't look like England has that belief, and Poland didn't found a religion.

I think those effects are working, I'm just not getting the graphical indicators for it. I just noticed that London is supposed to be the holy city for protestantism, but it's currently without any religion. Which makes me think they were turned by the religious combat near their city. Only Leeds has Protestantism, so hopefully I won't have to worry about too many English apostles. Poland didn't found any religion, their border cities with me are without religion, so maybe the combat was affecting them as well.

So how are you guys (and maybe girls) finding the Civs that had changes with the patch? I figured I'd give France a test run. Unfortunately I forgot their UU can't be upgraded to. Seriously a big problem Firaxis. Late UU's suck as it is because war isn't as useful in this stage of the game unless you don't care about being a warmonger. You have to hard build their UU. I have yet to build one, I don't need an army for my cultural victory. My upgraded infantrymen will do the job just fine. Their UU needs to be in replaceable parts as an infantry replacement.

The early spy was largely useless as well. I failed in my first attempt to steal a tech, but I did escape. There's not much else to do with spies that early in the game. I usually use spies on the defensive, but I figured I'd go offensive this game. How do you get a spy into a specific district? I can't seem to get the option to siphon gold. Though I'm only concentrating on Civs that hate me anyways, and these civs aren't well developed.

Anyone else play with France, Spain, Kongo, Scythia or Norway since the patch? I've noticed AI Scythia isn't doing as well, but some of that is where they start in the map I like to play.

Apart from redcoats and Brazilian battleship

France spies so much better now, especially with that free first promotion... did you promote the spy before you used?... Kongo... meh

One more time: has anyone noticed any changes to the combat preview?
Yes! it appears to now be less optimistic about the outcome, I think it now takes the lowest or worst outcome as a prediction.

Apart from redcoats and Brazilian battleship

Can't argue there, the battleship saved my a 2 games ago. I was running a very small army, and 2 battleships wrecked massive havoc, otherwise the Aztec could have possibly taken my city of La Venta (conquered city-state). And of course redcoats for free you can't argue with. Just don't get me started how useless the P-51 is.

Ha, the declare war on yourself bug is back. Oh Firaxis, you little scamp. For some reason Victoria wasn't showing up on my leader list, I just waned to snatch her settler, so I just force moved into that square and declared war on myself.

On the bright side I got to here the Kongo leader say War...We are not amused. At least that's what was listed on the translation on the bottom of the screen, I assume he was saying his standard war message.
