Support the US Campaign against the genocide of the Burmese people.

Actually, Than Shwe is the dictator of Myanmar.
Incidently, if Than Shwe is planning genocide against the Burmese people (are we talking about the Bamar or all ethnic groups native to the region?) then the problem can be expected to solve itself when he finds out he an his successor are both Bamar.

If the killings which occur aren't related to ethnic, religious or cultural identity, then in what sense can it be considered "genocide"? That seems misleading, even hyperbolic.

That's not "genocide", though, that's just mass-murder. "Democide", maybe, if you subscribe to the concept, but that's a very broad category.

I'm not debating that it's unpleasant, I just think that using the word "genocide" in an inaccurate manner to generate an emotional reaction both devalues the word and undermines your message.

Either way, I personally believe that both situations and labels are equally digusting and deserve the same attention.

Soldiers using civilians to detonate land mines in front of them is akin to the holocaust.

No. No no no.

Guys, I got bad news. We have to stop talking about the Holocaust. Because anytime, anywhere, a government kills innocent people, it's akin to the holocaust. I'm going to estimate therefore, that at least 5,000 holocausts happened during the holocaust, alone.

With so many holocausts, the level of attention given to the holocaust is absurdly disproportionate, and only useful as a case study in the field of holocaust events.

Of course this is treating the holocaust as a single event, which is only partially useful. If we look at the individual events...they're also equivalent to the holocaust.

The holocaust is now a fractal of holocausts, made of holocausts, so on to infinity, each part equal to the whole. I'm going to reboot my computer.

A holocaust within a holocaust?

WE HAVE TO GO DEEPER

Holy crap people stop taking things so literally.

I'm just speaking about the method/cruelty. Wow. Argumentative much?

w/e, wasn't looking to debate anything, just informing people.

I'm outta here

There are definite genocidal aspects to the Burmese government's waging of war against the various ethnic minorities, particularly the Karen and the Shan, including reports of orders given to rank and file Burmese soldiers to "spread their seed" amongst the non-Burman population.

Yeah, the choice of words are quite important, I'm afraid. Especially in a day and age where wars are not fought primarily on the battlefield but in the minds of people.

A friendly tip: try not to use the words Holocaust in any context other than the Actual Holocaust. The word evokes a very intense emotion that actually hurts your credibility if you use it in an off-hand manner.

Anyway, what does "support the US campaign" mean? There's not even a petition linked, just a bunch of info. You have to go through like three links to find anything substantial, so did the OP not actually think this through, or are we just meant to sit and send out positive vibes?

I suspect that the clue may be in the OP's closing self-congratulation.

Jury rig some body armour, grab a desert eagle and go to town (on the Burmese army that is). If you don't know how to make body armour, google will teach you how. To verify the truishness of any guide, I will give you this advice: it involves soaking felt in a compound available at your nearest hardware store (you'll know it when you see it) and mixing it with sand. A child could do it, and it'll give you a higher AC then anything the Burmese got. Be worth it merely to see the looks on their faces when you shrug off the first mortar shell:lol:

Don't ask me how I know this; I'm too smart for my own good (176 IQ).

I hope you were joking about the 176 IQ. If not. I suggest you go to the nearest news magazine and make a story. Because anyone with an IQ that high would be accepted in the Mega Society. Only 26 people in the world qualify to be members. You are also a part of the 99.9999th percentile of humanity. And you are one in 1,000,000. You should probably be doing something better with your time than playing Civ 5, and for someone with an IQ that would qualify as genius among geniuses, Civ 5 would be absolute childs play.

I could go on, but you probably get the point.
