As an aside, from a health standpoint, it would be infinitely better for you to give up the internet as well.

I guess if you are willing to give up sex, it means you have never, ever really had good sex. I feel sorry for those people.

On to the topic at hand: I interpreted the question as being for a 2-week period, with solo activities permitted. Hence the answer for me was easily no sex.

I don't think that's a "nerdy" response either. Anyone should easily be able to go a week or two without sex. If not, what do you get up to when your significant other is away?

For a longer period, or without solo activities permitted, my answer would be different of course. I could go for several months if solo was allowed. (Though not for the rest of my life - sex would win in that case, don't want to give it up forever! Losing access to all that knowledge and entertainment on the internet would be a shame, though.)

If solo was disallowed... then in the words of LucyDuke:

Onto the other topics... if it was sex/solo vs TV, I can't see why anyone would take TV. You can watch stuff on the internet, folks! I could go the rest of my life without TV quite easily. Heck, I've hardly even watched it for 9 months per year the past 4 years (while I've been at university).

If it was sex/solo vs a free TV, perhaps I'd consider it for a few weeks. Six months wouldn't be worth it, though. Something else though... like sex/solo vs a free Ferrari - perhaps I'd consider six months for that.

And upon further reflection, I realized that I spend two weeks per year in an internetless place that's full of sex if you look for it. So I guess that answers that.

I hardly ever get to have sex, but I would much rather give up the net than give up sex, provided I actually have a choice in the matter.

there's plenty of things to do that are just as fun as being on the internet, so you could fill those hours with that. I can't think of anything that's as fun as sex..

The answer to the question depends on the time. For a short time, I'd forgo sex. For long periods of time, I'd forgo sex. For my lifetime? The internet.

The internet is vital given modern working and social practices. I would rather do well at my job and keep the friends I have than keep the opportunity of sex with any girlfriend that might come along.

It'd actually be interesting to see whether it was a half, or a different fraction. The average poster here is certainly over 18 (not that that affects things too much anyway), and by far males outweigh females. So I guess you'd need to look at what percentage of males come from each country, and what the statistics are for when they have sex there - then bias it a bit, because inevitably the males who have the most sex are probably less likely to be internet nerds.

Or we could just take a poll here at CFC. Of course, the problem is that you can never trust everyone to be honest about those sort of polls...
