I already said I couldn't get it until Thursday at the earliest. I'm pretty sure Whomp or someone else'll have it by then. ;)

OK I got and will give it a go.

Here we go...ready....do the hockey pockey anmd the boogaloo.
4000 BC Send Sirian the scout to the mountain and it looks like Spain not Portugal. Worker goes to a BG and uncovers silk inside our culture borders. Establish Lislambon. Put research to writing at max in 32 and build on curragh.
3950 BC Sirian sees a goody hut.
3900 BCSirian gets the barbarians to build a city named Oporto. They are not very smart on the concepts of cxxc city placement and no river but our research drops to 25 turns.. Set to worker.
3850 BC Sirian finds dyes and some tundra to the NE of Lislambon
3800 BC Sirian meets teh Romans. What up? It seems WC and some gold.
3750 BC Spy a Roman border. Oh boy that's close.
3650 BC Our new curragh Shama Lamba is built so we start a granary. Sirian visits Rome. They have BW. Do I smell sauerkraut?
IT Sirian kicked out of Rome.
3500 BC Increase entertainment to 10% for our new citizens. Sirian sees a blue border. Sauerkraut coming right up.
3450 BC Yum. K Otto how about some b'ness. He won't give both techs for alpha and we don't need either WC or BW so I wait.
3400 BCOporto adds a worker and starts another.
3350 BCSirian sees another GH.
3300 BCHe extorts 25g out of the shills.
3200 BCShama Lamba finds an island just west of Lislambon
3050 BC Our citizens like silk. Move lux down again.
3000 BC
Gran finishes and warrior started but we may want to trade for WC and change that build.
SUMMARY
Close quarters. There seems like a ton of room south where Sirian is headed but the Romans are on top of us already. The gran may not have been the best build. Umm some pics of Spain...K bye.

I took one look at that screenshot and immediately thought "what the hell is he thinking with Oporto?" I guess the free city is a good thing...

I tried mapping out spots for our nearest cities, emphasizing coastal spots. We really want to find out what the terrain south of Rome looks like, though, because that could be a decent city spot or two and we could use all the terrain we can get before we have to fight.

Speaking of fighting... how about racing to Republic so we can conquer Rome for a bit of breathing space? They'll probably come after us no matter what before too long and we don't really want to play 5cc.

We may want to lose Oporto when we have the chance. Maybe pop a settler after the worker and call it a day.

@SW...what's the word :hmm:...a trite bit knackered today?

Hmm, close. Maybe we'll get "lucky" and Caesar will declare on us...

I say we abandon Oporto as soon as we need that area for a better city. A city on the forest (like Own said) and a city closer to the river would be better.

preturn nada.
1- oproto wails, i up sci. frank spots a GH.
2- roads connected, getting us 2 less turns. that GH gives us a "skilled warrior"
3- road to furs and dyes.
4- just move along.
5- more of the same.
6- rome requests writing for bows. i most humbly decline.
Lislanbon settler > warrior,
Whiskers is built on the furs > warrior,
7- spot ivory far on the other side of JAPAN.
8- rome just got writing and sold alpha to japan, so i get all the techs from the other two.
writing the japan for spears, bows and horses with 10g sprinkled on top.
writing to germany for iron and 5g.

we have horses but iron is on the otherside of Veii. Oi Veii!!!

settle on spot and dyes.

I would abandon Oporto and kick out a settler versus finishing rax.

lurker's comment: With this variant, are you allowed to abandon Oporto? Or does that only apply to captured cities?

the variant rules said:
Cities: No razing. No abandoning (not even with Settler/Worker build). No starving. If you can arrange tiles that a city would not starve you must do so.

hope this makes it clear.
were stuck with oporto, might as well enjoy it while were violated.
