Rush a worker in Berlin

I have focused on a slow but steady advancement careful about not losing any cities. The variant is sensitive to disorder->anarchy so being a bit careful seems in place. We're standing outside Hamburg waiting for some Horses to aid in capturing. germs had 3 spears there which was 1 more than I expected so attack has been delayed. Also, I chose to keep some horses around the coast sice both Jap and germ Galley was cruising. have started some harbours. We'll get the big blast soon when Chiv is in and we can up the goats. Have Fun!

We've kind of lost track here.
IroP - swapped with Chez Dagh
Stephan - up...right?
whomp - On Deck but nothing till Saturday
Own - Patiently waiting. How did you like my city?
soul_warrior - Recovery mode?
daghdha -swapped with IP

roster seems A oK.

its so hard. recovering...
i have to go to the beach everyday, drink some nice  and enjoy the view.
and at night, after my afternoon beuty nap, i go out to indulge in some liquid painkillers for my poor back.
Ohh, its so horrible ;)

Oops, sorry about the delay. I've got it now.

I'm flying back to school tomorrow and the cheapest flight had a 3.25 hour lay-over in Denver . On the upside, I'll be able to use that time to play civ :).

I played this on Saturday, but my college's network was being fussy, so I wasn't able to get on until today.

Preturn

The german scientist in Heidelburg was building a Pikeman, but since there's no barracks and that will take forever, I switch to a Catapult.
Swap Veii to... Aquaduct? Anything other than a regular Pikeman.
Switch Sagres to worker from harbor. It's growing slowly right now, but land tiles still beat see and we can do some chopping/irrigation with the worker that will be more effective while preserving production capability.
Leiria also has no business as a size two city building a harbor when there's unimproved land. Swap to Worker.
Emerita... I would switch from harbor to worker but that would waste shields, so catapult instead.

Japan would sign peace for the pitance of 40 gold. They can't touch us this turn, but if necessary I'll sign just because we have little chance of making actual progress by touching any of their cities anytime soon.

I didn't realize Germany is down to two cities already! We should be able to take them out this turn set and then have peace for a while as we build up our infrastructure and consider our preferred method of victory. Conquest/Domination seems VERY viable in the near future, but for now I'll just wipe out Germany so our citizens are happy (we have small war weariness and some unhappy germans).

We still really could use some extra workers because of the rule against slaves.... uh.... who are those guys working by Evora and Leipzag? Tsk tsk... they're merged into nearby cities.

Overall, looks pretty good. I press Enter.

IBT: Japanese approach Braga with 3 archers.

330BC

Capture Hamburg without losses after bombardment killing two spears and two archers with our horses. Capture a slave (merged immediately) and three catapults.

Kill two of the Japanese archers and cover Braga for the last archer with two horses.

We have an interesting conumdrum. The worker just built in Berlin is a slave. Is it okay to use him or not? I'll assume the answer is yes: we can always merge him in later. I just realized that maybe the slaves I noticed last turn were actually built :/.

Horseman running to Munich sees two archers appear out of the fog.

IBT: Jap archer attacks Braga and dies to horse. One of the jap archers by Munich attacks and redlines horse which safely retreats. Hamburg riots (oops, forgot about the worker's extra citizen). Benfica riots! (war weariness).

310 BC

Japanese will now take peace straight up. I'll take it, before their archer near Munich is in our territory ;). They entered the middle ages last turn.

Attacking Munich... two vet horses die in my haste to take the city (cats did little) after damaging defenders. Down to one last two hp archers. I have one two hp horse who can reach there... worth the chance to defeat the Germans this turn? Sure! Attacks, is damaged, retreats. Oh well. Next turn.

IBT: German galley finally drops off an archer by Leipzag. Too late, Bismark!

290 BC

7 cats allow for a single horse to capture Munich. The Germans are no longer.

Three core cities still need specialists to be happy. That's too much, so I up the luxury rate to 10%.

IBT: nada

270 BC

Found, uh, Bovine Fish (I'm feeling creative today).

Veii swaps to settler (I think we'll want to fit in two more cities before Japan).

250 BC

Peace is quiet. Switch Lislambon to two turn pikes.

230 BC

Really quiet.

IBT: Japanese finish Temple of Artemis and have started the Pyramids. Settler completes in Veii,

210 BC:

Just more shuffling troops around. 9 horses and 7 cats on the Japanese border.

190 BC:

Monotheism in. Research on Chivalry (11 turns).

170 BC:

Nada

150 BC:

Nothing new of note.

------

I have a settler down south but now that I think about it the ideal city spots would need clearing of marsh first. I like the idea of a canal city N of the wines by Japan but if we can't clear that in time settling on the hills where the archers currently are would do the trick also.

Hmm, we still need more workers. I don't think I did enough to alleviate that issue. At the very least we're going to want to build a road down through the marshes, if not clear them.

We're alone with Japan now, which, I'd like to note had a truly exceptional starting position... though I'll admit it's not quite as good as seven cows at Delhi start India appropriately had in one of my games a month or two ago.

And then there were two. If the Japanese continue to build culture we could have some interesting conquest of their cities.

Own--I'm going to the Cubs game tonight if you want to play today otherwise I will hit it tomorrow.

viry nice stephan, very nice indeed.
my take on the worker thing is ive never seen it look like a slave when i built it. so if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck - it must be a witch!
if it looks like a regular worker but says its german,, thats ok.

also another small detail you might have forgotten about, Stephan?
how about you share youre triumph over the dastardly krauts with us and post a save?

Whomp- Chicago was awesome. The only date we could have possibly gone to a game was the day we arrived, but we didn't get there in time. We went to millenium park, which was cool. We ate at Principe's pizza, and some cheap sandwich store (forgot name). Unfortunately, I got sick after we got back, and the only other time I've been in Chicago that happened too.

Sorry about threadjacking :( .

Oops :D.

Attached.

OK I got rid of the Cubs tix. I got it.

Pre-turn: Work Oporto down from 10 to 8 without growth issues. Turn Emerita into a galley build since we still can move faster along the seas and there's places to go. We need a settler to hit that island or the open ivory so Rome makes a settler. Braga gets a temple so we can capture that whale and I move the citizen to the fish for extra growth and no shield loss. I moved the units out of Munich just because I'm a paranoid schizo who doesn't like flips though this seems remote here. Just a personal preference but I like to double workers for development and singles or triples for roads. The land is pretty well developed but speed is more important right now. Looks like we skipped over Lit so no libs in the house. Turn down research to 40% which will get Chivalry in 12 at +12gpt vs. 50% in 9 turns with 7gpt. We can't afford more and it won't hurt to slow it down a bit.

IT Lislambon Pike-->galley, Berlin worker-->settler
130 BCDang the wines get a culture expansion near the marshlands.

IT Japanese start Sun Tzu. They are a culture menace right now. Guess we'll just point our stick at them.
110 BCShift around

IT Lislambon galley -->MI We can work 1 time on mine and 2 on irrigation without waste. Evora finishes rax...MI in a bunch. My bad should have caught that.
90 BCTaxman in Whiskers.

IT Rome Settler--> can't remember, Emerita galley--Market
50 BCLoad the settler and the galley moves towards either the island or ivory. Next players call.

IT zz
30 BCStuff.

IT Lislambon MI-->MI, Heidleberg worker-->Harbor We can still get commerce without shield production.
10 BCJapanese get mono. Dang I knew I should have traded it. Turn up research to 50% at -9gpt but cashish in the bank.

IT Oporto market-->duct Benefica market --> duct
10 AD Research to 60% at -16gpt. More stuff and things.

Stuff, things and such the rest of the way through.

Chivalry came in 50AD

Random thoughts
We can either go zero science and work upgrades or we crank lit for libs. I'd sell Chiv for their bank (without gpt) if we go that route.

The alternative is we wait 2 turns and upgrade to armor, jump on the horse and take them out. They still haven't hooked up their iron, they're building wonders and their UU is coming. This would be my preference.

Oh and BTW the save is 50AD. I forgot to change it.

O/T Own I'm glad you had fun in my fine city. Millenium Park was the biggest civic project the city has taken on since the 1893 World's Fair. Was the cheap sandwich place Potbelly's? Yummy.

Yes! Potbelly's was it.

Anyway, got it.

Guess we'll just point our stick at them.

One samurai with holes in him coming up...

Note that since Munich was German and the Germans are toast, it's no culture risk :). Looks pretty good. I guess Knight is the way to go.

No turnlog, cuz me don't feel like.

On turn 2 or somthing, the Japansies demanded chivalry, which I refused, and to my great joy they declared war. Free war happiness :) . Now at Costa del something I have been leader fishing, and got a bite!

leader1.jpg

I'm guessing that will be a knight army. I probably could have attacked instead of leader fishing, but leader fishing is fun, just cast out the old bait and sit back. Also, I want there to be some of Japan left for cavalry, which I'm beelining to.

Here be the current sitaution at cost del ejldafhd

I would be disappointed if this game got back to me. :D

sw7 250ad-350ad

preturn- the japanese are so lucky those marshes are still up....

1- kill a couple of archers.
keep knight about our rear, as there is a jap galley roaming there with no defences.
lower sci, as Eng comes in next.
workers go to road the marsh.

2- Eng in > Invention in 10 losing 1 gpt.
berlin galley > settler, Emerita market > treb,
Matsuyama is a tough nut. 2 horses retreat so our knight army kills 2 spears and an archer with no damage and takes and razes it.
workers start roading the last stretch.

3- got the Heroic Epic pop up.
Hamburg settler > settler,
sink that jap galley.

4- now were in for it! the first SAMURAI are out there.
retreat some, as horses are no match for katanas.
notice they have just one iron. operation Snip Iron is started.

5- Lislambon knight > knight, Oporto knight > knight, Sagres rax > knight,
knights are running, pikes are bracing, kill some more archers.

6- Emerita settler > harbour,
Nagasaki is ours. but the price tag... 2 horses and an MDI. i raze it.
still waiting for tose knights to arrive.

7- Leipzig temple > knight,
KYOTO now has Pyramids.
lower sci but Inv still in 5.

8- Whiskers knight > knight, Benfica aqua > knight,
the knights arrive. we now have a 3 knight army.

9- move south with the army, loads of cats and some horses.
workers are busy clearing that choke of wetlands so we can build a choke town. settler already on spot.

10- LisLambon knight > knight, Coimbra market > treb,

the strike force is a fully laden knight army, 4 horses, 12 cats. with 6 horse, 1 MDI and 1 pike 1 tile behind.
at the choke we have - a pike and 3 horse.
we have a settler on the choke.
a galley with a knight and a settler is enroute.

sw7_sw_122.jpg

just before posting a remember the no slaves rule.
i think we have 3-4. join them onto corset in a turn or two
