Swiss system is,to me, the only real democraty.
Swiss system was already democratic in the middle age;since 1874,every important decision has to be approved by the swiss people n since 1891 swiss people can launch referendums by collecting 100 000 signatures among the swiss people.
In 5 cantons people still vote by raising their hands.
Swiss people rnt f***ed by politicians n r the real governors

No"for the national security"(american),"for the unity of the republic"(french) or kinda fachist politician f***s like that in Switzerland coz democraty is the power by the people n not by nobles, politicians or someone else

i agree, but that kind of democracy would work here in sweden because people are too stupid, but in 20 years later maybe it could.

however, how many percent of the population are actually voting and using the power?

When the referendum is about a little prob such as genetically modified animals n plants, around 30% of people vote.
If it's about relations with the other countries,it's about 50%
If it's about big probs such as drug, more than 80% of the people vote.
Actually it depends on the theme but usually 60% of the people vote.
At least 10 referendums r launched every year.

Some of the smaller towns near where I live (New England) are very close to true democracy in that a town meeting where every voting citizen is welcome comes to vote on issues. There is, however, an elected group that oversees things (called selectmen).

I suppose it depends what your definition of democracy is, but is the size of the franchise important? I recall that one Swiss Canton only voted to allow women the right to vote in the early 1990s.

Well, the Dutch system is fine to me. I'm sure it's better than the Chirac=style. The ******* can't shut his mouth about us, while he should take a look at his own drinking and corruption problems.
