Sword of Geddon's Polynesian Unit workshop

Thats one idea, I may do it! You gave me another idea too, I may do that too. Thanks Kulade, hope you are happy your dream unit is finally done lol.
Pleased to help, and indeed I am happy, but now it will be difficult to find a new cause to fight for. ;)

interesting idea, although I'm not sure how to implement it on the paper doll.

I think this is one of those UV mapper things. :)

The unit looks great! Although I agree that it should have civ colour!

This looks great. How did you make the things on his calves?

Heres the Polynesian lineup so far:

Voyaging Canoe: Replaces Curragh and Galley
Polynesian Warrior: Replaces Warrior(Utahjazz)
Polynesian Spearman(Utahjazz): Replaces Spearman
Samoan Clubman:Replaces Medival Infantry(Kinboat).
Polynesian Frigate:Replaces Frigate(Aaglo)

You're forgetting my Polynesian Worker!

interesting idea, although I'm not sure how to implement it on the paper doll.

Just apply a bitmap to the PDM. I think the PDM download includes a skin, so you can just draw tattoos on that. However, this wouldn't be suitable as a way of adding civ colour, because it would be very hard to see at civ scale.

Sorry about your worker....It just came to mind after I made the list. Come to think of it I will probably change things around when the time comes to add in all the units into my mod(Samoan Clubman will fill the swordsman slot for example).

I have some ideas for civ color.

Civ color is always a challenge, but it is really important in my opinion.
I am working on something where civ color has also proven a real challenge. But I am gonna include reguardless. Sure it is a minor compromise, but not nearly as much of one as taking several weeks of modeling highly accurate and detailed bits and rendering the unit out at less than 100 pixels.

I am really excited to see more support for the islanders. I think they would make a very interesting addition to the game.

Great idea.

--edit--

possible civ color would be his loincloth, part of his sheild. A tassle on his spear, sandals, an arm or legband to hold the current tassles in place, and so on.
Also, didn't Civ's Army do a couple of islanders?? I am pretty sure he did a boat, and maybe more.

tattoos should be easy to implement, no? after all, you are just applying a certain texture, as if were clothes.

Really, even though I am not a fan of overloading a unit with civ color, you gotta show "a little". It makes a unit much more useable...

Next unit will be using a spear with civcolor on it. Thanks for the support Bjorn. We should chat again something.

Topgun: I agree with you. The challenge is to find a happy medium between the two, although I have seen great units that looked good all civcolor, such as Firaxis Nakamaro Samarai..

First impression is that is too dark.
Possible fixes:
1: adjust the colors to lighter shades
2: adjust the lighting for more illumination
3: adjust the ambient colors in the material room
4: adjust the shadows to a lighter shade.

Also, brown on brown makes for difficult to pick up details. I suggest brighter loin cloth, maybe in light civ color there.

The blue on the leggins might work better in a lighter shade of blue. Maybe slightly less saturated. Check a unit palette and look at the various shades of blue avaialble for civ color.

The black armbands would still look black if you made them nearly black. Check the colors used in Kinboats "black" shoes.
