T.S. Ike

While I sympathize with all the peoples living in Florida and Puerto Rica (but not Cuba) on account of them being slightly bothered by Ike and Hanna, I'm just glad that there's no more coming to New Orleans. Hopefully..

What if it does like Katrina, goes through Florida, to the other side in the gulf, and hits new orleans?

Then I'll have another week of canceled classes, that's what.

I don't really have anything against Cubans or anyone in the Caribbean. I only posted such a thing because my sick humor told me to type it :3

Which hurricane model to go with this time? The NHC forecast, which is the white line in the "spaghetti model" below, splits the difference of seceral models. Trouble is, that would take Ike right into the Miami area!

Yer pictures aren't showing up for me for some reason.

That isn't particularly at present...but who knows?

what if this happens?

Oh look, my picture updates as NOAA updates. Neat.

If that were to happen it'd be bad. It's still too far out to know. Katrina followed a path not unlike that. The 2005 storm moved west over Florida then into the gulf.

IF it starts curving like on the latest NHC path, I'd be more worried about the panhandle, maybe even the western side of the peninsula.

That's because often once a hurricane starts turning, it keeps turning.

EDIT: Then again, that's a very Katrina-like track. We'll see. Let's hope the hurricane isn't too large, anyway; if it is too large and a little north of this track, Miami might just wind up in the wrong-quadrant despite not being directly hit.

We should be more concerned with Miami for the moment. Let's get it past that great city before we worry about New Orleans, may we?

Anybody know how I can re-title this thread? I PM'd a mod about it, but they haven't responded.

Looking better for Miami, worse for Cuba- and the central US Gulf Coast. The latest "spaghetti model" is the first where I've seen all of them have the center of Ike missing south Florida:

Oh . .. .. .. .! I was right! Note: The last image i posted wasn't real! i made it myself, the above image is real and it looks like it's going for NO.

Spaghetti Model is still a little unclear. Ignore red, as it is wrong :p but what if it is orange? a very quick move across cuba, then in the warmest part of the gulf, then curving into NO? worst thing possible right now i think.

Dark orange Yellow are both very scary models, possibly a Gustav II with more time and better situation to intensify after Cuba. So are white and pale orange, with practically Katrinesque scenarios. Red, as you note, is off-track.

Blue could be good, except that it seems to go for the NOLA direct hit., so weakening over Cuba may not be all that much of a saving grace.

Finally, Green is the hopeful scenario for the USA, as it leaves Cuba ample time to slaughter Ike and then move it away from the warmer parts of the gulf.
