Takeover Ads

You could tie in the logon to the ads so that 'special' (i.e. donor) users wouldn't get them.

That would really be great, and it would be a good guide to see how many people prefer to donate a small sum rather than click past those ads...

No. I may have got up to get a cup of tea, but that's the most moving I've done today. This was all in one session at CFC. It seems the Duke of Marlborough and Ohwell got the same thing.

Well, the takeover ad should only appears once a day. If you get a few of them in one day, it most likely has something to do with your computer's cookie settings. Try changing your browser's privacy settng to "Medium", if it's higher.

Trust me, there is no conspiracy.

WHen I log onto the forums the ad page starts up but dissapears before I see any ads.

This is why I have Netscape, I don't know what it is, but it works. I have gotten very few of these ads on the school computers (which run the latest version of Internet Explorer) and am experiencing the same thing at my home computer (besides Netscape, PC=Internet Explorer, Opera; Mac=Internet Explorer, Safari).

well, this "ad" dosent live up to its name, I see this thing like 10 times a day...I wouldnt mind it if it only came once every 24 hours...but it dosent, it comes up multiple times EVERY hour...

It's most likely a glitch in the coding. Telefragged is still sorting it out.

I get the takeover ads more frequently than 1 a day as well. I must say that I'd really rather not deal with it. I feel like I'm being punished for browsing too much.

Thunderfall - asking people to set their internet zone to 'medium' isn't a solution. It's like asking someone to leave their front door wide open when they go to work. Can you tell us exactly what the takeover ad is using to determine if it should be run again? If it's cookies then internet settings won't matter as we can't get on to CFC without enabling cookies or logging on every time.

well the ad is very annoying! it shows every single time i come to this forum - not every 24h. What is WORSE is that I can't enter the forum in IE6 anymore. Everytime I click the link to the forum i am redirected to the ad again . I am using IE6, cookies enabled and no ad filter.

I am now here using Opera.

Edit: The ad shows up every single time i hit the back button to move between CFC forums using Opera.

Using the latest version of Opera, I haven't seen a single takeover ad whatsoever.

Likewise, Octavian - I haven't seen any at home.

At work, however, I see 2 or 3 a day, now. And a couple more that start to pop up, and then bypass straight to the site. Very disconcerting to be editing a mod action into a post, and have to go through that to complete the job.

Edit: I *do* understand that since I'm on a LAN and behind a firewall that I might be getting a "new" IP address occasionally, which could be why I see this multiple times per day.

On a related note, I thought there were no more pop-ups on the forums, but there clearly are every few posts. So we now have takover ads (about 3 or 4 times a day for me) and pop-ups

The pop-ups are NOT supposed to be there; the takeover ad is.

Telefragged is working on the pop-up problem.
