Tasers! Again!

Since Tasers have been proven to be quite harmful devices, can anyone tell me what the rules and laws for owning one as a private citizen are, if any?

I've seen magazines that sell the melee(?) ones. I assume they aren't hard to come by.

The handheld stunguns you're talking about are legal in Texas. My cousin has one. I don't know the law regarding projectile tasers though.

In Chicago they are illegal, but in IL it's legal. I've seen how this confusion doesn't end well to people flying in O'hare.

Went to get some money out of the cashpoint the other night and there was a cop nearby armed with a tazer. So of course I turned straight round and didn't get any money out. Man, you can never be too sure. Next time, I'll use a cashpoint when there's a higher certainty of criminals being around instead.
