Tea Party leader desirous of Property requirement for voting

Why should he use a dictionary definition though? The dictionaries are copyrighted. Copyright is controlled by the government, thus copyrighted works are socialist, so shouldn't be trusted.

But that's an opinion. You could say that about EVERY industry!

It still is, so govt control of it would still be socialism.

there are some people who think all things should be privatized, and some who think everything should be controlled by the state - most of us fall somewhere in between. The question becomes where to draw the line, which you're right, is a matter of opinion.

I've given up hope that the US will ever have universal, non-profit based health care, so don't worry I'm sure you will continue to get it the way you want. If you ever find yourself falling through the cracks of our system you probably will change your mind

Is there actually a concrete, fiscal or moral justification for the privatization of health care or does the argument for it just boil down to OMGZ SOSHULIZM BAD!!!!!!!1!!!11!!!

cash is king - that's all it boils down to. Some people are making very large profits in our current system.

EDIT: I suppose we should stop jacking the thread... :)

How crazy is Judson Phillips? Let me count the ways.

1. Judson Phillips wants to repeal the 14th, 16th, and 17th amendment.

2. Judson Phillips is a birther.

3. Judson Phillips thinks Obama is part of a nefarious plot--ominously referred to as "Agenda 21"--in cahoots with the UN to undermine America via loosening immigration laws.

4. Judson Phillips does not believe Muslims should be members of Congress.

5. And last but not least, Judson Phillips wants to eliminate voting for non property owners.

Source.

He is also apparently "irrelevant" to other "Tea Partiers."

The man is apparently insane and, essentially, a complete fraud. His property voting idea also happens to be completely stupid. Is there anything else left to say?

How do you feel about privatizing the military, since socialism means

partial government control of the economy

EDIT: The military is part of the economy, I can't remember how many people are employed by defense plants, but it is a substantial amount.

Health Insurance is absolutely an industry.

No health care is an industry... health insurance is often a mutual collective style activity... non profit... for the benefit of its members... probably the way your church operates

one of your largest grew from such an idea...
it was common for insurance of all types to operate this way... for the mutual benefit of its members

UHC... just extends this idea to its citizens

Modern thought... just get a cut by ADDING costs in the form of profit

If that statement is true, then you mean that with 300 million people in the United States, less than 100,000 are socialists, or less than 1/3,000th of the people.

Vermont elected a Socialist (Bernie Sanders) to the House of Representatives, so I think that's unlikely. Possible though...

I don't remember if I asked you this question in this thread or a different one, but I'll restate it, are there any Republicans at all you have respect for? If not, is there anyone to the right of the mainstream Democratic party you have respect for?

Sanders, like most people who win elections as independents, is extremely well known over a lengthy period of time in the area he is elected in. He doesn't win because he is a socialist, he wins because he's one of the best known and most respected politicians in that state.

As the old saying goes: All politics is local.

Susan Colins and Olympia Snowe are worth respect.

Obama is to the right of the Democratic party as a whole.

But conservatism as a whole is the US has changed* so much in my lifetime, that there is nothing remaining to it that an American patriot or nationalist could possibly respect.

* ironic, if you think about it, the ideology of "conserving" is the ideology which has changed the most in such a short period of time.

Actually, both moral, and this is the most important part, FISCAL considerations say that we should have UHC. To be clear, the most important reason for adopting UHC is fiscal conservatism.

It just really does cost that much less.

I see my attempt to put the thread back on track failed. Get Denzel and Chris Pine in here! This thread is headed straight for a school bus full of children stuck on the tracks!

PS Awesome post! :)

Unfortunate. Some people have an unhealthy obsession with children.

I decide to give a complete and non snarky answer for once, and this is the thanks I get...

The military is not a part of the economy.

Valid.

Susan Colins and Olympia Snowe are worth respect.

After looking them up, I do see why you'd say that, since they are much more moderate.

Obama is to the right of the Democratic party as a whole.

Oh really? Because Obama definitely wasn't one of the extremely few senators to vote against the partial birth abortion ban act, that whole thing's just in my head...
