Not following any of this, I'm afraid. But after checking the OP, I've downloaded the approp program.;)

Welcome to the team!! :goodjob:

Well, I wanted to get new 9600GSO's from EVGA to allow for step up, buy buying them off Ebay would ruin that plan.
By the looks of it though, a pair of GTS 250's on a celeron-powered board is probably the most energy efficient design now. 240 watts for roughly 13000 PPD.

Are there celeron-capable boards that have PCIe-X16 slots on them (particularly doublewide ones)? And why would buying them off Ebay ruin the plan?

By the way, the kill-a-watt on my foldgarden system is showing ~460W usage, drawing about 4 Amps.

Celeron's are just LGA775 chips. Plenty of motherboards that support those.
EVGA has a program - step up. They only offer it if you buy one of their products new. I would like to have that option available so if I decide in a couple months to upgrade the GPU's, I can for a minimal cost.

Ah, good deal. :)

I just figured out that my old office workstation's motherboard won't run Windows 7 (well, it will, except for the network card... :( ) so it'll probably end up with Redhat on it, and I'll be getting a little experience with the Linux CPU folding client soon.

Well, if the temperatures get much hotter here, im gonna have to stop folding sporadically. CPU almost hit shutdown temp earlier.

I really need that fan to arrive here, my GPU is going to melt otherwise.

Wow IglooDude, that rig folds!

I see Radioactive Monkey is folding again - and quicker than me!

I only let Radioactive Monkey out of the cage from time to time to test this or that (in the most recent case, a 5.02 folding client that had been stopped for several months, I wanted to see if the client's results were still being accepted as valid). RM is hibernating again now, though. Now I'm mulling whether to build a new workstation for my wife; if I do it'll probably do some folding prior to delivery at home in order to optest it. :mischief:

Question: If a job doesn't finish before the deadline, is it still worth finishing it? Will it be accepted? Or is it better just to clear it from the queue and hope the next one finishes on time? The reason I ask is that, while the deadlines have usually included enough fluff room, my most recent unit only had 5 hours extra estimated out of 53 total hours (the other 48 hours being required to complete the unit running at 100% on both cores the whole time).

Fortunately this time there was no need to unplug my laptop or otherwise burn through those CPU cycles (although Civ3 did take a good 45 minutes on one core), but I'm sure at some point there will be a need to be unplugged/using CPU cycles for something else for a longer time than the extra time allows for, especially if I happen to keep drawing ones with < 10% extra time. So for when that inevitably happens, should I keep folding on that unit, or cancel that one and start another?

Before the preferred or final deadline? You still get points past the preferred, but not the final.

I'm not sure. Whichever one FahMon 2.3.99.1 reports. Right now, it says it's due in 1 day, 8 hours, 4 minutes. I downloaded it 20 hours, 43 minutes ago. Finish time should be about 1 day, 7 hours, 34 minutes.

When I go into FAH6.23beta-win32-SMP-deino and open unitinfo.txt in Notepad, I get this:

Current Work Unit
-----------------
Name: 66728 p3065_lambda5_99sb_big
Tag: P3065R2C366G17
Download time: May 22 01:30:49
Due time: May 26 11:06:49
Progress: 36% [|||_______]

The download time is correct, assuming it's GMT. But the due time doesn't correspond with FahMon 2.3.99.1. Might it be that FahMon is reporting the preferred one and the unitinfo.txt is reporting the final deadline?

I didn't even know there there were multiple deadlines before. Hopefully this is the preferred deadline that's giving <10% extra time.

See the preferred and the final deadline? You may have to use the webview for it to see the deadlines though.

On another note, first time I see a 2144 point WU for the SMP! And its faster than the 1920 point ones somewhy. ( 1920's take 25 hours, this one seems to be on track for 23)

I'm going to have to throttle back on the points for now. Want to cut my electric bill for other projects. Still have 2 smp rigs going though.

Glad to have you aboard!

Dell has an excellent deal on some 9xxx Series GPU's. So I went and bit the bullet. 130$ for two 9800GT's is an excellent deal. Essentially, I just bought a second GTX 260 in terms of SP's for 130$. . Either way, in about a week ill be trying to get that set up. Also ordered a refurb case from CoolerMaster for 23$, so that's saving quite a bit of money. If I see a good deal on a cpu, I may just build that dedicated rig yet.

I have joined the CivFanatics Folding@home team.

Welcome aboard! You're on the list as Naskra, I take it? What kind of hardware are you using?

Dell has excellent deals on video cards? :crazyeye: Anyway, yeah, looks like you got the 9800GTs for about half price. :goodjob:

I'm still holding out for a $150 9800GX2...

Looks like a GPU client at least, a 9xxx series, it would seem.

And yeah, Dell occasionally has great deals. Better yet, the rebate from Newegg applies to these as well, so I may just get 40$ back. two 9800GT's for 90$ is AMAZING. You can barely buy a single 9600GT for that.

Hello, fellow-folders.
I'm currently running a linuxbox smp, an nvidia 9800, and 3 instances of vanilla console off of a quad-core phenom.
My folding pace is dependent upon temperatures (I don't like air-conditioning), so I shut down the consoles as needed. All told, about 7k ppd; though I could set up a notfred if I get ambitious.
