The AI will rip you off in each individual trade, but you can still come out ahead in total. You can trade alphabet for IW, for Mathematics, for Monarchy (maybe) and for Sailing + Monotheism all in separate trades, and come out way ahead in total lightbulbs, since you are always trading the same thing.
