Moderator Action: Let's upgrade the power of this thread by asking former and recent Conquest Class players to tell us what they have done with the treasure chests in recent games (NO Gotm24-Korea Spoilers Allowed).

Tell us how effective you were at using the treasure chests to help your game along and how you think these benefits helped you to play and learn new things. - cracker

You start with units called Treasure chests.

You can scout with them

or you can disband them in cities and they will add 10 shields (If I remember correctly) to the current thing you are building in that city.

Nice aint they?

Melifluous

but remember they don't add shields to any wonder project (including small wonders... I found that out the hard way! )

The only time I was able to use treasure chests (can't play conquest anymore :) ) , I used 1 to build a defender in a city built near a neighbor that allowed me to capture a luxury and a source of iron. I used the other 2 to help rush a granary in my capital to speed up settler production. I used all 3 for about the first 10 turns as scouts, but as soon as I saw opposing units (1 barb), I hurried them back to home for protection.

Good luck with them and enjoy the GOTM.

I often use treasure chests to help along a granary build if the city growth/shield output is not exactly balanced. I tend to use 2 chests for a granary or other important city improvement and then send the remaining one with a settler and spear escort to my second city site. This helps if my intended second city site is a reasonable distance from the capital and I need help with production. Chests are also useful for early scouting near to the capital but they can't enter mountainous terrain.
Hope this helps

I've used them for some very early scouting and to rush a granary in my capital. Once I used them to rush a defender in a newly founded city that was threatened by barbs.

I'm with mabellino. I have used them each time to get a granary up and running ASAP. I was trying to get a 4-turn settler factory, but I never mastered that trick. Each time I did improve on the QSC though.

On the Arabs GOTM, I used them to scout the valley we were in then brought them in to build the granary.

Generally I used them to rush the first warriors for faster exploration.

Once when we had 2 settlers I rushed a temple to get my city radius expanded to a bonus tile.

It really depends on the starting city location. If there are plenty of shields then one chest usually only grants an extra turn (if that). I usually keep one to use in my capital to maximize the granary if it will be a settler factory if the granary would be done the turn before a population increase. The other two I use to scout a semi-circle to look for my second city position and then use them in that city if I need to increase the culture boundaries by creating a quick temple. Or get a barracks going if you want to have a _really_ early war because you've found someone close to you.
