    Carpenter (new worker)- Moves 4N

Sirians Eyes moves onto hill. If the barb attacks and loses we get a hut to pop:)

Innovia Trade Aphabet for Mathematics. We can see Innovia has Literature and we can see Loco have Masonry. Both have Meditation and Priesthood

Here is a view of our new city. And also our Axe has moved into position so there is no fog in the south so no barbs from there:D

We have passed Piffle in score and we are now equal 3rd with Innovia.

I forgot to add that in the entire area we have explored so far there is no iron, none! So either there is no iron on the map, which will definately make things interesting or its hidden in far away places. In the short term it means units like crossbows and pikes can't be built, the latter particularly interesting given our mounted UU. Any thoughts on this situation?

Barb does not attack Sirians Eyes and the odds arn't good to attack (around 10%) so Innovia will probably get the hut with their Axe thats in the area. What we can see is that its looks like Innovia is on a dead end like us. This is a big clue as to how the game might be set up. It might be that each team has their peninsular which are all connected via a central landmass?

Our Axe kills the barb Axe. For the first time in a while their are not any barbs in visual range

Innovia accepted Metal Casting for Priesthood. I have sent for Code of Laws, the final part of the trade. Once this build of barbs is complete then its back to workers and settlers as well as our galley and scout, should we build 2 since they can fit on the boat?

I'm concerned about the Hanging Gardens. Innovia and Loco both have Maths and could build it. There is 4 units under production in Hej, it's going to be late to build the HG.

Iron situation....start mining every hill you can. I dont know if you can "hard wire" in the random chance of finding iron but if so then maybe some will pop up.

OK so what units cant be built..
    swords, pikes, crossbows, maces(?)

We can build cats, axes, archer units.
    What other longer term things..tanks?

I am going to be ticked off if others have it and we cant find it. We also need to make sure every single tile is reveiled. IF we miss the one tile with iron we will look really stupid.

Only mined hills we are working will have a chance of a resource popping up, so the longer we work one the better, but just randomly mining hills we don't plan on working won't help

In which case shouldn't we try to settle in the central landmass as quickly as possible? Especially at the "entrance" to our peninsula?

I agree, we don't need to settle in the south, it isn't that good of land and we have it blocked in, we need to start settling outwards

Maces can be done with bronze. Cannons, Frigates and Knights also require Iron. I doubt anyone has iron, this is probably one of Sirians challanges to us. We seen all of Innovia and they don't have any either. The big one their is Knights, especially if the other go down that path while we head straight for Cossaks.

As far as expanding outward, i don't see a reason to change our plan, because to expand outward brings extra maintenace costs and we need more cities close to Aloha to support this. Also we have no idea where to expand to, most of the areas are still dark so we need to explore first. Also i see no point in blocking off our entrance as we have open borders with the 2 civs we know anyway.

If anything the lack of Iron plays more into our hands then other teams so there is no need to panic, the plan we have is a good one and we should stick to it.

OK..refresher...who are the other civs UU and when can we start to expect wars. It would seem to me that everyone is waiting on their UU for wars.

/wouldnt you be pissed if you picked Rome.

    To be honest its hard to forsee a war anytime before Turn 170+. From our point of view;
-no one has seen where we are
-we know where Innovia is but we have friendly relations
-we have met Loco but have no idea where they are
-we have no idea about Epsilon or Piffle
and finally our military is let face it pretty pathetic, yet we are equal 1st in power.

    Now as far as civs and UU's go;
Aloha - Russia - Cossaks (cavs) no issues with iron shortage:D
Innovia - Arabia - Camel Archer (knight) CA's don't need iron where Knights do so no issue for them
Loco - India - Fast Worker (worker) no problems for them and they arn't going to be waiting for their UU to go to war.
Piffle - England - Redcoat (Rifle) again no issues about iron
Epsilon - China - Cho-Ko-Nu (cross) hmmm, no iron no UU, as if we needed another reason to attack them. Epsilon is the only team with worries about the lack of iron

Don't place cities 6&7 to current dots. There is too much jungle and no food resources.

I did maths. Distance won't change maintenance much in low population cities.

Latter screenshot presents where I would place next two cities.
Both cities will have food resources for fast growth (rice+flood plains).
Both cities will be productive soon.

    Cities 6&7 distance maintenance:

What kunnigus says makes sense..I dont know the formulas but if they are right then he has a point.

I had a city in the "Robi's" game that sucked due to too much jungle and no food...so i agree with that premise.

Builder - Moves N, NE Starts and finishes road
Brick Layer - Moves 2S, SW
Carpenter - Moves N, NE Starts and finishes road

Innovian Axe kills barb and takes hut. Sirians Eyes will slowly head back to the former barb city as it seems its the only way to go further.

Piffles galley comes into view. We can now see Piffle are running Slavery, other civics are default. They have 4 cities. They can give us Meditation, Archery and Masonry. We can give them Polytheism, Code of Laws and Maths. Although since we got Poly and CoL from Innovia that leaves maths, but that more than enough to cover what Piffle have. Looking at the graphs our lines are very similar in all catagories except culture were we are way ahead. This should keep the FM busy when he gets back from holidays;)

Looking at kuningas dotmap i see we can have all 9 cities easily since we can build court houses now. The jungle in the south wont last too long once we get a few more workers out.
Also do we get 1 or 2 scouts on our galley once we get it out?

    Great news, we met Piffle.

I though Brick Layer would start chopping jungle in dyes tile.

Brick Layer is putting a road the hill next to Kia Ora, then he will return and clear the jungle and build the plantation.

He will be joined by Plumber, Builder, and the half finished worker in Aloha. All in all it should have the dyes hooked up on the 3rd turn of discovering calandar.

9 cities sounds good. Code I posted in post #52 is not correct. Each factor have to round down and two variables in DistanceScale is counted in not divided. Here is code for distance 11 city from population 1 to 6.

    Code:
    City population 1, distance 11:
    [(25*11*7)/10]*,80*,85/(21+13)*2=1,91 = distance maintence is 1 gpt.
    City population 2, distance 11:
    [(25*11*8)/10]*,80*,85/(21+13)*2=2,19 = distance maintence is 2 gpt.
    City population 3, distance 11:
    [(25*11*9)/10]*,80*,85/(21+13)*2=2,46 = distance maintence is 2 gpt.
    City population 4, distance 11:
    [(25*11*10)/10]*,80*,85/(21+13)*2=2,75 = distance maintence is 2 gpt.
    City population 5, distance 11:
    [(25*11*11)/10]*,80*,85/(21+13)*2=3,00 = distance maintence is 3 gpt.
    City population 6, distance 11:
    [(25*11*12)/10]*,80*,85/(21+13)*2=3,29 = distance maintence is 3 gpt.
    Compared to distance 7 city.

    Code:
    City population 1, distance 7:
    [(25*7*7)/10]*,80*,85/(21+13)*2=1,20 = distance maintence is 1 gpt.
    City population 2, distance 7:
    [(25*7*8)/10]*,80*,85/(21+13)*2=1,40 = distance maintence is 1 gpt.
    City population 3, distance 7:
    [(25*7*9)/10]*,80*,85/(21+13)*2=1,56 = distance maintence is 1 gpt.
    City population 4, distance 7:
    [(25*7*10)/10]*,80*,85/(21+13)*2=1,75 = distance maintence is 1 gpt.
    City population 5, distance 7:
    [(25*7*11)/10]*,80*,85/(21+13)*2=1,91 = distance maintence is 1 gpt.
    City population 6, distance 7:
    [(25*7*12)/10]*,80*,85/(21+13)*2=2,09 = distance maintence is 2 gpt.

Heading back south...why? Did they come from the south or from the north. Wouldnt they want to find out more about the area or possibly reach the other teams.
