TF2 CFC Highlander-Discussion Thread

On Steam I am "The Assman", and I do have a mic. I can play any class besides Sniper and Spy.

I also have microphone capacity. I'm not very talkative though, beyond simple "spy as X" statements.

Just two more, although coordinating a time will probably be difficult.
If all goes well I wont have any daytime responsibilities for a time which would make things a bit easier :)
What is going to be our method for making the teams?

Who does/does not have voice communication capabilities?
I'm planning on getting a mic in the near future (next week)

Really Skwink, "The Assman"? :p
Kill fire and I collectively have 1, which he usually uses.
You and Kill fire are brothers?

Yeah they are.

Now I want to rant on weapons: mantreads and market gardeners. People go around saying that they are useless weapons, but I feel that they aren't given enough credit.

Aside from the style-points that you get from getting a kill with these weapons, they have specific uses.

First, the market gardener. There's a good reason why you would pick this thing over the Equalizer, and that's the 195 critical hit damage that you deal if you actually manage to hit someone. That soldier on the ledge raining death upon your teammates? JUMP UP THEIR AND WHACK'EM WITH THE MARKET GARDENER. The Cart needs to be stopped before it reaches the final point? Rocket jump to the damn thing and whack the freaking pyro pushing the cart with the market gardener for an almost-guarenteed instant kill.

Now mantreads. Now, you could argue that raining death upon your enemies WHILE dropping down on them from above is much more efficient than actually stepping on their head. And that's true, but it also has this nifty feature called -75% knockback. YOU CAN WALK UP TO LEVEL 3 SENTRY WHILE UBERED AND IT WILL BARELY SLOW YOU DOWN.

You know how even level 1 sentrygun has enough knockback to launch you into the air if it gets you while rocket jumping? With these shoes, you can ignore that and just drop two rockets while you airstrafe around them to kill both the engineer and the sentry gun.

Level 3 Sentry Gun? WIthout mantreads, they push you around everywhere, making your aim terrible. Mantreads allow you to ignore that, allowing you to focus more on killing it. With a medic buffing you, you can actually kill a level 3 sentry gun, even if it starts firing at you.
(I wouldn't recommend taking this over the Shotgun, arguably Solly's best secondary, if you play seriously though, although it is a good alternative to the banners if you use them)

Besides, it's fun using these weapons. If you don't try to use these weapons, you'll never become good at it, and you'll miss out on crazy moments like these: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CrkMNMb7w0k

TF2's not like the other shooters. While you have the option of pointing your crosshair towards the general direction of your enemy and clicking M1 to attain victory over your enemies, you also have the option of rocket jumping your way to victory.

The point is, there are crazy things you can do in this game. Learning how to do these things are, I think, an integral part of the game.

I agree, but unfortunately they are overshadowed by the other gear you can use as the Soldier.

The Market Gardener is good in the 1-in-30 rounds that you get a kill with it, but I honestly see the Equalizer or Disciplinary Action as being more important. The former allows you to retreat easily and save a death; however, the DA allows your entire team to reach the crucial middle skirmish first, allowing you to take the best positions available.

I'm also one to think that the Soldier requires a shotgun as a backup, especially after a rocket launch maneuver.

Yeah, Valve did not balance weapons very well.

Take Third Degree. Is it a good weapon? Yah kidding? It's amazing. Not only is it a good application of instant damage to pick off targets weakened by the flamethrower, it's also able to kill medics hiding behind his patient away from the reaches of a flamethrower particle.

Problem with it is that it's not the axtinguisher. That's the only problem it has.

I personally never use axtinguishers. It kills so quickly that it doesn't give you any satisfaction from that kill. I'm one of those hipster pyros who swear by Power Jack, Third Degree, and Homewrecker. All amazing weapons hampered by the fact that it's not axtinguisher.

Same with Solly melee and secondary.

Why woul you ever give up on Equalizer and Shotgun?

There are situations in which I killed a heavy's medic with the mantreads, rocket jumped immediately to tackle kill a scout with the market gardener, and immediately died due to a pyro afterburn.

If I had a shotgun and Equalizer, I could have probably killed the pyro and the heavy too, simply because I wouldn't have been trying to land on someone's head and would have been droppin rockets instead, finishing off any wounded with the shotgun and then running away with the equalizer. Disciplinary action is another one. You give up a negligible spot onthe melee slot to get a weapon that can speedboost everyone: a massive tactical advantage. Other solly melees pale in comparison. With the possible exception of spy, a weapon that is "just generally best for every situation and there is no reason not to take" or simply "Just Damn Too Good" exists for every single class.

Jacknife's my profile name.

Nowadays you can find me trolldiering in Hightower.

yeah... that doesn't really help... there are a lot of Jacknifes for some reason..

my account = May_or, profilename = mayor

My Steam profile is Kill the Strelok and I do have access to a mic.

On the contrary, I disagree. I can get great satisfaction from a great Axtinguisher kill. Knowing that I have the capacity to take down a Heavy-Medic in just a few seconds, and having done that before and living to tell the tale, can be very satisfying. Burning is fun, but doing 195 damage in one swing and chopping down enemies by the block is even moreso.

I was being psychopathic, like the pyro.

Now I must go practice my 360 degree no scope axtinguisher kill.

Degreaser + Axtinguinsher never gets old for me.

Any objections?

I did make sure that Zack and Sonereal were on separate teams, as they are the two "maybes", but other than that it was Random.org

You put all the spy mains in one team?

I can play anything besides engy, heavy, and scout decently. I think that helps.

This. Try randomizing it while taking everyone's preferred roles into consideration.

I said a while ago that I'm best at Heavy, and also pretty good at Medic and Pyro, and decent at a few other classes.
