TGOM03 - Celts in Space (C3C Demi-god)

All I can say is..."WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" :woohoo:

So i relieve him of it for Combustion then sucker him back in to the war.
I noticed the gold jumped by over 1,000 between pix on the same turn, then spotted your comment. :p Good work, Bede!!! :goodjob:

Yep, Scout deserves the honor of doing in Washington. I couldn't have done my part if he hadn't set me up so well. Are we going to keep New Orlean's and Smith's? That's always my favorite wonder for all the maintenance it saves, but I suppose it might be hard to defend. I can't believe we've done so well.

Forget Smith's. We only need it because I have overbuilt on harbors.....

A fast space victory comes when you spend everything you can on research. That means no gold for multipler buildings to work on. Hence, no need for the buildings and the advantage of owning Smith's diminishes.

Bede said:

Er... umm... sorry boss. That was the one thing I didn't sack.

But if it makes you feel any better, I left the good General a nice dicey situation to contend with. The American cultural border didn't retreat one whit after I sacked Chicago... which leaves some slugging on the way to Boston...

Dispatches shortly.

Pre-flight check:

Scroll through our cities for the heck of it...though there's not much need when following Bede...though I do wake a stack of workers to clean up pollution at Scoutsrest. Note that the 'muricans have Flight. Fat lot of good it'll do 'em.

American Wonders include Shakespeare's Theater, Sistine Chapel, Great Wall, and Hanging Gardens at Washington. Smith's Trading Company is located at New Orleans. Other top cities in F11 include Boston, Houston, and Chicago. Those must go.

Wake up some settlers and move 'em towards our new holdings. Did anybody notice that we've got a Barb camp on some ivory? Really now...those barbarians can be dangerous on rails! (no, not really... but I still think it's funny to see those little buggers on rails...) Still, I plan to deal with those before somebody else hits the Modern Era.

Start SETI in GOC. Hire some specialists and bump science to get Rockets in 5.

IBT - We lose our supply of Gems. Hannibal wants Flight for Gems. That's a little rich for my blood. A barbarian pokes his head out of the fog near Auda City.

Turn 1/1405 move some troops, do some worker stuff. Carthage no longer has gems available to trade. Play whack-a-barb with a tank for a guaranteed promotion.

IBT - a couple of American naval units drop off some infantry near Task Force Beltway Bandits (the group about to sack Washington).

Turn 2/1410 Artillery hammers away at Washington.
Idioticum foudned. BarbCamp founded.

I do lose one tank at Washington... but

TGOM3_sack_washington.jpg

IBT - We build some stuff, and I queue up a few more settlers.

Turn 3/1415 F8 check shows American Culture at 46,545, ours at 12,342.

Bombing runs on New Orleans kill some citizens and destroy some improvements. When the town hit size 2, I knew I would be going for Smith's this turn.

TGOM3_got_smiths.jpg

Spend a bunch of gold cash rushing a bunch of stuff. Mostly banks in our core.

IBT - something interesting finally happens. Apparently I left an angle open for ol' Abe, because he sneaked a Cavalry in there, captured (and disbanded) a bunch of workers, and torched a town I founded last turn. I was so [pissed] I forgot to take a screenie.

Better get your licks in while you can, Abe. We will make you pay for that atrocity.

Apparently he wants New Orleans back rather badly, as he advances 8 Infantry and 4 Guerillas on the town. What a pity they're in range of the Artillery I advanced on Houston... :mischief:

Turn 4/1420 F8 Check: Abe's Culture - 46,676 to our 12,541. We are catching the runaway.

Though it'll slow the offensive, the troops Abe has in our territory reflect 10% of his remaining Infantry, Two-thirds of his Guerillas, and his only remaining Cavalry. They die this turn.

SaltPeter Salient founded.

Dial up Hannibal and sell him Salt+Coal+Ivory for 9gpt. Dial up France and sell Ivory for 12gpt.

Serious Happiness problems at the end of this turn. Rush a harbor in Alalah. I am forced to hire some clowns, but it doesn't keep me from getting Aluminum next turn. Rush a market in Curovernum.

Start a palace in Richborough as a pre-build for the Internet.

IBT - American Infantry die attacking a couple of Guerillas on our picket line, but manage to pick off a tank. Rocketry comes in, set queue to Pitchblende. I can't seem to get it faster than 7 turns. America advances 3 more Infantry on New Orleans.

Turn 5/1425 Time to put the wood to ol' Abe.

After lobbing a lot of artillery and dropping a lot of bombs, this is the tactical situation in Houston.

What would you do?

TGOM3_at_Houston.jpg

That's what I thought.

TGOM3_sack_houston.jpg

I found a couple more towns this turn... mainly to consolidate the lines in our American holdings. Before I end this turn, I wake some Cavalry and Pillage Abe's Rubber. Then I pillage all the railroads and roads headed into Izumo, and put defensive units there.

Though his trade routes aren't cut off, his resupply lines are. Abe cannot reinforce his Punic Task Forces without sending them through me.

IBT - Americans advance 4 Infantry against Auda City.

Turn 6 - Simultaneously advance forces on Miami and Detroit. Pillage some stuff. Abe's japanese holdings are nearly cut off from what's left of his core.
Hannibal owns Leptis Minor for the first time in a long, long time.

IBT - Abe attacks some of our positions to no avail. Americans advance 3 Frigates and a Galleon towards Noose Beach.

Turn 7/1435 After numerous bombing runs I sink the 3 Frigates and Galleons. The F3 check tells me a single Infantryman went down with the Galleon. I should know better than to chase strays, even if the risk is zero. The rest of the bombers pound Miami. Advance troops on Detroit.

Where was I? Oh yeah - Turn 7 (Continued...)

Dial up Joanie. This is a little more like it.

TGOM3_combustion_to_France.jpg

Rush a market in Noviomagus (serious happiness problems).

IBT - Abe sends the first Bomber I've seen. Silly AI. All you're doing is telling me where to put my Flak.

Turn 8/1440

After blistering Air Raids over Miami, and a thumpa-thumpa-thumping of Artillery at Detroit, I get a MGL at Detroit. I decide to name this one for a teammate's cat. If Harriet doesn't have a cat named Scruffy, she'll just have to adopt another cat. (Scruffy kills two 'murican Infantrymen this turn.)

TGOM3_Scruffy.jpg

...and a Veteran Tank "finishes the drill" at Detroit.

TGOM3_Detroit.jpg

...meanwhile, our "First Armored" has its way at Miami.

TGOM3_Miami.jpg

...meanwhile, our "Second Armored" arrives in the New World....

TGOM3_2nd_armor.jpg

Oh yeah - Rusicade is Carthaginian again.

IBT - we build some stuff.

Turn 9/1445 We lose a Bomber to an American fighter over Chicago.

ToeTheLine founded. BuildTheLine founded.

This oughta give Abe's Frigates something to contend with.

TGOM3_Oil_to_Carthage.jpg

FuzzyWuzzy founded on a site that claims some furs. LeftCoast founded on a site that cuts off the American North and South once and for all.

IBT - Pretty sad when I'm watching the Carthaginian advances IBT, huh team? Hannibal marched his elephants into Yokohama IBT.

Turn 10 - After our Bombers blister Abe's backside, I sack Chicago. Probably the last time I get to sack something this turnset.

TGOM3_sack_Chicago.jpg

After Action Review:

The good: I ripped ol' Abe a new one. :D

The bad: American cultural borders completely surrounded our troops, even after I sacked Chicago. @General Mahem: You may need to proceed methodically towards Boston, but Boston must be sacked.

The ugly: War weariness is starting to kick in, and the alliances will last through your turnset, Mon General. Good luck!

Some notes:
  • Palace in Richborough is a pre-build for the Internet.
  • Let TJ'ville build the UN after we get fission.
  • I left the MGL from "Scruffy" in GOC. We could use it to rush the Apollo Program. (Bede - thoughts?)

Here's >> The Save <<

I have the save, but won't have a chance to look at it until sometime this afternoon.

Great turnset, Scout! Very exciting!!! More additions to the Rock City campaign. :D

If Harriet doesn't have a cat named Scruffy, she'll just have to adopt another cat.
Actually there's a beautiful gray cat who's adopted us recently who was looking for a name...Scruffy it shall be. Too bad our 6 indoor cats won't allow her in the house.

Six, six indoor cats!!! OMG!

Guess that's on a par with my five terriers, a Gordon Setter and a Saluki, though. Ah, sweet memories.

@Scout... I think you loaded Bede's save. It's for 1400AD. I took a look, and Washington still stands and we don't own New Orleans. I think it should be 1450AD.

Yep, its definitely Bede's 1400 A.D. save.

lurker's comment: I'm confused (again). Harriet is having "ideas" and scout is playing straightforward whomp the 'muricans? :crazyeye: ;) Fun game to follow. Someday, I'll find my C3 disc....

I have it, will probably play sometime tomorrow.

Turn log

Turn 0 (1450 A.D.)

Hit enter

Turn 1 (1455 A.D.)

Scoutsrest finishes MI, starts Tank, Love Shack finishes library, starts bomber, Last Resort finishes harbor, starts tank. Bomb and kill 2 guerillas near Toetheline. Move the stack towards Boston. Not totally sure why we
have a cruiser in the middle of nowhere, head him towards the american coast to do some bomardment. Have to raise lux to 20% to deal with WW.

Turn 2 (1460 A.D.)

Fission comes in, start on Space Flight due in 8, then realize when the pre-build for the internet is going to finish and switch to miniaturization, also due in 8. Nemausus finishes stock exchange, starts tank. We get the Wall Street message. Love shack riots despite the fact that it wasn't going to when I hit enter... Harrietsburg finishes mech, starts tank, Deva finishes settler, starts another, Glevum finishes harbor, starts bomber. We have 3 sources of uranium. Start Tjville on the UN. I wouldn't want to be a resident of Boston right now, the bombing campaign is killing citizens and ruining infrastructure left and right. Switch Nemausus to Wall Street for some extra income.

Turn 3 (1465 A.D.)

Lezoux finishes settler, starts another. Combined artillery and bomber action at boston results in this:
boston.JPG
Which then results in this:
fallofboston.JPG
Boston nets us 3 slaves, on to St. Louis and the pesky bomber that I strongly suspect is based there.

Turn 4 (1470 A.D.)

Nineveh finishes market, starts bomber, Scoutsrest finishes tank, starts another, Salt Poach finishes stock exchange, starts tank, Last resort finishes tank, starts another. Mass pollution has broken out on our home continent. Joan just destroyed her rep as she signs a peace treaty with dishonest Abe.

Turn 5 (1475 A.D.)

Cuzco finishes market, starts Library, Camulodunum finishes commercial dock, starts tank, Bugsrest finishes Civil defense, starts tank, Lurkersville finishes stock exchange, starts tank, Harrietsburg finishes tank, starts another. One of our cruisers catches and sinks a privateer.

Turn 6 (1480 A.D.)

Entremont finishes University, starts tank, Tolosa finishes University, starts tank, Deva finishes settler, starts another. Combined artillery and bomber bombardment of St.Louis (size 9) results in this:
stlouis.JPG
Which natuarally results in this:
fallofstlouis.JPG
We get a free artillery piece, and the southern half of the continent is now free for settling. Found Spacefiller and Spacehog to take up some of the area.

Turn 7 (1485 A.D.)

SETI.JPG
Flak FINALLY shoots down a bomber after only about 20 opportunities. GOC starts stock exchange, Swamptown finishes settler, starts another, Scoutsrest finishes tank, starts another, Incense desert finishes market, starts bomber, Salt Poach finishes tank, starts another, same for Last Resort. Small american fleet shows up on the east side of our southern island. Start a few cruise missles so that I have something lying around to finish off the
next group of intruders. Airlift 3 tanks to the island, and then kill a couple american infantry in the old japanese territories.

Turn 8 (1490 A.D.)

wallstreet.JPG
Hattusha finishes artillery, starts a cruise missle, Nemausus starts cruise missle, Mayhemium finishes stock exchange, starts cruise missle, Harrietsburg finishes tank, starts cruise missle, Bede's abbey finishes stock exchange, starts cruise missle, InYourFace finishes courthouse, starts cruise missle, Winehill finishes settler, starts another. Use the tried and true artillery followed by bombers method to empty Izumo, then the remaining bombers catch a bomber on the ground in tokyo. Autoraze Izumo. Our frigate catches the redlined american fleet and sinks a frigate.

Turn 9 (1495 A.D.)

The spice deal with joan expired, so renew for all our luxes, iron, and 100 gold. Vilcas finishes settler, starts another, Camalodunum finishes tank, starts another, Zariqum finishes harbor, starts temple, Lurkersville finishes tank, starts another, Monguntiacum finishes settler, starts another, Rubber City finishes courthouse, starts temple. Lose our frigate trying to take out another redlined frigate. Sell MT to hannibal for gems, 862 gold, ironclads, and 100 gpt, then dial up joan and sell it to her for commie and 50 gold. Wipe the garrison of Satsuma out, and take tokyo from a size 12 city down to a size 4 defended by only a redlined guerilla with just artillery and bomber, then send in the tanks, razing both Satsuma and tokyo. Found Fillerville and Morefiller on the south end of the american continent.

Turn 10 (1500 A.D.)

Miniaturization comes in, start on Spaceflight. Babylon finishes library, starts cruise missle, Nemausus finishes cruise missle, starts tank, Scoutsrest finishes tank, starts another, same for Entremont, Cronium finishes bank, starts stock exchange, Bugsrest finishes tank, starts another, Harrietsburg finishes cruise missle, starts battleship, Salt Poach finishes tank, starts another, same for Last resort, Deva finishes settler, starts another, Jungle East finishes market, starts cruise missle. Kill an infantry in Nara? (getting kind of sleepy and the town didn't last too long) and raze it, sending a significant portion of the american fleet to the bottom in the process.

Things to note:

There is a transport being used as a settler ferry between Hattusha and Dangit, keep this going to fill in the space left by razing the American cities. There are 2 Mech Infantry fortified on the southern tip of the carthaginian continent, they are keeping a barbarian invasion in check, please leave them there. Nagoya is set up to fall next turn, and the bombers are based on the airfield within range of Edo, so within 2-3 turns America will no longer be on that continent and we could probably sign peace with them to get lux back down to 0 or 10. WW isn't horrible, mainly due to the fact that we took 0 land losses and only 1 sea loss. If the american fleet shows back up I kept a stack of artillery on our main continent and there are 2 cruise missles near Nemausus. I took care of MM'ing the specialists to maximize income and still get space flight in 7.

The Save

Sounds like you've done a great job, General M! :goodjob:

Without having looked at the save yet, this sounds like a good plan to me. I did look at Scout's last save, and I'm betting Abe is no longer a cultural threat and, once he's gone from the main continent, we'd be doing major island-hopping if we attempted to finish him off. It seems our resources could be better used in speeding up research for our SS launch.

This is a got it, but I'd like input from the rest of the team. I'll look at the save and probably be back with additional comments/questions.

Of course you "could" just continue heading north into carthage and get us a dom win within 25 turns... :mischief:
