To be honoust, the first Uderzo solo albums were fair, but I refuse to believe you enjoyed this Asterix on Atlantis craphola.

Rene Goscinny was simply a great historian who was extremely gifted in mixing up historical fact, historical fiction and our present day situation. Unmatched!

Yeah, the Atlantis one was quite...odd.

Horrible. Though admittedly not as horrible as the ones before.
Especially the translation is now back to high standard - of course, that only serves to depict how horrible the last ones in the German edition were....

Asterix has gone terribly wrong with the death of Goscinny. The first couple after his death were okay but my guess is that Uderzo had Goscinny's scripts to work with.

I'll have to look one day at the English translation... Especially for Asterix in Corsica, my fav by very far, but is it also great in English ?

It's too bad Asterix is not as popular over here. I guess most Americans don't have the historical background to get the jokes.
I haven't read the post Goscinny books. Weren't they going to stop?

It was quite a surprise that this one came out. Everyone thought that Latraviata would have been the last. Obviously the Goscinny albums were the peak of Astérix, but I'm with Rambuchan, I'll always love Astérix. And Obélix, don't forget the character who truly owns the show, damn it!!
But yeah, since at least "The Rose..." in the early 90s, Uderzo lost a "bit" of the plot. Regarding this one, I haven't seen it yet (it only came out today, duh!), but I heard there are aliens visiting the village.

Btw, you can see the first page here. Sorry, but they only seem to have the french version. Apparently Obélix's favourite mammals are frozen in a sort of state of shock, and are hard as stone. The birds don't sing, something weird is happening in the forest. Astérix feels that something very wrong is happening and they better return home quickly. Of course Obélix ain't happy that they didn't hunt anything.

Hmm... this can really coincide with the story I heard about the aliens. Gosh, did Uderzo really put aliens in the album?... What historical connection could this have?

I like them all but Asterix is much funnier in its home tongue. The names are funnier.
I read somewhere that the character names in the English versions are different from the American names. I have only ever read the French and UK publications and see the difference in names there but they still translate reasonably well and are still funny. I have been told the US names are not as amusing.
