The Academy II: Development Thread

Eragon universe with Riders (limited magic), Dragons (seperate, allied players) Urgals and spell weavers and berzerkers!

Yeah-no.

Hehe.

Spewing here: Lord of the Rings, City of masks, various Harry Turtledove books with intrigue.

Legends of Civoria? Oh how I really want to share the history of that. But I can't yet.

Hmmm... 1984, prisoners pitted to the death to be cleansed!

Someone else could just host it if you really want it to be Star Wars.

I'd be willing to host The Academy II, if people are still interested.

As for another setting i'd go with LOTR.

I'm thinking of hosting a quest based Star Wars game, updates would be kind of like this. Game would be like a mix of ATPG's Star Wars Mafia on .org, Snakes and Foxes, and an RPG. However, due to my time constraints, it would have to move at a snail's pace. Here is what I have come up with so far.

Spoiler :
Lightsaber Forms

Spoiler :
Form I

Spoiler :
formi.png

Shii-Cho

Form I is the most basic of the seven forms and is learned by every Jedi Youngling. Shii-Cho includes the fundamental elements of all the lightsaber forms, including the basic attack, parry, body target zones, and practice drills called velocities.

Form II

Spoiler :
formii.png

Makashi

Form II represents the ultimate refinement of lightsaber-to-lightsaber combat. Masters of Makashi develop unique offenses and defenses and train studiously against having their sabers taken or damaged.

Form III

Spoiler :

Soresu

Form III was first developed in response to the advancement of blaster technology in the galaxy. Soresu's emphasis on tight, efficient movements that expose very minimal target areas make it the most defensive and passive of the seven forms.

Form IV

Spoiler :
formiv.png

Ataru

Form IV is the most acrobatic of all the forms and requires a Jedi to first master the Force Run, Jump, and Spin abilities. By incorporating all the Force powers that allow a Jedi to exceed standard norms of physical abilities, Jedi may resemble nothing less than a blur when using this style.

Form V

Spoiler :
formve.png

Shien/Djem So

Form V was also created in response to the advancement and frequency of blaster use in the galaxy. Unlike the strictly defensive style Soresu, Shien exploits the ability of a lightsaber to block blaster bolts and deflect them back at an opponent in a counter-attack maneuver. In a duel, the Djem So variation of this form, which focused on strength, would be used.

Form VI

Spoiler :
formvi.png

Niman

Form VI seeks to balance the emphases of forms I through V. Niman allows a Jedi to fight with harmony and justice without having to resort to powerful, aggressive movements or overt emotion.

Form VII

Spoiler :
formvii.png

Juyo/Vaapad

Juyo instead employs bold, direct movements, more open and kinetic than form V, but not so elaborate as the acrobatic form Ataru. Juyo requires greater energy and intensity out of the practitioner because his focus is wielded more broadly and draws upon from a deeper well of emotion; while the outward bearing of a Form VII practitioner is one of calm, the inner pressure verges on explosive. It was also considered to be the most dangerous in regard to falling to the Dark Side, because it required a certain amount of enjoyment in the fight from the person experiencing it.

The players would be split into teams/factions as well.

I will be hosting The Academy II sometime next year. It will be loosely based on the amazing game Infinity Blade, and by loosely based, I mean I will mainly just be using the items found in the game, not the incredibly simple "story", setting, or gameplay.

Just an update -- I will be hosting this game this year*, and I've been doing some work on it. The next post will be what I have so far. Note that it is subject to change, but the awesome contained will always stay intact. :D

If you are interested in the game and want to try and reserve a spot in advance (since spots are so few), then please send me a PM or VM (VM is preferred due to storage reasons). Note that reserving a spot in advance requires my approval, and if there are more than ten requests (doubtful), I'll pick and choose. Please don't be offended if I reject your bid for a reservation.

Also, if you are interested in being my assistant, then please send me a PM or VM (VM is preferred due to storage reasons). Note that applying for this job obviously requires my approval, and if there are multiple requests (doubtful), I'll pick and choose. Please don't be offended if I reject your request.

*This game is not The Academy II. I doubt that game will ever come.

Based on the award-winning iOS game Infinity Blade

"Assemble your positions, men!"

The General could smell victory, now. For sixteen years, he had led the forces of good in the struggle for power over the land against the armies of the tyrannical God King. By now, the once fledgling revolt had evolved into a full-scale rebellion. The General had won a string of victories recently, now knocking on the doors of the God King's castle, almost literally.

The General - or, by his given name, Tantsven - wasn't sure how to proceed from this point. No one had ever made it this far before. No one had any idea what horrors may lie ahead. Perhaps it would be wise to send some scouts to check out the castle before he led the rest of his forces into the great unknown.

Tantsven turned around, looking to see where his best men were. They would be the ones to go up into the castle. Topple the God King. Save the world.

General Tantsven raised his voice to address the crowd. "Would the following please come forward? I have a most... difficult, yet rewarding, task for them..."

Welcome to The Deathless!

Really, Zack? You're basing this off of an iOS game? Hey, it's not like it's based on Angry Birds. If you have a problem with the game this is based off of, then just imagine it as a generic fantasy universe. That wouldn't be too far off.

What exactly is this game? In a nutshell, this game is a cross between The Academy, Snakes and Foxes, and Infinity Blade, plus a hint of Resident Evil, with some of my own added elements.

What type of person will like this game? The type of person who would venture into Forum Games and click this thread in the first place (you :D)! If you like mafia, NOTW, The Academy, Snakes and Foxes, Infinity Blade, the Resident Evil game by ATPG, or even if you just like the people in Forum Games -- you will love this game.

How many people do you want for this game? As many as I can get, really. Actually, that may be a little deceiving. I will only accept a maximum of ten Heroes, both for game balance and for my sake, but I will accept an unlimited number of Guards. Those terms are meaningless to you now, but they won't be after you read the rules. I'm not going to do any advertising outside of putting a link in my signature, so if you want your friends to play - invite them! Because of these limitations, I only want players who will be active and dedicated. Don't sign up if you aren't very interested in playing or can't be counted on to be active!

What will the time commitment be? Significant. However, if you really want to play now, but don't have the time, there's no need to worry. You can join in the game at any time.

To be frank, Zack, that opening write-up above sucked. What gives? As paltry as that was, I assure you that the rest of the write-ups will be plenty juicy.

Are you qualified to host this? What have you hosted before? I'm rather confident in my abilities, as are the general Forum Games population. Games that I've hosted on CFC include: Star Wars Mafia: A New Hope, The Academy: The Sith Lords, Beatles Mafia: The Long and Winding Road, Zack Mafia, and Large Mafia Game: The Princess Bride.

I'm sold already! Where do I sign up and what do I do? Great! Just read the rules below, particularly the part about signing up. Follow the instructions given in that section and you're all set. The game starts [date when game starts]. Until that time, you can continue to post in this thread, ask questions, and talk with your fellow players.

Is there anything I can do to help you host this game, Zack? Why, yes! I'm looking for an assistant. If you're willing to be my assistant, then you can say as much in this thread. Don't worry about not being able to play, either. There will be a special place in the game for my assistant, and for that matter, myself.

Spoiler :
Game Rules

1. Observe all of the CFC forum rules. In particular, don't you dare flame other players or otherwise throw out insults, veiled or not. I will toss you out of the game if you insult another player. I'll be more tolerant if you insult me, but insulting your fellow players is unacceptable. If you are banned from the forums, I will also toss you out. If you are tossed out, I will try and find a replacement as soon as I can.

2. Private communication outside the thread about the game is not allowed unless specified exactly by the game host. No seriously. Heroes will have their own QuickTopic, and Guards that are in the same room may set up a QuickTopic or communicate privately if they wish. Outside of those two exceptions, there will be absolutely no out-of-thread communication.

3. Screenshots or quoting/full revealing your Character Card is also explicitly banned, both inside and out of the thread. However, you may tell people your name, your general objective, and what items or weapons you have, at your own peril. Just do not copy/paste your Role PM/Character Card, and do not ask anyone to reveal theirs.

4. There is a reasonable chance, if you're a Hero, that you will die in this game. And if you're a Guard, there is an extremely high chance that you will die. It's not the end of the world. And, in this case, it's probably not the end of the game either. You can continue to play as a Guard (this applies to both Heroes and Guards), provided you were awesome in your previous life in regard to the rules. You will maintain your previous role for end-of-game purposes (unless you started out as a Guard) -- this is just for your fun.

5. If you have a question regarding the game, please ask it in this thread (the sign-up thread). I would like to keep the game thread as in-context as possible.

6. All phases will be timed and based on either a 24 or 48 hour length, with the time adjusted to meet US Central Standard Time, which is GMT - 6 hours. I will not end the phases early unless all orders are in. I may extend the phase, due to either lack of orders or my own personal need to do so.

Basic Overview

The setting of the game is the God King's castle, which is rather large. A rebellion has formed to fight against the tyrant named the God King, and it has won a string of victories, completely annihilating all of the God King's armies outside of his castle. The rebellion's army is fatigued, weak, and few in number at this point. The only obstacle left is the God King himself, and whatever abominations and monsters he has placed in the castle.

There may also be untold and unknown of horrors down in the dungeons of the castle...

The leader of the rebellion's forces has decided to dispatch a group of ten elite warriors, aptly named Heroes, to venture into the castle and eliminate the evil forces within. They will be supplied with money and a ample array of weapons to choose from, which they will have to purchase of course.

The main enemies of the Heroes will be the Guards, creatures loyal to the God King who will do whatever they can to protect him. The Heroes must fight through these Guards and kill all of them before they advance into the God King's chamber, where they will fight the God King himself and his most loyal servant, the Dark Knight.

After the God King and his servant are defeated, the Heroes must then descend into the dungeons below to rid the world of evils far, far worse than the God King.

The Deathless.

The Factions

Heroes: Playable, but only ten slots are available. Ten elite warriors devoted to the rebellion, to overthrow the God King -- these are the main protagonists. They must fight through the castle and kill all of the Guards before they can advance to the God King's throne room/chamber. The Heroes will receive funds from the rebellion as they make their way through the castle, but a large part of their earnings will most likely be scavenging the items and money of slaughtered enemies. Unless they choose to plunder and murder their own allies, of course. After defeating the God King and his servant, the Dark Knight, the Heroes will then descend down into the castle dungeons, where they will attempt to conquer the incredibly powerful, incredibly evil forces contained there -- potentially with the God King's assistance. The ultimate goal of the Heroes is to conquer the Deathless that await them in the dungeons.

Guards: Playable, and with many, many slots available. The Guards are plentiful and abide in the castle, sworn to do their best to protect and guard the castle from any who wish to harm it. There will be a set number of Guards in each location in the castle, and the Guards come in three varieties: Medium, Large, and Huge. There are specific types of Guards within each subset, described in more detail later on. If a Hero dies during the game, that player may choose to come back into the game as a Guard.

The Dark Knight: Playable by my assistant only. A Large Guard, more powerful than any of the regular Guards. The Dark Knight is the God King's most loyal servant, and by far his most awesome.

The God King: Playable by myself only. The tyrant who has ruled over the land for hundreds of years. His motives are unknown, besides his desire for power. Some way or another, he has managed to imprison his fellow Deathless down in the castle dungeons. He possesses the Infinity Blade, a sword of unbelievable power. The Infinity Blade is necessary for entrance into the depths of the dungeons.

The Deathless: Unplayable by anyone. Next to nothing is known about these beings of incredible evil and power, besides the fact that they are incredibly evil and powerful.

Looks interesting! Wonder how exactly the sides are formed. Seems like a cross over between FFA and 3 teams.

Here is a (crappy Paint job) map. If anyone is able and willing to make a better one, then many thanks from myself to you.

Everyone starts on the very left.

I'm not sure how to represent the dungeons (directly below the room on the very right) and the God King's room (directly above the room on the very right).

Forget anything I said.

The Academy II will be coming to a Forum Games near you very soon. And it will certainly be Star-Wars oriented.
