The Alexander the Great Project!

I never had a real problem with the old Alexander, but so far, this is shaping up to be vastly superior (history-wise). Now the only real question is who the old one can double as.

I was actually thinking the same thing.

I am going to use him as a Leonidas LH for the time being.

Excellent work thus far. Looks incredibly good. Has anyone seen Roland around recently? I remember he was working on a new Alexander LH as well.

Well what I am going to do in my mod is use this as Alexander and then use the original one (with some modifications) as Ptolemy Soter for Egypt.

Alright, this is mostly for Ekmek here; should I go ahead and put this working model on the skeleton and send it over to you for extra work? Or did you want to wait to see what you can do about custom animations first? I am not sure what we should do from this point actually. If you want me to put him on the skeleton now I will make a few edits to the arms (I'll probably make them a bit skinnier for example). But I don't want to waste my time if you don't think this is a good model so far. I am referring to my last posted image actually.

the model is a great starrt. I might redo the head though. but rig the body and arms I can go for the ones you have (I may adjust). I'm also going to try this with the new blender 2.49 so it might take me a it. Also what animations do we want for him (non custom) pick any you want I can make the adjustments too.

If we use custom animations (which I understand would be a tall order) is there a way we could have him "approach" the camera wearing this helmet, and then remove it and hold it under his arm or whatever (like a [American] football)?

Okay, I'll have that ready for you in a few days. I certainly think the head needs a restructure, but I think as a base it should work pretty well. It also doesn't have a neck right now so that may be something you can do if you want, I am pretty bad at adding things like that (or scalps for instance) and you seem to be better at that.

i'm in if you'll take me.....i consider myself a strong skinner and pretty good "sculpter" in blender, but not a very good rigger/boner/animation person.....let me know how i can help :)

ps....here are some concepts for his armour. the pics seem pretty c/w the old mosaic smeagolheart posted, as well as from the new movie....

excellent bernie! Glad to see you on board! After I get capo's model I'll work on some rigging and shaping and pass it off to you.

excellent!!! :goodjob::goodjob:

Awesome! This is going to kick ass!!!

Before I start putting the model together I have a couple of questions; Should I give him sleeves or no sleeves? and, should I go ahead and try to make the helmet? Just in case?

Here's a picture of Colin Farrell, if it's any help.

Well, he is portrayed in that movie wearing a multitude of clothing. But thanks for the reference, do you think the LH will look better/more Greek without sleeves or with sleeves? Either way I am going to use a different version of sleeves than the one provided in the vanilla Alexander. Sleeves may actually be easier to put in (because it will require less work on the arms) but I kind of think he'd look better without sleeves. Its up to you guys though, I could go either way really.

I still have some work to do on this Helmet, but I think it looks cool so far. I have to make the face-guards a little smaller so you can see his face but I think in general its looking pretty close to the real thing. Check it out!

nice work on the helm!...i for one, would like to see the helm incorporated some how.....as for the sleeves/arms....it might be more realistic if he would be wearing some sort of undergarment under that armour, but....it would also look cool if he had some defined deltoids and biceps....he was supposed to be a well built, muscular guy

Ragnar does the approach the camera thing, and there is another leaderhead that removes his hat (I'm thinking of Lenin but he's not in vanilla but is based on someone else that is in vanilla though). Also, Pericles removes his helmet and stuff. If it's possible to grab parts of animations these guys have parts that may help.

You're talking about Churchill.

Well, if we are incorporating the helmet doesn't that require me to use a specific leader's animations? Or can I still work with what I have (which is the New Earth LH from Final Frontier, and thus Napoleon I think) and edit the animations later? I'd hate to waste time needlessly on this.

And I have decided to go with sleeves for our purposes here. I think the white/gold/red motif will look the best and make Alexander look more glorious.
