The Capo's LH Gallery and Self-Help Thread!

Having said that, I will FINALLY provide a Nasser the Arab world can be proud of.

Peace.

Funny to see the words "Nasser" and "Peace" so close together... :)
Anyway, Capo, I wanted to know whether you are still planning to make Tamerlane any time soon. I thought I might make something myself, but I do need more practice with Blender before I undertake such a project.

I hear that, the Blender I use now is different enough from the one I used before that even I need some time to learn all of it. I do plan on making a Tamerlane, but I have to reiderate that I am also working on a mod (which is what Tamerlane is for ultimately) so the speed at which I am going to be making these LHs will be slower than a usual pace. Before I put out 4 to 6 LHs at a time, and if you have noticed lately its been one or two at a time, which is probably what this will be like. Nasser is certainly next, and probably Maurits van Nassau, but I can't guarantee anything. We'll just have to see how quickly I adapt to the new Blender.

Either way though, Tamerlane won't be created for a while and by that I mean a couple of months.

I just updated the first page of this thread. The first post has my downloadable files, images of all my finished LHs, and some helpful links for people who want to get into LH making.

The second post will have the latest LH I have made, and the third post informs you about the LHs I am currently working on along with preview images and a list of things to come. Enjoy!

Wow !!! Soon you'll be in the race to outdone Ekmek in the LH count. No serously, quality is better than quantity and you have some "top quality goods" here (ref. a donkey merchant saying in Caesar III) .

Thanks for the vote of confidence, and I appreciate being compared to Ekmek in anyway but my skill level is still extremely low compared to Ekmek's, and I sincerely mean that. Right now the best help I can get is some help texturing Salamasina and Kamehameha, that would be VERY helpful to me. So if anyone has any artistic ability or wants to take a crack at them please let me know.

Before looking at the files, and based on the picture alone I think there are a few questions I have for you;

1) Did you import the entire Alexander model and edit the rest out or did you seperate the armor first and then import it? If you imported the whole Alexander model (and by that I mean into the Caesar model) you probably forgot to delete certain parts.

2) Did you conduct what we call a "NifSwap"?

I think what happened here is that you forgot to delete Alexander's eyes and mouth at some point, either that or you didn't pull a proper Nif Swap and that screwed it up. Which is fine, and easy to go back and fix. I'll take a closer look at it when I get a moment but for now those seem to be the issues here.

Answers on Questions:

1) I did not import him directly but deleted everything exept the armor and then imported him.

2) I'm pretty sure i conducted one of these NifSwap's.

Personally i think the problem lies in the Bones, which i deleted together with everything else when i made the armor. I don't understand what Ekmeks description of Select all these bones said at all.

so you imported alex and made a separate object of the armor and deleted all the objects and the skeleton, besides the armor, inobject mode? then exported the armor and iported the boneless armor into ceasear? if so it shouldnt be having these problems if not that maybe the source.

Still haven't looked at the files yet, but before I do I can almost guarantee you that those are Alex's eyes and Alex's teeth. What you have to do, using Blender at least, is import Alexander, select the entire breastplate (or whatever you need to use) then separate it. After you do that select whatevever it is you seperated and invert the selection so that everything else (including the bones and eyes and everything) is highlited and then delete that. Then EXPORT whatever is left (i.e. what you want to use) into a folder, call it whatever you want (I would call it ArmorCaesar or something). After you do that start up an entirely new file. After you start a new file IMPORT CAESAR, once Caesar is imported then import the armor. place the armor on Caesar properly (you might have to reshape it, I find it easiest to use the scale on axis feature but you can do whatever you want), after this is done rig it to the torso by selecting the entire thing (best to do this in edit mode), and then going into object mode, after that HOLD SHIFT and click on to caesar's body (anywhere will do) and JOIN THE OBJECTS, then go back into edit mode and in the bottom corner choose the torso "bone" and apply it to that. To see if this worked deselect EVERYTHING and then select everything rigged to the torso. If you did it correctly the armor will be highlited along with the rest of his torso. After this make sure you CTRL+A to apply the resizing (if you did any) and then export the nif into the same folder you imported the armor to (just to make it easier on you). You should also SAVE at this point just in case.

Then go into Nifskope and open the REGULAR JULIUS CAESAR nif. You should also open your exported nif (the one with the armor). This is important and I don't mean to be condescending by doing this, but you really need to read this part...

ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS SWAP THE ARMOR OVER TO THE ORIGINAL CAESAR, THAT'S IT. IF ALL YOU ARE DOING IS ADDING ARMOR THERE IS NO REASON TO SCREW AROUND WITH ANYTHING ELSE. JUST SELECT THE ARMOR FROM YOUR NIF, RIGHT CLICK AND COPY BRANCH, THEN GO TO THE TOP IN THE LEFT WINDOW THAT LISTS THE NODES AND RIGHT CLICK THE FIRST ROW AND PASTE BRANCH. IF YOU DID THIS CORRECTLY THAT SHOULD BE ALL YOU NEED TO DO.

That's basically it. Oh yeah, and I'd advise that you save the nif once the armor is on as something else, like "armored_casesar.nif" so you don't lose the original.

Sorry about all those big, bold, scary words, I was a little drunk there. Although that is sound advice so I'll leave it up.

Anyway I started working on Askia Muhammed and this is the mock up so far. I'm not sure if I am going to stick with this or switch it up, what do you guys think?

Looking pretty good.

Pretty sweet. I have no idea who he is based on, and those textures are very good as well.

Songhai king, known mainly for the monuments built for him.

I think he meant the base LH (who I used to make him), and in that case it is CFK's Scudder LH who appears to be an altered Zara Yaqob.

Looks very good. Is he going to be the leader of the Songhai or Mali?
Also, another question. I saw you're using for Maurits the armour from the Jean d'Arc LH. I am also trying to make a leader now with this armour. Anything I should know about it. Except for the fact I need to assemble it like a puzzle? Am I doing something really difficult or maybe it only looks scary to put it on a leader?

Yeah, its pretty difficult to work with, the size/shape is strange to manage too. I actually have used parts of it on other leaders (my Byzantine leader for example). I think it depends on how much of it you want to use. But its best to "assemble" it one part at a time to make sure it flows correctly rather than trying to fit the whole thing on at once, this way you can customize the shape of it to your LH. You might want to take a look at the King Arthur LH CFK made, I believe it uses the same armor.

It isn't as bad as it sounds though, the cuirass I am using on Maurits is one part of it, and then there are (I think) shoulder portions, bicep portions and forearm portions.

I'm not sure what you have in mind for the body, but as I was looking at it, I thought that perhaps a beadless Asoka would blend in well. The neckline looks similar to the scarf that Askia's already wearing, the style of the collar looks like it could be related to the later Mansa Musa design, and the simplicity of the robe would help communicate the idea that this is an earlier and slightly less-prosperous leader of the Mali.
