I like the idea of adding Italy and Canada, since it's suppose to be about more modern times and having all G8 nations helps with that feel.

It's ridiculous that players without gathered 30 posts are allowed to voting

Why? Their opinions are just as valid as yours. Lord Zath has only 15 posts, but he/she has been here before you. Maybe, eventhough LZ has hardly any posts, he/she has more civ experience and intelligence than both of us combined!

Just cause you have 500 posts doesn't mean your a more valuable member of the forums who has the most important opinions.

perhaps their votes should be discounted?

Same goes to you.

I believe "Native americans" is confirmed so there you have 7.

Israel as civ is a joke. How could it be that mighty Assyria is not in the game, but puny Israel is? Simply ridiculous.

I think it is a good idea that Native americans would be united as a one civ. But their leader should be Tecumseh. He tried to unite all Native American tribes, so he would make an excellent leader.

1. Sweden - Not that we deserve it but we have influenced world history a lot more than the Poles! Without us we would all still be papists and covet to Rome! (some may still consider this a good thing, especillay the Poles I suspect)

2. Byzantium - For crying out loud this empire took over where Rome left off and carried the torch for another 1000 years until finally annihilated by the Ottomans. If they are in it, surely there predecessors who they based their governance on should be!

3. Austria (The Habsburgs) - Good arguably be considered to be part of the ethnic "german" nation, but there was so much more to this nation over its lifetime and if there should be any eastern (central) european civ included here's the best choice.

4. Sumerians - Gave us writing, there's a legacy to be proud of!

5. Babylonians - Another great ancient civ...

6. Khmers - The perfect Asian builder civ to counter all aggressive civs in the game!

7. Hebrews (ancient Israel, not the modern country) - Well although the country never influenced the world greatly the diaspora of jews certainly have benefitted humanity greatly as scientist, artist and other "great persons"! Proportionally the jewish contribution to our common knowledge base is certainly a solid argument for a civ of its own! The hebrews are not a joke at all compared to countries like Poland, Brazil or Albania!!! (I'm not jewish btw)

I left out the Mayans on purpose as I'm sure they will be included anyway and don't need my vote. Some other native american civ (siouxs or Iroqois) will probably also be included to be politically correct but this would be wrong in my opinion.

Well, my friend; The puny Israel has been kicking every neighbours butt for quit some time, so there might be a little arrogant to call them that. ;) You can't love every civ in the game, and I sence to feel your not all objective in this valuation.
I think they have a signifficant impact on the region, and should be in the game.
That Assyria should be in there to, might be correct, but i think Israel represents a religion that has no other civ in the game yet. All the other religions does.

Well, I'm guessing your hostility to Israel is far from rational, but the Hebrews/Israel:

1) Have lasted a LOT longer than Assyria. The first Hebrew commonwealth (including the era of the Judges, and the united/divided monarchy) lasted from approximately 1300 b.c.e. to 586 b.c.e. (in which, incidentally, the Kingdom of Judah defeated the Assyrians). The second Hebrew commonwealth (which emerged after defeating the Syrian Greeks) lasted from 140 b.c.e to 37 b.c.e. (followed by a series of revolts that came close to defeating Rome). And the third Hebrew commonwealth (modern Israel) has lasted almost 60 years and emerged as a regional powerhouse. That's 3300 years of existence. Where are the Assyrians today?

2) Contributed most of its moral and ethical code to what became Western Civilization. In fact, other than the Greeks, the way we think and act today probably comes the most from the Hebrews, for better or worse (including everything from weekends to social taboos on homosexuality).

3) Achieved a large amount that they still don't get full credit for, such as their likely role in developing the alphabet. Note that, while the Greek letters "alpha" and "beta" are meaningless, the Hebrew letters "aleph" and "bet" are actually words in themselves ("aleph" means ox, "bet" means house) -- suggesting that the Greeks borrowed their alphabet, including the what they call letters, from ancient Hebrew or proto-Hebrew.

Incidentally, I'd be rather upset if Byzantium is in the game because doing so would be incredibly historically ignorant. Byzantium was PART of Roman civilization. In fact, throughout their entire history, the people we call the Byzantines called themselves "Romans" and their empire "the Roman Empire." Their law was Roman. They controlled large portions of what the classical Roman empire did (including large chunks of Italy). The empire used Latin until the 7th Century (but a change of language hardly suggests a change of civilization). And, to the extent that the empire was NOT part of Roman civilization, it was Greek.

Similarly, while Austria-Hungary had an Empire, Austria and Germany are fundamentally part of the same civilization: German. They share the same language, culture, religions etc.
