Introduction
Shortly after The Phoenix Queen and her people were released from their archive, they fell prey to vicious and unrelenting attacks by the exotic wildlife of the jungles which surrounded them.
The continued assaults eventually forced the elves to take drastic measures to ensure their survival, forcing their own children to take up arms to defend themselves alongside the soldiery. Spending eight years like this, the elves slowly and painfully learned to master the harsh jungles and how to move unseen under the cover of darkness to avoid direct confrontation with nature's beastly entities.
However, their civilization's ills were not only from their surroundings, but also from a mysterious mist which followed them wherever they settled. This cursed Shadowmist plague made drastic changes to their kind. Not only did it impair their vision, but it changed their physique. Their skin blackened and their minds were haunted by disorienting illusions. At first, this change led to a great depression among their kind, as many regarded the mist as a terrible curse which had degraded them and a sign of imminent doom. This also lead to them naming themselves the Twilight Elves of the Shadowmist Empire, and eventually growing a burning hatred towards their elf cousins.
The elves of the empire now spend every waking moment of their lives disciplining their minds to ward off the false visions, and honing their bodies for combat so that all of their kind may defend themselves from their land's predatory wildlife.
The Phoenix Queen quickly realized that in this world you require power and the tempered mind to make proper use of it. No gods will ever help anyone nor care for their desperate call for them. In this world the strong stand upon the top and rules above the weak. It was as simple as that. This cultural code is spread wide across the empire, officially named The Children of Twilight.
