The Citynamemanager-development thread

I just changed Nova Aurelianum to Nova Aurelia (like in the Latin Wikipedia).

Also, I fixed some Spanish city names for France:

- Lisboa = Lisbonne
- Zaragoza = Saragosse
- Sevilla = Séville
- Santiago = Saint-Jacques

Some where already in the rename-lists, like Lisbonne, but were still Spanish in the city-founding map of France.

The file is (now in a RAR-file) on the first thread.

Latin wiki, which is not done by native speakers, is full of mistakes. Aurelia Nova is much closer to original latin during roman times than stupid medieval dialect.

Maybe this is, because they are not many of them. I can only think of Cicero, the Ghost, Seneca, the Ghost, Julius Caesar, the Ghost, and Nero burning Rome.

Usi, using your Japan-modifications I stumbled upon a strange bug:

I conquered Lasa as Japan and after a few turns the name changes to "-1".
I changed it back to Lasa and some turns later the name is again changed to "-1".

The era was still the same (medieval) and it was in the 600 AD start.

Fixed and tested!:D
But the file cannot fix city names which have already went wrong. Sorry!

I forgot to include the changes in the third update (e.g., Lisboa -> Lisbonne).
I'll be uploading the new one shotrly.

OK, now that the file is fully up-to-date, and the problem has been fixed.
Also I changed "Séville" to "S & # 2 3 3 ; ville" (without spaces) to avoid encoding issues.

BTW, I have a question.
Do you guys mind if a city's name changed to another city's?
For example, Cao Cao made Xuchang as his capital, which is now a city right next to Kaifeng, and it is impossible to have both Xuchang and Kaifeng in the game due to geological proximity.
Before and after that time, Kaifeng has been more important, so there should be Kaifeng (or Qifeng in past) on the plot in other times. However, at that time, Xuchang was one of the greatest cities in the world, while Kaifeng was not.
So, personally I would like to name this city Xuchang only during the medieval era, where I would like to use city names for the Three Kingdoms period.

This is completely OT, but here's an idea for a mod-mod I had recently:

Spoiler :
CivIV only allows for a few cities in one geographical location, technically no city can have less than 9 tiles of their own. This problem is even worse in RFC, since its basically a world history simulator. So unless ancient cities are razed by warfare, new historical cities will never appear. Like building the historical city of Magdeburg prevents Berlin from being founded later. Those two locations are only one tile away from each-other on the map, so both can't exist in the same game. Unless...

What if cities, especially capital cities, could migrate? So that if Magdeburg is built before German unification, but would then be replaced by Berlin? Magdeburg would cease to exist as a city (it could turn into a Town instead) - but the new city of Berlin would keep everything in Magdeburg intact. Only the city's name and location would change - culture, buildings/wonders, settled great people and so on would still be there. So the template for Berlin would be Magdeburg, if you like.

There could be a pop-up prompting the human player to choose whether or not to found the historical capital and remove the old city. (It could in fact be located on the same tile, but instead of just renaming the old city, it would be razed and the new one spawned on the same tile). Sure, the new city might initially have less populations or the like, but there could be some other benefit - like extra happiness for a period of time or why not a free Golden Age to kick-off the celebrations? :king:

Thoughts, ideas?

I wouldn't mind if the two cities are located within the same tile. I mean, the 1-tile island in the Caribean each represent dozens of different islands. How much real land is 1 tile in China? 1000 km2?

On one tile the Spanish would found Grenada, the Portuguese would found Barbados and the French would found Martinique, which are 3 different cities on 3 different islands.

Wouldn't it give a stability hit to lose your current capital?
I was talking about modding, so you could make up your own rules. Obviously you would fix that or compensate for it. But you're right on the issue and there would of course be a lot to consider if anyone was to attempt something along these lines.

I updated the thread to Usi's version #4.

BTW, Baldyr, what is that long stiff thing in front of your Avatar's face?

You don't make it easy for me to keep thinking your adoration for her is purely innocent... ;)

@nody:

My fiancée doens't believe it either...

I'm pretty sure that's a microphone, Nody what do you think it is

Yes, but I think it's a little suggestive... she really seems to like having it close to her mouth...

...and I also like to tease Baldyr with his Lena-obsession anyway I can... ;)

Maybe she is receiving an award and is happy?

this combined with you asking whether she is over 18 leads me to conclude that you find her attractive and wanted to make sure possessing salacious images of her was not child pornography. This also suggests you wish to fornicated with her and have out of control hormones. Furthermore this suggests you are in your teenage years or your twenties (with my suspicions leaning towards the latter because you made sure she was over 18). Additionally your teasing of Baldyr is seems ineffective so you probably derive pleasure from teasing him. This is neither the time nor the places for such.

Civ king, like Richard Pryor, god rest his soul, would say: "I'm just a horny-ass m*therf*cker..."

But I'll stop bothering all of you with this Lena-crap.

She is the most attractive avatar on this forum, but not the first woman on my 'to do'-list... ;)

BTW, I'm not possesing any Lena-material, let alone nude parts of her...
